Ehh, Ill be kind on the star end because I know how much weight they carry with customers. We came here because we were staying across the street. The place is in a great location with a view of the intercoastal. Had my wife and two kids along, we asked for an outdoor table by the water, there were a couple available but the receptionist told us it would be 20 min - thats fine. We waited 15 minutes and the same tables were still sitting empty. I went to a different receptionist and asked if we could be sat inside instead and she sat us right away. We ordered the fish and chips, coconut shrimp appetizer, and swordfish. Got Mac and cheese for the kids, which neither liked. The fish and chips were alright, coconut shrimp were ok and my swordfish was ok. More specifically it was cut thin and grilled with the skin on. It has what was supposed to be a yellow curry sauce and jumbo lump crab on it. It was just ok, I thought it was pretty expensive considering what we got and I wouldnt complain about the price if the food was delicious regardless of how small the portion may be. Our bill was just over $70 and all we had were two meals and an appetizer - no drinks ( Mac and cheese was my side which the kids didnt like). My personal opinion would be to cut the fish thicker keep the same sized portion; also kick up the curry sauce so that you will know what it is without having to be told. Also maybe a spoon of garlic browned butter over the fish once it comes off the grill. Regardless, this was only my personal experience and I still appreciate and support non franchise restaurants that have their own menus and flair.

The wife and I had dinner here on Valentines day. About 30 mins to an hour after leaving the restaurant i got sick to my stomach, spend the entire night curled up in a ball in pain as if Mike Tyson himself landed a body shot right on my stomach. Literally did not sleep the whole night. My wife felt intestinal discomfort too, but she had the filet mignon and only a couple of bites from the crab cakes. I had two whole crab cakes. The next morning I talked to the manager Elliot, who immediately came off as an extremely pompous fellow. He acted as If I was pulling off some sort of scam, stated there was no way his food made me sick because they are very strict and food turns over so quickly there that it cant possibly ever go bad. I cant even remember the last I have been sick from eating something, I have even been to Mexico several times, ate the street food there, drank the water, and never got sick. However in the end Coconuts was able to break the streak and took me down for the count. In the end Elliot told me to write down my address so he could "send me something in the mail", he was referring to a gift card. Perfect, this is just what I wanted, another meal in the restaurant that made me shed tears of intestinal pain on Valentines night. I was treated as If I was trying to get a free meal, instead I was legitimately voicing a concern. Unfortunate, I guess one person getting sick is small game for them, no cares were given. If it matters I paid $94 and change for the meal and left a $20 tip.

I have been going to Coconuts since I was a little girl and have seen it through several incarnations and have felt like it has grown up with me. This new owner though has got to be my favorite. The food is high quality but the atmosphere is still laid back Ft. Lauderdale. Great place to go and relax with friends or on a date as the music is always at just the right level to talk, the specials are always amazing (the mussels, sausage, app we had the last time was amazing- not your typical drowned in marinara or white wine garlic rubbery bits- these were great and different) The frozen mojitos are inspired and not your typical syrupy concotion but the perfect way to stay cool while hanging out on the deck. Lunch is good in the sun- dinner is better with the boats going by. Used to love it when I was a kid getting taken out on the Pro Dive II and stopping in its old form for mozzarella sticks and mandarin chicken salads love it more now that it has a real wine list and the owners secret stash of Budweiser. Oh, and the wait staff- great! I was sold on the specials by a great waiter one night and had fun laughing with our waiter Jack another night. They will push the brunch which is popular but I would recommend dinner.

A class act. Amazing food. Great service. Ate here twice this week! First time was for happy hour and had great conch fritters and the best coconut shrimp Ive ever had. Also had the lobster club sandwhich and it literally blew my mind. I wish I could remember our servers name because her friendliness made us want to come back again. Second time around we came for dinner. It was a busy Thursday night and even busier because it started to rain out of nowhere and all the outside tables had to be moved inside. We were told there was an hour+ wait but their service that pages your cell phone made it so we could wander. I have to praise the staff for keeping it together under pressure of the madness of relocating all the outdoor tables inside while keeping all the people waiting calm. We had Markus as our server and he is the man. His positive attitude and great service made our dinner all that much better. The fresh Mahi was amazing. The scoobies (snow crab claws in a white wine butter reduction) blew my mind again. Unexpectedly the jerk chicken wings were the best Ive ever had, and this is coming from a very picky hard to please person. Keep up the good work! A+++

Solid place overall, mainly because of the view and ambiance. Considering how many waterways FTL has, there are not many of these fancy-ish restaurants that are right on the water, so direct competition is sparse imo. Taking the price of everything into account, the food was average to above average. I got the jambalaya which was pretty great and I sampled other dishes from my party. Big portions all around, not really my thing but better than way too small. Service felt frantic yet effective. Lots of people running around which affects the overall experience. They also completely forgot my girlfriends dish and had to make it *after* everyone was already served and started eating. No explanation given, just a meal that was way too late, only to be rushed to the table and was way too hot to eat. No leeway on the bill either, even for the small dessert items we ordered. Key lime pie was one of the best Ive had, and the ice cream sandwich cake was great too. Decent experience overall, but I had to take away two stars for paying full price on an extremely late main course with no acknowledgement or apology. Not sure if it was bad luck or understaffing.
