First Id like to preface my review by stating that SSC would have received a 5 star rating from me on food alone had the service not been so poor. I wanted to dock more stars because of how bad our experience was yesterday but the food was so good, I wouldnt feel right doing it. A local business told us a week in advance they wanted to bring us lunch yesterday from SSC for a meeting we were having at the office. We picked out what we wanted, called it in, and the representative went to pick it up. This unfortunately fell on a time when a hurricane was hitting. That being said, SSC was quite empty as the roads were pretty dangerous and rainfall was heavy, so this wasnt a particularly hectic time for the staff. The rep arrived, paid over $100 for the 4 of us and asked the person handing off his food to make sure it was correct. They insisted it was. When our food arrived, they had handed him half of our order, and half of someone elses. We understand accidents happen, but he had specifically asked for it to be double checked. He then had to turn around, in a hurricane, and drive back from Killearn to retrieve the rest of our order, which is really embarrassing and awkward for both him and us. Again, it was blowing sideways rain and flooding all over the panhandle. Trees were down over his ideal route back and it was a long and arduous trip back. After going back into SSC, soaked, missing his meeting, but still very polite, they gave us the rest of our order and instead of offering some kind of compensation for the ridiculous episode he had to endure, they told us we could keep the two sandwiches that belonged to someone else they had mistakenly given us. Im not one to expect something free for a little mix up, but it what this guy had to go through during a dangerous storm because someone failed to check and double check, they should have offered him something as an apology. It definitely left a sour taste in my mouth as a first impression and if this was something the management or owners oversaw, it is unforgivable. That being said, the shrimp and grits, seafood platter, mahi with crab, and oysters were phenomenal. Such good food. But at this price, if the service is going to remain unpolished and spotty, Id just assume drive to the coast. Worth a second shot for the amazing food, but not a third if something like this happens again.

STAY AWAY! This restaurant recently opened in Tallahassee and Im sorry to say that my first visit will be my last. When we walked through the door, no one was there to greet us for several awkward minutes and this was at 7 pm. When the hostess finally walked up, she never smiled, just said "2"? She told us there was a 15 min wait and handed us a menu, explaining how only half the items listed were actually available to order. When we got to our table it was dark and depressing. We asked to move outside to escape the funeral home atmosphere. Our server was nice, but it seemed like her first serving job, asking me if I wanted my jack and coke mixed or separate...? Really? We waited 35 minutes for fried shrimp and a burger, cooked medium. When we finally got our food, the burger was well done and flavorless and the shrimp were smothered in batter--way too much to even enjoy them. To make it worse, the batter didnt even taste good: very salty and had an overpowering weird fishy taste. We told the manager that we werent happy with our experience and he told us he would take care of us. He only took off the burger ($8). I had to ask TWICE more before he would compensate us for the ticket time, taking off $10 more. Its our own fault for moving outside, but by the time we left both of us were COVERED in mosquito bites. Now we are home and we both feel sick to our stomachs. Left us with a bad taste in our mouths, figuratively and literally!

Ive now tried Saltwater Seafood Company twice, and I look forward to returning! The first time I had dinner there, and the redfish was amazing. Today I had lunch with a friend, and we shared the fish tacos and the fish and chips...wow! The food was fabulous and fresh (I LOVE local seafood!), the service was great, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I highly recommend the fish tacos (I got Mahi but you can get shrimp if you prefer) if you are looking for something light and you arent very hungry (there were only 2 instead of 3 like most places). They were among the best fish tacos Ive ever had! Im not sure why they are served with potato chips as it seems an odd side, but it wont reduce my rating. My mum is British and Ive had my share of fish and chips, but the batter at Saltwater Seafood Company is exceptional..the fish was as good if not better than anything I had recently in the UK! The manager Brian was also very attentive and made sure we enjoyed our time there. I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner, and I cant wait to return and try the shrimp and grits next since Ive heard so many great things about them!

My husband and I dined here close to their opening, over a year ago. Food was ok and overpriced, service was rushed and impersonal, and overall our experience left us to not return for about a year. WHAT A TURNAROUND! #1, their happy hour is on point. So many options and $3 drinks! Food was perfectly seasoned, staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about recommendations on the menu. The overall feel of the restaurant was different. There was a nice hum of hustle and bustle, but service and food were timely and fantastic. The highlights were the Charleston (grouper entree), Whole Fried Okra (SO DELICIOUS!), and the General Manager, Danny. He talked to us a bit about the sustainable initiatives they are taking in the restaurant and the overall concept changes. This was a very personal touch and something we hold dear to us, as should all Floridians. More restaurants should move towards conservation of our planets ecosystem through their business practices. It just shows they care about something bigger than themselves. Bravo Saltwater, Bravo! 10/10 would dine again. See you next Friday, Saltwater!

Nice atmosphere, waited at the bar to be seated and had a glass of wine, only to my surprise that the one glass of wine was $9, the same wine at CVS is $9...for the bottle. We were seated at our table which needs cushions, the 2x4 seat to the back is unpleasant. The wait staff was friendly enough but lacked professionalism. The food was excellent but looking at the menu and prices, we almost left. After being at the bar, with one glass of wine and one beer we spent $18. We decided to stay as we both wanted to try the food. We settled with the more reasonably priced grouper sandwich instead of the $21 dinner plate. We wanted to try the $10 carrot cake but opted out of dessert simply due to cost. While the food and atmosphere were very nice we will not be back because of the prices. We can drive to Panama City and have a much more excellent meal for half the price while enjoying a sunset. We realize this is tallahassee not panama but in order to remain successful you need to keep your locals happiest. Bring your prices down.
