Must have been a bad night.... Lets start with the fact that the air barely worked, so I was dripping sweat long before the flavorless lumps of very expensive Vaseline that passed as a premiere dish arrived at my table. But Im getting ahead of myself. Arrived at the bar. 2 bartenders, 1 other customer--9 minutes before someone approached me! The appetizer was huge, and flavorless, conch fritters which took so long to come out I only had choked down one when the "main course" arrived. Full disclosure, I dont negatively review a restaurant based on one bad experience, I wait a WHILE, then go back, so this was my third, hellish, overpriced, massively disappointing excursion to Salty Rim. It really typifies everything wrong with Florida Restaurants: If you have a deck facing the water, and make money on overpriced drinks, your food can be bad enough to cause a starving Ethiopian to seek a stomach pump, and you stay in business. So it is with Salty Rim. The main dish contained four kinds of seafood, each of which tasted like... Hot water. The coconut rice--a foodservice product it was served over-- was the sole redeeming factor, and the only actual flavor detectable in the dish. The vegetables included were the usual flavorless kind you expect in say, a truck stop in Kansas. I packed up the appetizer to go, then realized it was easier to leave it behind than transport it and throw it out at home, so I did. Quick Tip. If you find your family is trapped on St. Pete Beach following a natural disaster, starving, dehydrated, and nearing death, and the Salty Rim is still there and open, draw straws and eat the looser. It will be a MUCH better and more flavorful experience. As well as costing less than your first car. (Please note, the POST feature on this site will not light unless you choose at least one star. Given a choice, I would have gone with No Stars.)

I went in with my family and the restaurant was relatively empty however when we finally sat down it took around 35 minutes just for a waiter to ask us if we wanted drinks, despite the number of waiters lurking around. It felt like we were being avoided and were not welcomed there at all. After ordering 4 drinks, we waited around another 30 minutes for them. At this point my 7 year old brother was getting restless due to the heat and we just wanted our drinks but still had no sign of a waiter. Furthermore we proceeded to leave the restaurant and leave the bill without even ordering food. As a customer I felt forgotten about and there seemed to be a lack of communication between the staff. I hope other customers didnt experience this but I have never received such poor service from such a highly rated restaurant. Such a shame as its in such a lovely location.

My wife and I had the pleasure of hosting our wedding reception on the back deck of The Salty Rim in mid November. We cant say enough how wonderful everything turned out and how accommodating Christina and the staff were to make our day special. The food was excellent, the staff was attentive to all of our needs, and the view were amazing being right on the water. Our guests couldnt stop talking about how great of a time it was and how it was the perfect place to have a party. Many of our guests have since returned and always tell us how much they love the place. Being our wedding, we expected minor glitches throughout the evening, but there were NONE! Best part is..... our cost was very reasonable compared to other local venues. It was perfect! We cant thank the staff of The Salty Rim enough for such a wonderful evening!

My daughter and her companion took me out on Mothers Day and we decided to try this place. We arrived about 2:30 pm and were told menu items were not available until after 4:00 pm but they had a brunch buffet which included chicken, fish and prime rib. We were very disappointed in the food and when the check arrived were shocked. $20 per person and the food was barely warm, the fish was mushy, the scrambled eggs were "hard" and there were no desserts. Non-alcoholic beverages should be included in the price of the buffet but we were charged $4 for a glass of weak iced tea. There were only two other tables of customers and that should have been our first clue. We are permanent residents of St Petersburg and WILL NOT RETURN to this restaurant!

Was here last year and loved it , invited friends to join this year and could not have been more embarrassed. We had to wait forever to even be noticed to get a drink. Food last year was so good and met chief to tell him how great it was. this year the hanger steak that was so loved seemed to be split in two since other person at table also order it, very small portion. The yucca was so under done it was inedible and took up more than half the plate. We told server and the chief agreed totally undercooked...and not even offered anything to offset the horrible plates that were served. And no burgers to be had at all, really???!!! had to apologize to friends all the way home for top dollar for bottom dollar quality.:(

We decided to try the salty rim based on reviews. We tried the fish dip appetizer which was locally caught fish and recommended by our server. It was good! I had the shrimp basket which was delicious, and loaded with shrimp! My husband had a grouper sandwich and the kids ordered from the kids menu. Everyone loved all the food. Our server was awesome (I wish I remembered his name) he was quick to recommend dishes and answer questions. Took our order without even writing it down! He seemed to know a lot about the menu and was very friendly!! Only complaint is the only two servers were busy with several tables so they couldve been a bit more attentive but that is not their faults nonetheless. Worth a stop!!

Great spot. Saw this place while playing at the park next door with our kids, and we needed to grab lunch quick. The place looked a little rough from the park view, but the nice outdoor seating area and close proximity brought us in. The place was much nicer than we expected, and the food was really good. The Hangar steak was really good, the mac & cheese was fantastic, and we had one of the best bloody marys. Staff was all real nice and our waitress was very sweet. The prices were reasonable and much lower than our mediocre lunch at our resort. They had some great rock music playing in the background, which was just my style. Will definitely go back if we are in the area again.

The food was pretty good but the service was lacking. Could have been because it was early Sunday afternoon and pretty dead, but we waited almost ten minutes to place our order. After that, the service picked up. I think there was some kind of confusion as to who was waiting on us at first. I had chicken and waffles. The waffle wasnt very hot and was very hard, but it was tasty. The chicken was delicious and juicy. However, the onion in the toppings clashed with the waffle and syrup a bit. My wife had fish and chips and they were delicious. We would visit again next time we are in the area to see if service was a fluke that day.
