Okay, I finally have to review the place. I hate giving less than 5-stars to anything that I enjoy. First the good. Hurricane Dockside is a big place with lots of seating. Indoor seating, outdoor seating, and is in a nice accessible location off of 441. Its easy to get to and has a big parking lot. I come here, mostly, for the home made kettle chips. They have a small order of them for $2. They are simply the best chips Ive had and it has kept me coming back. Ill take these over fries, over tater tots, over hashbrowns, over American Fries, over nearly anything potato-related. They are fantastic. Me and my friend usually order 4 or 5 sides of these at $2 apiece and also get them with the food. Next, every meal Ive had here has been delicious. Everything. Great burgers, cooked to order. The food is worth coming for. Ive eaten here 3 times, despite the negative. And its one, singular, negative. Now the negative. VERY, VERY, VERY slow service. Incredibly slow. Excruciating really. Its so slow, and so consistently slow, just check all the reviews, its almost become part of the charm of the place. Thats if youre charmed by slow service. I can see it being slow when its busy. Thatd be fine. But the waitstaff outnumbers the customers each of the 3 times Ive eaten here. I order the chips as an appetizer. I try to make it clear early on that Ill likely be ordering more chip orders after the first and second order. Itll sound like whining, I know, and you may judge as you will. Take all reviews with a grain of salt, here and at yelp and others. But Ill recount my latest visit. And, mind you, this is about the same story from my visit in 2015, and 2016. This is not a one-off encounter. 4 of us. Walk in at 7PM. Not busy. The few that are there are nearly finished eating. We sit down right next to the bar, right next to the greeting station, and right next to other customers that already have their food, because we know, going in, that this place is always slow. So we want to be visible to give us the best chance of getting quicker service. The waitress servicing the tables next to us walks by at least 3 times in the first 15 minutes we sit there. 7:15, my dad walks to the bar, which is right next to our table, and orders a beer and points to where we are and mentions wed like menus. 7:20 our waiter shows up with menus, takes our drink orders, and I try to get him to take our food order also, as others have come in after us, and I dont want to get behind their orders also. No dice. He brings us our drinks, amazingly promptly, and takes our orders about 7:22-7:23. We all order. I mentioned, specifically, that I wanted 2 orders of the chips as an appetizer, and my friend did the same thing. Wed also like the chips instead of fries with the meal. So 4 orders of chips, early, theres 4 of us you see, and then chips with the meal. And thats that. We sit there, without soda refills, without any appetizers, without another beer for my dad who eventually walked back up to the bar, until one of us finally got up, at 7:55, and asked one of the waitresses who seemed to be working, where our appetizers were and if we could get drinks refilled etc. Everything was delivered "promptly" at 8:05. There was only 1 order of chips, instead of the 4 we requested, and paid for, and it was delivered with the rest of the meal. After being there and seated for over an hour, and finally getting our food, we ate quickly, paid quickly because I didnt want to wait around after the meal, I just wanted to leave, and were finally in the car at 8:20. We never got a refill on soda. Paid for 4 orders of the chips, and likely would have bought more if they were delivered in a timely manner before the meal, but only got 1 order. And they were delicious, as always. I dont have time, or the patience, for hour and 20 minute meals, on vacation or otherwise. I cant imagine going back next year. But the chips and food are very good. I just wish the service was better.

Its hard to describe just how badly we were treated. Went there for Mothers Day lunch. When we arrived it actually wasnt that busy. The hostess said it would be a bout a 15 minute wait - by todays standards that sounded just fine (usually expect 30 min especially on a special day) We gladly put in our name - I asked the hostess if she would just holler when our table was ready? She said, "oh yeah well find ya!" with a smile.... (there were a few folks sitting on the benches so we stepped just outside the door where others were waiting and stood patiently at the railing. (this is no more than 20 feet away from the hostess station) I knew she had probably been optimistic about 15 minutes so after about 30 minutes we moved back inside the door that always remained open and waited patiently there for about another 10 minutes. By now the restaurant and waiting areas are getting quite full and folks ARE being seated but not us... Not usually one to do this, I approached the hostess station which now had two young ladies trying to juggle the task. I asked if we were getting close and they very rudely replied, "we couldnt find you"! I very calmly pointed out the only two places we had been, both of which were only feet away and in clear view of the station. Both young ladies indicated that what I was telling them about our whereabouts was untrue. Disappointed but exercising the last bit of patience we had we accepted a table that they offered at that time. We sat at that table and were completely ignored for the following twenty minutes. Completely disgusted we finally gave up and left. Reading what appears to be a pattern about their poor service, Im at least grateful that it only cost us time since the food reviews dont appear to be any better. This is a real shame! Its a nice piece of real estate that should have a nice restaurant. Skip The Hurricane Dockside Grill!!! Perhaps they will go under and someone will come along that knows how to do it!

Visited hurricanes as part of a large poker run group on Sunday 9/8/13 around 3 P.M. We had to find our own table, with many of them dirty and not cleaned off. We waited 15-20 minutes before being acknowledged by any employee, given a menu or had drink orders taken. Waitress who was wearing a bears jersey, having no uniform of any kind, never introduced herself and but did take our order. Drinks sat empty for 20-25 minutes until the server finally brought 2 of us drinks and never took the myriad of empty glasses away with her. Burger ordered medium well was completely pink inside and would be classified as medium rare at best. Pulled pork quesadillas were chunks or fatty pork, nothing pulled about them. We wanted to order an appetizer after this but the waitress never came back to the table and was no where to be found. Finally she reappeared at the outside bar and after waiting 30 minutes we had to go up to bar to get our checks so we could pay. This is when the servers attitude flew off the handle. At this point she was completely rude sliding our checks toward us and slamming them down on the bar. Afterwards I spoke to the manager but she did not seem very concerned although offered to comp our meals however we already paid and were not looking for free food just service. The hideaway which is only a short distance away via water had great food and great service and is recommended over Hurricanes.
