In my opinion, BBQ sauce is one of the most important parts to a BBQ joint. At Lovies, there is only one choice: runny, sweetish, reddish vinegar sauce. If youre into that sort of thing, its great, but I prefer thicker, smokier BBQ sauce. The chicken was seasoned quite well, but it was unfortunately dry, thereby forcing me to use the excessively vinegary sauce to cover up what would have been a wonderfully herby, smokey flavor. The Brunswick Stew was very ketchup-y and lacked body. (Im a harsh judge of Brunswick, since its my favorite.) The cornbread was inedible to me: dense and dry and a bit stale. The fried okra was on par-- not at all bad, though not exquisite. It was probably my favorite thing. I enjoyed the peach cobbler, though I wouldnt say its one of the best Ive ever had. The bread had soaked into the sauce so much that they were no longer discernable from each other, which cut down and thickened the overly sweet syrup, but also removed any chance of a delicious crust. It was closer to Stew than the Brunswick was, but all the right flavors were there. In my opinion, I found Lovies to be less of an exquisite gem of southern BBQ delight, and more a reminder of all those cafeteria and mass-produced church luncheons gone by... Most of the food is sub-par, though there are a few good cooks contributing, but its the only thing there, so you have to at least appreciate the fact that its edible. I guess, in that way, it kind of is an authentic Southern experience.

Quick and friendly service in a casual environment. The food is decent, but nothing really stands out for me other than some of their sides: sweet potato fries, Brussels sprouts, baked beans, green beans, and coleslaw. Of the meats, I would recommend the brisket and pulled chicken. Order the plates as they come with 2 sides and include a generous piece of cornbread and a pickle. They only offer one house BBQ sauce, which is a little on the weaker side in regards to flavor and heat, but there are plenty of hot sauces available to help with both. Overall youll get a decent meal and the prices are not bad. Easy parking and never crowded when Ive gone for Sunday lunch.

Maybe they were having an off night, but my ribs were warm temperature, almost cool. The BBQ sauce was watery and nothing to shout about in terms of flavor. I had mac-n-cheese and their homemade potato chips for my sides...bland. I really expected better and really should have told them at least re-heat my ribs, but $@#^ I was tired and hungry! So, Ill admit that I finished my plate but probably wont go back. Staff was real cool, though, and the place has a chill, unpretentious vibe that I like, plus they were playing old school Police and U2, which was a pleasant surprise. So, 2 stars for the food, 3 stars for the place.

Came here for breakfast for the first time and the staff was so friendly and helpful. We got the breakfast platter a bowl of Brunswick Stew a brisket biscuit sandwich and some cheesy grits... My God it was phenomenal. Its the best Brunswick stew Ive had in Atlanta. The brisket... A smoky deliciousness every bite and the pulled pork was so tender and amazing. The biscuits had that homemade feel... Overall it was amazing. Edit: We had to order the peach cobbler.... It was out of this world!!! We definitely recommend this place. The staff gives you that good ol southern hospitality

Stopped by this place after being stopped at the traffic light and seeing it. Was a little leery at first after walking in and seeing only 2 people in the restaurant. Decided to give it a try and boy was it really good! I had the BBQ quesadillas with collards and bbq baked beans. The quesadilla was loaded with chicken and was delicious. Only negative was the salsa. It was really bland. The collards tasted just like homemade and the bbq baked beans were just the right combination of sweetness and smoky flavor with the brisket mixed in....outstanding!!

I will definitely dine there again, however I wont order brisket. Admittedly, Lovies was at a disadvantage from the start because I typically dont like brisket. I tried it because a friend insisted that I would enjoy it. Lovies was better than the others Ive tried before. That notwithstanding, the sides were excellent. And the pickles!! OMG, the best ever! I know...pickles, really? They were outrageously delicious! They pickle the cucumbers in house!

I was excited to try this place as I live in the area but was very disappointed. The brisket was 90% fat and my entire meal appeared to be old as if it had been sitting around all day. I ordered another pulled chicken sandwich for a friend who was equally dissatisfied. This was my first visit and my last. They really need to do better. I will say this was a to go order and it is typical for eat in orders to be better either way it was unacceptable food.

Warm and friendly people. Great food. I had the pulled pork plate with macaroni & cheese and the flash-fried brussel sprouts. They were delicious - tender in the middle and tasty on the outside too. The cornbread was a bonus! I was also fond of the the sauce on the pork - the variation of textures from the outside of the pork to the soft, smooth meat from near the bone. Kudos! My compliments to the chef(s). These folks have great taste in music too.

If your a true bbq fan you will be very disappointed BUT considering the type of bbq (venigar no sauce, no you dont understand - there wasnt a single bottle of bbq sauce in the store, unless theyre trying to count reds hot sauce & ketchup) the FOOD WAS GOOD but could hardly qualify as bbq. I had a pulled pork sandwich & it was very tasty. The staff was incredibly helpful. Prices wouldnt sting so much if my sandwich hadnt been so small.

This was my 1st time trying Lovies BBQ, It was pretty good. I had the pulled chicken dinner with 2 sides (okra & mac) both were seasoned to perfection, the chicken was tender! I had it for lunch a few of my co-workers sample it & they like it too, so the office is going to order for catering next week.

Awful. Dont go to Lovies looking for good BBQ, you will not find it there. The sides are awful and so is the ribs and rib tips which taste like vinegar and the sauce that they had on the table taste even more like vinegar. that was the worse tasting food/bbq I ever had. thumbs all the way down.

Food is not freshly made. They microwave the food. Went two hours before closing and ask for ribs. Was given room temp food. I then asked for hot ribs. They put it in microwave. I saw the whole action. The banana pudding taste horrible. I will not be you going again. Wish I could give a zero.

Not my favorite BBQ in Atlanta (Fox Bros, Heirloom, and Das BBQ would be), but they have decent BBQ if you have a hankering for some smokey meat. Very classic, simple offerings as somewhat reasonable offerings... find it a good lunch spot, but would go elsewhere when in mood for good BBQ.

These folks are outstanding as well as their food. We did a catering order for 20 people on short notice (an hour and a half) and it was ready with all the trimmings. Thanks Nat your customer service is outstanding as well as your food. You are now on our company list for catering.
