The outside of the Taj Restaurant, located at a strip mall, can be very deceiving. The outside lot is usually empty except on weekends/nights. So just park and walk in... The Taj Restaurant is a little gem of a restaurant that serves authentic cuisine from India. Please note, AUTHENTIC. It is a very casual atmosphere, low light, and has a lot of Indian/Hindu iconography. The table are simple. One could even say that it has a cafeteria-esque feel layout and feel. I have always found that the sign of delicious, authentic foods are always if "ethnic locals," i.e. Indians to Indian Foods, eat at the restaurant. It is what first drew me there. The servers and manager are very courteous and seem to enjoy explaining what is on the menu. I, for one, am not from India and it was nice having someone point in the right direction. Note that if you dont like crowds then you dont want to go over the weekend as it will become very packed inside (another sign of great foods!). Whenever Ive visited it was either very sparce (2 - 3 tables) or the opposite, a full house. definitely RECOMMEND (esp. if you like foods from India). Enjoy!

Superior Indian cuisine, with a lot of local Indian patronage. All the food we ordered was fresh and well-prepared. I ordered the Handi Goat and the server informed me that the goat was not going to be ready in a reasonable time and offered to substitute lamb instead. The resulting dish was flavorful and a great first example (to me) of the cuisine of Kashmir. A warning--what you think of as "medium" would need to be "mild" in this restaurant. I can handle some pretty hot food, but this medium was more like my definition of "hot." (Statement of fact, not an indictment. One doesnt know until one tries.) The restaurant, contrary to several maps purporting to show the location, is actually on the south side of US80. (Its on the same side as the Wal-Mart.) How this restaurant came to inhabit this location on Earth I cant imagine, but the people of Macon are blessed to have it. It easily competes with higher-priced Indian venues in larger metropolitan areas. Highly recommended.

My family and I came here after we googled the best Indian restaurants in Macon, GA. The food was mediocre but the waiter was extremely rude towards us. In the time we sat and waited to give our order, another family had came in, placed their order and received their food. The waiter was constantly chewing tobacco and never smiled once. He had a frown the entire time. When we got up to go to the restroom after dinner, we saw the male employee using the womens restroom. After the restroom when we were walking back to our table, we over heard him talking about us and calling us names since we asked how long we will have to wait to order and receive our food. We have been to many Indian restaurants before and never come across one with such rude employees. I would never come back and I would never recommend this place to anyone. Terrible service and attitude.

One of the worst indian restaurants I have ever visited. Went there on June, 15th, 2013 for second time in three years to see if their food & service has improved or not. Itz still the same! The buffet was aweful. They had prepared an "egg curry" from 1 day old leftover chicken curry. We could find some chicken pieces in the curry. When asked to the (half bald headed) rude owner/staff, he arrogantly said, "Yes, I know, I will change the name to chicken curry". No sorry, no regrets. I normally pardon the taste/food related issues if the staff is friendly and polite. But if stale/leftover food is served, staff is arrogant, I would rather go to some other restaurant. I would like to say sorry to all the people who tried their desert called "Kheer". Please note, this is NOT authentic Indian food at all.

This place is like a complete package. Great food with wonderful service at very good price. You can not expect more than this. We did not get this quality of food and service in metros like Atlanta, Dallas etc. It feels like the owner is very happy with what they are doing. It is very good and you will eat more. Definitely they do not show any signs like "Chor" like most of Indian Restaurants in US. Their Paneer dishes are the best. We have been here only once and If we are passing through this place, we will eat here everytime. My regards to owner and staff for having and making this place such a great place. I salute you all and wish your business flourishes everyday so that in future also we have previllage to eat at this place.

I called yesterday for a pick up order. I ordered the Bhaigan Bharta and Vegetables Jalfrezi. So disgusting that I had to throw it all out. The Bhaigan Bharta had yogurt or some kind of dairy in it and there is zero mention of that on the menu, also I have ordered it in person and it did not have dairy - I guess they just throw in whatever they want. The vegetables were literally a bag of frozen vegetables from the grocery store swimming in curry sauce. I know exactly what type of "vegetable medley" they used because I have it in my freezer. Tasteless, freezer-burnt, zero effort. TINY portions. Inedible. $23 in the trash. I will never visit this establishment again.

Cant even begin to explain how terrible this place is. Server had disgusting attitude from the minute we entered. He was chewing tobacco the entire time while serving us. I am surprised this restaurant is still open. I would advice no one to go here. Food was not bad but the service was not worth it. Dishes and silverware were disgusting. We had a big group and got served papad for less that half. We got a ridiculous amount of attitude for asking when the food will be done as we had been waiting for a long time. He also spoke negatively about us to other customers WHILE WE WERE SITTING THERE. Never again and I advise the same for anyone considering it

Taj Indian Restaurant was my fourth experience with Indian cuisine and it was a pleasurable one. We arrived in time for the lunch buffet on a Saturday. The buffet had a nice selection with approximately 30 options to choose from. The food was very tasty. Sometimes food temperatures can be "off" at buffets, but not here. The hot food was hot and the cold food was cold. The service was attentive, friendly, and ready with suggestions on how to combine the spices for optimum flavor, I found this to be most helpful. When we are back in Macon, we will be certain to re-visit Taj, just writing this review is making me crave their delicious Naan bread.

I would never recommend this place to anyone for dinner, don’t know why/how it has four & 1/2 stars to begin with, terrible service and food was even worst. Only one waiter who was mostly occupied to serve a table that was filled with his family members. Vegetables Manchurian had Indo-Chinese flavor instead tasted like Gujarati Bhajiya/Gota. What a fraudulent way to fool customers! In the main course: Paneer Tikka Masala and Kaju Masala were equally bad, had sour taste that were very unorthodox for such dishes. Paneer and Kaju were non-existing, could easily have counted. I will never visit this place again.
