I must preface this by saying that the food was good; the service, however was atrocious. Before posting this review, I sent emails to the ownership in which I expressed our displeasure. three weeks later, we have yet to hear a peep, meaning they dont care. Therefore, I am posting my letter on this site explaining the situation. Dear Management, After searching for the perfect restaurant to enjoy an evening with my wife and my sister and her husband- who, incidentally had just come in from a long day traveling- I chose to make reservations at your establishment over several others. Once everyone in my party had arrived, we were seated at a four top and commented on the nice motif the restaurant boasts and the pleasantness of the hostess. From there, the evening went downhill. Our server upon approaching the table never introduced herself, nor did she offer any appetizers or ask us if we had any questions about the menu. She stood there, looking as if she was “put out” that she had to be there, not smiling and staring at her digital tablet waiting for us to tell her what to do and what we wanted. We decided to start with waters all around as we really were not sure what we wanted and an extended period of time passed before those were delivered to our table. When our server returned, she was not at all interested in making sure our needs were met, in that, my sister and her husband wanted a sushi roll, (I am not sure which one), that had cream cheese, something my brother in law does not care for. The request was to have the roll made, ½ with and ½ without, to which the response was, “we can’t do that,” it is either in or out. No offer to ask the chef, come up with another solution, literally it was just that cut and dried, prompting my sister to make another choice, that they ultimately were not impressed with. We ordered our meals and, except for when we started to get annoyed at the lack of service, never saw her again until the bill was delivered. The food, was good, the service however, was not. We had servers and expeditors reaching over the table, across our faces and in general, I cannot think of one instance where general server protocol was followed. Our table condiments were empty and we had to chase down a couple of different people, not our server mind you because she was nowhere to be found, to get new settings. We had to ask several time for drink refills, wasabi and ginger often to different members of your staff. This was a special evening on many levels. My wife and I have triplets and rarely if ever get to go an enjoy a nice evening together. My sister and I see each other on very rare occasions as she lives on the other side of the state. Instead of being served and doted on, we spent much of the evening looking for people to help us, constantly having to break our evening to accomplish what your servers and staff are paid to do. Upon leaving last night, my wife stated,” the food was good, but I don’t know that I would go back because of the service.” I spend 15 years in the industry and I constantly taught my staff that you can overcome a bad meal, but overcoming bad service is nearly impossible. In my opinion the food although good, because of the poor service, suffered there as well. I, personally, would not have left a tip had it not been out of consideration for my Brother in Law who would have been upset if I hadn’t. I get that there are thing that happen, I have honestly been there, however, last night was just over the top. I have been a Kikos customer since it was just a small traditional Japanese restaurant with red rustic tents, tables and cushions. This was a hidden gem in the West side of Fort Lauderdale. I was truly happy to see the upgrade and tasteful investment the Chef/New Owner had made to the Restaurant. I loved to see the restaurant grow and become one of the nicest spots in Fort Lauderdale. Since, Kikos started doing so much better, having more clients and less servers, their customer service started to diminish. I kept going to my favorite Sushi place hoping this was just a one time occurrence. However, last time I was extremely disappointed as it was my friends birthday and we waited for ever for someone to take our order. My Crunch Tuna Roll did not came out well, as it left me with this "burning oil" aftertaste. The server never showed up to ask if we were well or if we needed something else. She asked for re-fills when she was dropping the check. It is too bad to see that such an incredible place is losing its clientele, the ones who have been referring them to so many family and friends. A colleague just asked me for a nice Sushi place to celebrate her birthday, but I was truly hesitant to mention Kikos. I do want her to have the most awesome dinning experience, but I do not think Kikos cares any longer about the quality of their service. Hope you guys improve your etiquette. Your customers are your greatest investment as well as your employees. Make an effort to have more servers handling less tables and focus not to lose the quality of the food and the service.

The worst dinning experience I have ever had. Waiter and manager were the most incompetent and egotisitical people I have ever seen in my life. When a member in my party ordered fried rice to go with their teriyaki dinner, the waiter did not clarify that the meal could not be served this way. When they brought out the food with white rice, the waiter was too proud to admit their error and offer an alternative. When the manager was called, she just agreed with the waiter and even laughed at us for suggesting that the waiter could be wrong. I understand that misinterpretations are common in the restauarant setting, but for a customer to be belittled the way we were was completely inappropriate. All they cared about was taking our money, and not in making sure that the customer is attended to. It is a shame, because we were very excited to bring the rest of our family and friends here. These people are not friendly, nor do they know how to run a business. The manager in question should honestly be fired; she wasnt impartial and will cost this establishment a lot of money down the line. Overall, I dont think this is a horrible restaurant, but dont let the ambiance fool you. Food was subpar at best and over-priced. Youre better off spending your hard-earned money elsewhere.

If there was an option for zero stars I would have taken it. We had a party of 9 on a Tuesday night. The place was not even half full and I have NEVER had worse service in my life, Heck Ive never even reviewed a restaurant before. This visit was almost comical. We ordered beers which after 20 mins I had to ask again for and then finally got 5-10 mins after that. The food took almost an hour to get. Many of us sat with empty glasses for the entire meal, not a single refill. Once we were all clearly finished and waiting for a check, we waited, waited and waited some more. No check. 30 plus minutes went by. I got up and asked the waitress for the check but had to wait for another customer to ask her for something. She too was obviously receiving poor service. 28 mins after having to ASK for the check I managed to ask her again for it ask she was passing by. Finally 5-10 mins after asking a SECOND time for the check it came. Paid the bill and vowed to NEVER return. PS the food was decent (ALTHOUGH EXPENSIVE) but I was too angry to enjoy it. BEWARE of this place.
