Considering that were halfway around the world from Malaysia and Singapore, I would say the foods not bad - good enough for me to go there when I miss food from home, but not good enough for me to rave about it. Ive been there twice over the past month or so and have tried: 1) siu yoke (roasted pork belly). The pork was fragrant and the seasoning was quite nice, but the skin was chewy instead of crispy, like it should be. 2) roti canai (indian flat bread with curry). The curry was fairly nice, but the roti was kinda flat. Back home, its usually fluffier, with lots of paper-thin layers and air pockets between them. Plus the portion was miserable - for $3, you only get 1 tiny piece of roti. I bought the frozen roti prata from the nearby Asian supermarket Dong A and thought it was better than this roti canai. 3) Cantonese crispy noodles - this was good. nuff said. 4) Laksa - Laksa is all about the soup base and if thats not good, it spoils the whole dish. I thought the soup was disappointingly diluted and insipid - it should have been creamier, with more coconut milk. While the sambal (chilli) taste was nice, the soup lacked a certain fragrance. My guess was that they didnt use enough of the laksa leaves, but Im not entirely certain. I brought some packets of Prima Deli Laksa pre-mix from home, and it beat this laksa hands down. 5) Fried Kway Teow (flat rice noodles) - Texture of the kway teow was good and the chicken was nice and tender. But the taste was a bit one dimensional - simply salty. Fried Kway Teow is usually very fragrant and has a mix of sweetness and saltiness. So that was slightly disappointing too. On my first visit, they had a feedback slip with the bill, but not on my second visit. I was a bit disappointed - I thought that with some tweaks, their dishes could potentially be really good.

Horrible? No, but disappointed. Full disclosure: Im a former resident of SE Asia, so my expectations might be a bit higher. The parking was, however, horrendous - so, that, alone, killed one star out of five. Now, if you have never been to Asia or never had prior exposures to genuine Malaysian, Singaporean, Thai, Indian, or Indonesian cuisines, this experience might be a good low-bar introduction. Hawkers, in all fairness, isnt terrible, but, it failed to impress a native of Asia when there are a number of other places throughout Orlando and central Florida that have done a much better job at replicating the full flavors and experience. No one in this place can accurately pronounce some of the names of the dishes. No one seems to care about how we were enjoying the food either; to be fair, the servers were pleasant and helpful, but lacked familiarity with the dishes, their origins, and what they are supposed to taste like. The menu is quite attractively diverse and reflective of the region, and the dishes "looked" good. However, the tastes were a bit lacking. Perhaps, the recipes were toned down to suit the American / Floridian palate. What an insult! The laksa curry, the char kwey teo, mee goreng, etc, all tasted a bit bland. They lacked that distinct Asian spicey note and flavor - almost like everything came out of a plastic bag and heated up before serving. This is sad because there is so much potential to the menu and the concept but the flavors and overall experience left us totally underwhelmed and disappointed. We wanted to love this place, but, admittedly, after having the genuine articles in Asia, Hawkers just doesnt cut it. Sorry, Hawkers... maybe you can hire my mom and improve things a bit.

I went with a semi-large group and I was able to sample several different dishes. While this place is not bad(as in borderline not bad going into "eeeeh"), its not that great either. Everything was lukewarm. Nothing came out had a slight hint of steam from it. As far as taste,.... If I had to sum it up, i would say that most things tasted like.....pre-made or "pre-packaged and add water" types of food. If you ever had cup noodle or sauce packets that you can pick up at the grocery that you just add water and/or milk or whatever else that are in the instruction, then you know what Im talking about. The taste is kind of there, but you know its not "real" cooking. The people who think this is the real deal are the type that think PF Chang is the bomb. It might fool the typical customers who dont know what real Asian food taste like, but it wont pass any real Asian customers. It definitely doesnt live up to its reviews and to the word "Hawker". I will give credit where credits are done. Service is great. Everyone that we encountered were very friendly and accommodating. Fancy contemporary decor/layout. Out of the dishes, I did enjoyed the summer rolls and the Jia Jang Mein. P.S. - In case people want to know what "real" Hawker mean, you should look up Anthony Bourdain - Singapore on youtube.

So it was 4 of us finally having dinner here. I was excited because I heard some good things about this place. First off, we all stood in front of restaurant for about 5min before even being noticed. Fine, the host was busy. We were finally seated outside and we were the only ones at first. 5min passed and we still havent seen a server yet. Then finally the door opens and here comes a table of 6 being seated. Still no server. About 10 min waiting now and a server finally comes out and straight to the table of 6 she goes. She takes their order and goes right back inside. Smh at this point 15min later one of us has to go inside and ask for a server to finally come to our table. Ok moving on ... now we have already ordered. So we all sit waiting for each others food so we can eat. Now we are all done eating and realized we are still missing an order. No one comes for another long while to clear the table. But the main problem here is that we hardly saw our server and the restaurant was not busy at all. We wanted to leave and couldnt because server wasnt around to pay. We would have understood if it was busy. Us working in the service industry we get it. They get 1 star only because the food was decent.
