Although the building is small and unassuming, the food within is anything but! I swoon over the brisket and seriously wish I could eat it every day. It is moist and flavorful and can stand on its own, but I prefer a light douse of the spicy sauce (which I dont find to be too spicy). The smoked sausage is fantastic as well, it has a great snap to it. I have not tried the pulled pork, but hear great things! If you like greens, give theirs a try. Theyre perfectly tangy. The potato salad is the star of the sides though. It is minimalist, but what goes in works so well together. I think it is a sour cream base (?) and potatoes and then topped with green onions. Definitely try it if you are any fan of potatoes! My go-to dish is the 2 meat tray with brisket and smoked sausage and 2 potato salads. Do not let the parking bother you! It is on a street corner with only a few spots in front of the building but lots of parking in the surrounding area. Or, let the parking bother you and leave me with a shorter line ;)

Stop whatever it is you are doing and go to Blue Door Smokehouse right now! This place not only looks and feels like a legit BBQ joint, but follows through with a spectacular display of BBQ perfection. Now, I know everyone has their own style of BBQ that they like. But, Blue Door Smokehouse will surprise and satisfy any BBQ fan. The guys and gals behind Blue Door Smokehouse are some of the most honest and hard working guys you will ever meet. Last but not by any means least, the menu offers a good variety of BBQ items and sides that will amaze and satisfy anyone that walks in. This is by far my favorite place to go in Lexington and Im always telling everyone I know about it. Again, stop what youre doing right now and GO to Blue Door Smokehouse!!!! Also, as of today, Bluedoor Smokehouse is still open and have acknowledged that they have been erroneously marked as permanently closed. Rest assured BBQ fans, Bluedoor is still open for business and are here to stay.

So I looked up best bbq around lexington KY cause I would be visiting from out of state. Blue door and Red state both were mentioned so I made it a point to see which is better. Went to Blue door first and got the brisket, chx, greens and beans. The sides were GREAT, the beans you can definitely tell are homemade, the chx was okay, a little dry but not bad. But the brisket, ohhhh that brisket! Moist and pulled apart like butter. This is by far the best Bbq Ive ever had, portions huge and very reasonable pricing. Went to red state this morning, doesnt compare, higher prices, smaller portions. The sides are good but the chx and brisket were very dry. The only good thing that stood out was the sauces, they had a wide variety of flavors. But when I go looking for excellent bbq, its not for the sauces, its for the meat! Great job blue door!

Yes, quite possibly the best brisket youve ever had. What we tried: - Brisket Sandwich - Brisket Plate - Ranch Beans - Vinegar Slaw - Potato Salad The brisket is simply amazing, so much so I ordered a second brisket sandwich and it was even better than the first. The sauces are perfect. The sides were great, especially the vinegar slaw. We arrived at 11:15 on a Wednesday morning and the place was full/overflowing by 11:30 - and everyone was ordering brisket. I imagine theyre sold out by 12:30, so get there early; were sure glad we did! There are no frills here. Just real. good. simple. food.

Excellent BBQ. Everything is good. Their pulled pork is nice, brisket is tasty and ribs are fall off the bone. Only complain is bring is some potatoes. They dont have any potato option, mashed, fries, nothing. Please add this. Also, if i have a combined order (for wife and mine), and one of the orders is without slaw, please dont put my meat in the pick up container with the slaw on my wife order. If i dont want something on my order, i do not want my food sitting on top of the other orders food that i dont want. Good food though if you are looking for some good bbq.

A true hole-in-the-wall BBQ joint. 7 (2-person) tables and 3 counter seats...thats it! Most people take it to go because they cant sit down. The smell inside is cue heaven. I got the Blue Door Special which is a sampling of ALL their meats... yum. The only reason they got a 4 out of 5 stars from me...The extra rub on top of all of the pulled meats. When smoked on the meats, it is delightful, but its unnecessary and unbalanced in its flavors when heaped atop the servings of meat. They need to let the meat speak for itself.

I had to see what all the hype was all about, and let me tell you that Blue Door Smokehouse greatly exceeded my expectations and the rest of my parties as well. Their brisket is amazing, easy chew and pull. A great smoke ring and flavor. The pulled pork really wowed me, the seasoning was out of this world. The pork was also done almost perfectly. The beans are really good and both slaws are done well. I would go out of my way just to get some BDS, a must try at least several times.

Tried the brisket platter with potato salad and ranch beans. Fantastic! I used to travel and work all over Texas, and I can say the brisket here is authentic. It is better than a lot of the places I would frequent in Texas. I am not sure how good the other meats are, but looking at other customers plates I noticed all were presented very nicely. For a bbq joint, they know how to plate food well and make it feel like a real fine-dining meal.

This place has amazing Texas style BBQ. The brisket is about as good as most Texas staples like Rudys, Salt Lick, and even Franklin BBQ, and definitely the best BBQ in Lexington. The sides are amazing too, the collard greens and potato salad are my favorite. They also have desert that is made by a local bakery. The building is pretty small, so if you plan on bringing a large party you might have to wait a while. Keep up the great work!

I could tell you about how I dream about this barbecue since Ive moved out of state. I could tell you about how this restaurant is a part of my routine pilgrimages back to Kentucky. I could tell you that I once ate a Blue Door Special and a Polish sausage in one sitting and felt like I could die happy. Instead, I will tell you that you owe it to yourself to have the best barbecue youre going to have in your life.

I go here every time Im in Lex. Coming from Texas its unusual to find good brisket outside the state, but these guys do it right. They dont overlook the sides either. My go tos are the potato salad and collared greens. Cool "dive restaurant" atmosphere with limited seating, but if you can get a seat its definitely worth it.

Didnt find another smoke house because it was so good. Came in later on a Tuesday (2:00pm) and they were already out of both their shredded chicken/turkey, and sliced brisket, but they still had chopped brisket. Friendly service and good bbq, coming from a northwesterner, so take it for what you will.
