I like hibachi restaurants in general so I have visited many, in multiple cities and states. Sumo is hands down the best to date! I have seen better "showmanship" at other hibachi places but these guys have some skills. Personally, Im in it for the food. Sumos fried rice...No one has even comes close to this deliciousness. Worth the trip just by itself! The filet mignon may just be the best you have ever had. Full of flavor and as smooth as butter. You wont find steak this good at your neighborhood chain steakhouse. Its not exactly cheap but its well worth the visit when you feel like you deserve a special treat, or you want to treat someone else. Ladies...try the "Madame Butterfly". Its a Sumo original and sort of a hidden local treasure if you enjoy a good cocktail. P.S. If your chef comes out with his knives in a gun belt...prepare yourself for an especially good meal.

The staff was very friendly, but this restaurant is simply not up to par with any other Japanese restaurant in which I have ever dined. The first problem, albeit small, was that they did not have green tea - a staple of Japanese dining. Our other issues with the meal included quality of ingredients (including providing cheap chicken thighs for a hibachi meal) and overcooking of food (including burning both the shrimp and steak). Again, the staff was friendly and the cook was entertaining, but the quality of food was more on par with mall Chinese while you are expected to pay teppanyaki prices. Given the other reviews, maybe we caught them on an off day where they had to run and grab whatever the local market had, but it was still unacceptable. If you have dined at restaurants like Nakato, Mo Mo Ya, August Moon - now closed :(, or even Benihana, youll likely be disappointed.

Even though its been a few years, I went on a date, 2 people sitting with an entire family of strangers with very loud, obnoxious kids, there wasnt much on the menu I wanted, I settled with fried rice with meat added for my meal. Somehow it gets distributed to the entire table? WHY? I shouldnt be paying for random strangers to eat when I buy an item at a restaurant. They are entirely capable of ordering their own food and not eating my already upcharged rice. Ive been to a few hibachi places and had a few good visits at other places but I really dont enjoy that style of entertainment cooking and sitting with random people. After this memorably annoying experience I havent returned to one.

There are no words to describe this RUN DOWN AWFUL SERVICE place. I knew it was bad years ago but got drug there for a b-day. They didnt even do anything for my friends birthday after they were told. No cooking "show" it was plain cooking in front of us and gave a "service charge" for 3!!! people. Needless to say didnt tip extra. Chicken was awful. Wasnt chicken breasts used and rice was half done. Rushed crappy service! Did I mention no one was there? Ghost restaurant on Thursday night. Oh yeah, bad health score too!! Go to Tokyo in Cartersville or Blue fin in Rome. Worth drive or not having "show"!

Sumo brings several key elements to the table when it comes to dining out in Rome. First, lets start with a location with a view. Sumos deck is a monster. The waiting area is very nice, but who would wait there when you can head upstairs to the "lounge". Wow. Karaoke is still alive here. Also, a nice sitting area with leather furniture, darts, pool tables, etc. The food is really good. They work the crowd with the razzle dazzle tricks too. Have I mentioned the sushi bar? This place is huge (literally). Its a destination all of its own. When it comes to Japanese, its Sumo that you want.

Its been a few years since weve dined here and it has been a big disappointment. Service was okay and they had surprises for our birthday boy but the food quality was subpar. My steak, ordered medium-rare was well-done, the shrimp and scallops were rubbery and over-cooked... Im not convinced that the scallops were real... More like pressed stingray. Back to Bluefin from this point on! Premier hibachi prices with the quality of Hibachi Express.

I went to Sumo for a friends birthday. It was going great. The food was wonderful, the chef entertaining...until in response to the request he make a smiley face or a palm tree or something he said "Ill make you a machine gun" and decided to shape the rice in the form of male genitalia. And lets not forget the white "YumYum" sauce he dribbled at the end. Wow. Absolutely astounding obscenity right there on the dinner table.

MUST GO!!!! I went to Sumo with few friends for dinner. The food was great and staff was amazing!. I went to lots different Japanese hibachi restaurant but this one is amazing and one of kind. The Lounge upstairs is huge and Deck is Big and beautiful view. Its on top of the hill and look over the whole city. wow!! What a view!! If you ever in Rome you must visit Sumo for dinner and Lounge.

Great food and even better service. My wife and I went their tonight for our anniversary because she has fond memories of Sumo from her childhood. The food was flavorful and service was excellent. I was hesitant because Id seen some negative reviews, and the restaurant decor feels dated, but it was the best food Ive ever had at a Japanese steak house. Cant wait to go back!

1. It smells bad. 2. The "chef" wasnt funny. 3. I ordered hibachi vegetables and a water. My bill was $17.02. When I told the waiter I didnt get $17.02 worth of food, he said there was nothing he could do. There are much more exciting and enjoyable Japanese places in Rome. Go to RuSans or Blue Fin instead.
