I dont actually dislike this joint... Id give it a 3 star except Its just soooo over rated and absolutely needs to be brought down a peg or 2. Its basically an Applebees/Chilis/TGI Fridays in disguise, with a much larger menu. They deserve credit for having a great deal of vegan/vegetarian options. They deserve to have credit taken away for the absurdly weak and over priced bar/liquor drinks and the absurdly over priced food. Most of the sandwiches are almost $15, and they all have cute clever names and theres a lot of selection beyond the usual hamburger (eggplant, meatloaf, chicken parm etc) but they are 80% bread. The sandwiches are enormous but its all.. Bread. Over a 1/4 loaf of bread in every sandwich. If youre a bread lover... I guess thats great. My last stop there I sat at the bar and had an appetizer, 3 domestic beers, and a sandwich; my bill was $54 before tip. Sorry but thats insane. The bartenders kinda suck at their jobs too... They were nice enough, but one of em mixed me a bloody Mary that had no alcohol and half a jar of horseradish in it. Politely informed her of my thoughts on this undrinkable Virgin bloody Mary and she nodded, walked away... and charged me full price. No offer of something different. Lame. To summarize, this is a pretty cool casual restaurant with a lot of American style fare, as diverse as American food can be, that gets absurdly over rated by fake locals (people from say, Parma or Mentor that claim Cleveland as their city) and is way too expensive. Go to a chain restaurant and get basically the same thing with a less cute name for considerably less money.

Traveling around 3 hours is never a fun experience and with some of the reviews we read on Google about Melt Bar and Grilled... we almost didnt go because we were pressed for time on our way to see the Indians play the Yankees on July 9. Wow... am I GLAD that we ignored the negativity and went to the restaurant. The seats were about 75% full when we arrived, were seated IMMEDIATELY, greeted pleasantly and IMMEDIATELY by a lovely young lady named Sam. It was about shift change so we were turned over to a strapping young lad who was EQUALLY helpful and pleasant. My wife and I ordered one of the 36 drafts beers on site and our sandwiches within 5 minutes of entry to the establishment. We were close enough to the kitchen that we could WATCH the sandwich creators (not just kitchen staff... these guys were GOOD!). I will admit that the delivery of the food was not "fast food-esque" and yet the funny décor and big screen TVs kept us entertained as did the preparers of the food. THEY were great to watch! Our food arrived (a Buffalo Chicken and a Godmother) and the sheer SIZE of them amazed us! From first bite to a "fully glutted" last... we enjoyed the craftsmanship of the kitchen AND were well taken care of by our servers. Simply cannot figure out why ANYONE would have issue with this restaurant. MELT...you guys ROCK and just keep on doing what you are doing because it is SIMPLY...RIGHT! Thanks for a GREAT experience...AND we made it to the game ON TIME! :-) Submitted by Michael Dotson

As much as I love the food here, last nights experience was horrible. 45 minute wait for a table, OK fine (even though it took an hour) then once we were finally seated I asked about the air being broken because it was ridiculously hot in there and we were informed that the corporate office did not allow them to change the thermostat. I saw quite a few people just leave without getting their table because it was so hot in there. The workers were definitely suffering and a few had to keep stepping outside because it was making them sick. Then once we ordered we were informed it would be another 45 minutes just to receive our food. Was the kitchen staff passed out on the floor from the heat? We had to go outside and cool off as well as it was making us both nauseous. Neither one of us can deal with extremely hot temperatures well. Once we finally got our food we only ate a small portion before we just had to leave. Unfortunately my husband ended up getting sick in the bathroom because of the heat. Our waiter was good but your corporate policy is inhumane. While they are all sitting in their air conditioned office, their employees and customers (who pay their paychecks) are suffering. Do they not live in Ohio and understand the weather here? It was 70 degrees out and the heat was on!! Shame on this company. I will never come here again and will definitely be sharing my experience.

Rather disappointed.... We had heard some pretty good things about this place but after visiting we were really disappointed in the management. Our food was decent but nothing to write home about. We got fried green tomatoes, you couldnt even taste the tomato just the crunch and when our main course came out the food runner dumped a large cup of ranch onto my husbands lap and my daughters leg. We understand accidents like that happen because we worked in the food service industry and in management in the food service industry, so we didnt throw a huge fit. What we were disappointed about was the manager didnt even come to the table to ask us if we were OK and they didnt even discount anything on the check which isnt what we were looking for we more or less wanted the manager to even acknowledge the fact that there was a issue at our table but that never happened. also took a long time to get something to clean up the spill even if they were a little busy you would think that it wouldve been a little faster considering my husband couldnt put his feet down and less he stepped in ranc. I dont believe we will be returning after this issue that weve had

Let me preface this by saying: I LOVE grilled cheese. And I have some very strong opinions on what constitutes such a sandwich. So, I finally had the opportunity to go to "Melt," the hottest new "grilled-cheese" restaurant in town. I must say, that given my expectations, I was sorely disappointed. While delicious, it was not grilled cheese. To be a grilled cheese sandwich, the CHEESE must be the center of the sandwich! The bread should fade into the background, and any additions to the sandwich should serve only to enhance the CHEESE. I do not think that Melt specializes in "grilled cheese." They specialize in gourmet sandwiches with delicious bread that all happen to have cheese as one of the ingredients. The bread is thick and crispy/toasty/fried- absolutely delightful! - but it distracted from the cheese. For example, my sandwich was composed of about an inch of meat/sauce/veggies, and exactly 2 extremely thin pieces of smoked gouda, which I would not consider melted, one on each end of the sandwich. A very delightful sandwich. But not somewhere that I will go again when I am looking for a GRILLED CHEESE sandwich.

Wow - at least 2-3 reviews from people whove never eaten there! One guy (Buddah) who saw other reviews and just posted an extra 1-star? Geez. Yes - theres a line. No, they dont take reservations. Which means - theres a wait. Its also a place featured on FoodNetwork, and is considered a premier place to grab chow. What do you expect? If it was dead, thered be no wait - but there would also be no restaurant! Ive eaten at the bar just about every time without a problem or much of a wait. The staff is friendly and the service (and beer selection) is good. As far as the food goes, its moderately priced - low teens for a monster sandwich (easily 2 meals) and fries. Which is about what most people spend on a run out to lunch at Panera if you get a combo. Its also prety good! Well-salted, good mixes of flavors. Some of the individual meats may be bland on their own. But thats why its paired with the specific veggies, cheese, compotes, au jus, etc. Go there, try it, expect to wait, grab a beer while youre hanging out. Keep an eye out for a bar spot to open up. Rinse, repeat every time you go.
