We went last night, mainly for the wood fired oven pizzas. Got a table right away, (mind you its the slow season here, summer), its very large, two story but open and airy restaurant. Our server Michelle was great, attentive, open and honest. Asked about the sangria special because it sounded tart (cranberry and pineapple) she advised it was actually a little too sweet, which I dont care for, and brought me a sample. I ordered the pepperoni pizza, with added garlic, and my GF got the linguine with vodka sauce. They let you create your own pasta dish, choose one of 5-6 pasta styles and about the same amount of sauces. The pizza is "wafer" thin and real good. I dont care for it that thin, but would rather it thinner than thicker. (our fav pizza in Gainesville is a little thicker thats crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, this one is more crispy, crunchy towards the edge). but the sauce, cheese, pepperoni and garlic were perfect. GF wasnt too impressed with the vodka sauce, but she ate it all. They also give you homemade bread with the EVOO/Spice dip. We also each had a salad, her a house with blue cheese, I went with the caesar with anchovies on the side. Both were good. We split a Goombay Smash (not heavy drinkers). All that and it was still under $35. Michelle also gave us a sample of the bolognese sauce in case we wanted to come back later in the week. My GF, again wasnt impressed (she can be quite picky) but it was ok, meaty and tomato-ey with some green pepper. Not a heavy sauce which is more what my GF likes. Would definitely go again.

we ordered some pizzas and a side of meatballs. the meatballs came out first, and they were huge and slathered in tomato sauce. they looked good, but then i tried it. the meat was mushy and lacked flavour. the tomato sauce wasnt seasoned and the whole thing was just weird. they brought us warm bread and a plate of olive oil. then they poured shredded cheese into the oil and it turned into sludge. the pizzas got there and i thought it was going to turn the whole thing around, because they looked really good. there was no parmesan or spicy red peppers to top my pizza with. not a big deal. i cut into it and the cheese was super stretchy!! but then i tried it. the crust felt like it was pre-made and it even had perforations on it. the sauce, again, was flavourless, the pepperoni wasnt the natural-casing type, and the mushrooms just got lost in a sea of minutiae. if you have the chance to come to this place: dont.

Great food, causual, inexpensive with quick service. Good pizza is hard to find in south Florida and this place delivers. The wood burning oven is right by the front door as you walk in making the air smell amazing. The place is open and airy and service is quick and friendly. We had a pizza a pasta dish two different salads and a cup of soup and were very happy with everything. They also bring a very nice blend of Italian herbs and oil to the table with your bread that was delightful. A guy who I assume was the manager came to check on us twice in addition to our waiter during the meal and brought us over a coupon to come back again I think because we were sitting next to a large group. The group next to us wasnt a bother at all but great of management to act without any prompting. We will surely go back next time we are on Sanibel.

Our first trip to Sanibel Island and we eat our first meal out at Matzaluna. That was a big mistake. We were sat in the corner and forgotten by our waiter. We ended up getting our drinks and then just multiple apologizes as he kept forgetting to place our entree order. We watched people getting their salads, entrees, and checks all around us that came in after us. Finally the waiter came up and told us he forgot to put the order in and that it would be right out. We asked for our bill and paid for our drinks and left. We should have walked out earlier and never paid. Needless to say that is the last time we will ever visit a Matzaluna!

Not good. We were here last year around the same time and remembered really liking this place. Has the kitchen staff changed? Food was below par. Pizza, pasta and a chicken dish were all disappointing. The mini cannoli dessert was actually good, but the espresso was another story. It was not espresso. They tried to pass off a tiny cup of regular coffee as espresso. The best we can say about the service is they were obviously understaffed. Our waiter didnt circled back to refill our drinks until we were almost done. We will not be back next time.

This restaurant was very average in terms of food and service. While waiting for our table we sat down at the bar for a drink. The bartender barely acknowledged us and never brought us our change. We ordered cheese sticks and a pizza, and were surprised when the pizza arrived with no sauce and very few toppings. We ordered a side of marinara to dip it into, but I found it inedible. The service was pretty slow, but the atmosphere of the large, 2-story restaurant and the crayons and paper table cloths kept us entertained.

I visit Sanibel and Fort Myers on business every 6 months. Having been to Matzaluna many times over the last 20 years. But not in the last 2years. Disappointment is the only word to describe our dinning experience this evening. Bringing 2 clients there, after raving about it to them was an embarrassment for me. Rather than whine and go into detail. It is not the place I remember with great fondness anymore. Food just ok. Had better Pizza from Dominos, staff not attentive AT ALL until the bill came for the TIP.

My girlfriend and I came here for our 7 year anniversary. I ordered the veal marsala, by recommendation. It was fantastic! My girlfriend ordered a penny vodka, and it was fantastic! Their Pina coladas were amazing! Our waitresss name was Michelle, and she was a terrific waitress! On top of it all, she gave us a free piece of pie for our anniversary! I would give this more stars if I could! If youre undecided on where to go in Sanibel, come here hopefully youll get Michelle as your waitress! :)

Not sure why people are saying the service was not good. Weve eaten there three times in the past week and the service was great. Weve eaten at a lot of places on Sanibel Island and this is perhaps the best. Every waitress we had kept our drinks full and made sure our food was prepared to our preference. Great atmosphere for families, a romantic dinner for two, or for a gathering. We will continue to visit Matzaluna every time we visit Sanibel Island.

Crab bisque was amaaaaaazing! Delicious! Food was superb. Our server Cameron was wonderful. However, the price fits better to a fine dining experience, which this is not. We had a coupon which the manager refused to apply to our meal because we forgot to present it with our ticket. He wanted us to use it next time-there wont be a next time. We ended up spending $70 for 2 entrees, 2 apps and 1 kids pizza. Not worth it.
