Today I had one of the most unprofessional and outrageous experiences of my life. First of all as a Business Instructor I know a little thing about running a Business. Today my sister in law and Brother went to this restaurant and sat, ate and was drinking. I arrived and requested a table large enough for them and us as they said they could not just move them because they would have to check in and check back out, even though they were still paying customers. I asked, why cant we just wait and book at table large enough for us and then move when it its available. They were still drinking anyways and paying. I was told that was fine. Next thing you know the waitress goes over to them and forces them to get up in the middle of the drink and tells them you must move you have to go stand by the door we cant let you sit here. She told them I am a paying customer so why do I have to leave. She proceeded to ignore her and start picking up their things and forced them up. The waittress l, in the mean time, told me the table is almost ready so I assumed thats why they told them to get up. Meanwhile, 20 min later we are still waiting and no table with no wait and people walking in beside us being sat right and left when at this point their are 3 tables available and they could have been put together for us. Instead they continued to ignore us. I have never in my life been told to get up in the middle of a dinner to go stand by the door to wait to be reseated and never get reseated. Then to be treated so rudely in a restaraunt. The Hostesses were rude and obviously had issues with people of a different race than white wince 99% of the clientele was white and was treated great and even allowed to be seated without their entire party there. Which I witnessed. And 6 all white clients who came in after us was seated while we stood there looking crazy. We were about the only 3 colored or mixed race young couple in there and were treated very disrespectfully. A little piece of advice: the customer is always right and you should always try your best to do what is in the best interest of them in order to keep your business. The only reason why they are still in business is due to the fact that Ellenton and Manatee county is full of 55 and older communities. I guess they found their demographic and its a shame. Not even in NYC did I experience discrimination on that level. Very disappointed.

We are a party 0f 5 when we decided to eat at AMOB Ellenton. Since 2 of our company were on their way, I asked Kaitlin the hostess , whose on duty today at between 1 to 130 PM if we could sit while we are waiting for the 2. She did not allow us to be seated on the table and instead told us to wait outside for our party. This was not the first time that Ive ever been to AMOB and we are always seated regardless if we have to wait for others. I called their manager with a phone and asked about that rule, a female answered the phone. She pretended to be the manager. I know the manager was a male and his name was Jon (he came to our table later and asked us on how we are doing) The female on the phone stated that she stood by that decision not to seat parties that are still waiting for their company. I asked for the reason why, she said because if we seat on the table for us for 30 minutes, she could have seated others while we are waiting for our company. I told her you guys are not busy, and the rules does not make sense. I told her that I had been a customer of AMOB for many years and I think it would be rude to let tourist wait outside and not be seated. But oh, well they stood by her rule, the rule of the hostess at that time. Needless to say, the food was good, service was sucky and restaurant is not welcoming to a patron. When we left she said, thank you come again. I looked at the hostess and never said a word. I think Ill pass coming back.

Food, drinks, staff, and decor are mediocre at best. Our waiter hadnt tried their ribs, but oh so helpfully mentioned that people do order them. (One of our party did order the ribs and chicken and it was obvious from the sight of them that people shouldnt order ribs or chicken from an oyster establishment.) I ordered their fried oysters, which were okay. A little too bready, but not bad. The disappointing part was when I got a mouthful of shell in one of my bites. I wasnt upset about it, but mentioned it to the waiter when he asked how our meal was. His response was "at least you know theyre fresh." (Dare I comment that Josh came across as an idiot?) The third thing Ill comment on is their sangria, which our table split two pitchers of. One pitcher was a decent low end sangria. The other was sangria flavored sprite. Not a good sign of bartender quality. In summation, Id still go to there instead of the Waffle House next door. I just wouldnt travel any further than that.

Edit: AMOB doesnt actually have a raw oyster bar, at least one that I saw with a worker shuck in oysters in front of guest. Recently stopped in for dinner on a Friday evening. AMOB had a a lot of potential to be a great restaurant. However, AMOBfeels more like a diner with tacky murals on the wall and ugly carpet, than an oyster bar in Florida. AMOB definitely caters to an "older" crowd, thus why such a marketing push for the happy hour specials. Overall, the drinks and food were okay and nothing to rave about. I ordered a bowl of the Oyster Stew ($9), which came with several plump oysters. Was pretty good. Little rich and buttery. The blackened Mahi Mahi ($15) with potatoes and seasoned rice was mediocre. The Mahi tasted frozen and the rice was extra salty. On a ending positive note, our waiter, Derek, provided excellent service!

Theres not many choices near Ellenton, and this place would be the best choice! The seafood is usually good, but their side items are blah. They really need to revamp their sides. Seasoned rice, red potatos, cottage cheese, sub-par coleslaw, apple sauce or veggie of the day. Also not sure why every restaurant out here uses Kens salad dressing, taking the easy route. Gross. What happened to house ranch, or homemade dressings? We had the Thursday special, prime rib. $14.99 with 2 sides. The prime rib was delish. I switched a side for a salad, which has strawberries, almonds, and bleu cheese. There green beans were cooked in garlic, making them tasty. I do love their lobster bisque, but chunks of lobster didnt make it into my cup. There pasta comes out in a frying pan which is too big for a small table.

Pretty good for these parts. The wait staff is hit or miss, but that bothers me little as I adjust the tip accordingly. The outdoor section is adequate - more could be done with it. The food is always acceptable. No complaints - aside from their oyster crackers anyways. All in all, its the best place I have eaten at near Tampa factoring in the food, atmosphere, and general competency of staff. I have no qualms recommending it to someone else. Dont expect the spectacular and you probably wont be disappointed. I go when I have the chance. Youll find it less crowded and more enjoyable through the week. A nice place to go when you take that rare mental health day off from work! Youll get the most bang for your buck at lunchtime.
