The decor is dated but the ambiance is quaint. Weve been here in the past and it was far below mediocre, however this time, it was fantastic. We really wanted a place close to home and we have tried pretty much EVERY sushi place in Brandon/Valrico/Riverview (as well as several across the Tampa Bay Area). There are a couple that surpass expectations, but they were all 25+ minutes away and we just didnt want to drive, so we decided to bite the bullet and give Yokohama one last try. The online menu (same as the one in the restaurant) seemed very bland and we were somewhat worried about finding anything with even a nominal "wow factor", but we were so SO wrong! The rolls we ordered had so much color and flare and, most importantly, they were deliciously full of flavor. My husband had the tuna tataki (came on a bed of greens and could be eaten like a salad if you choose) as well as the red dragon roll (spicy and wonderful)! I had the spicy albacore (just a slight kick but amazing flavor) and the teru (usually dont go for the tempura rolls but this was SO lightly fried you almost dont even realize it wasnt fresh and it was also beyond expectation). Again, the place has been around for 19 years so there is nothing modern about the atmosphere, ... and although the staff were polite, the place was pretty slow, being that it was a weeknight, so there was no excuse for the slow service. But we will definitely be going back. Many more times. Again, folks, we are sushi addicts and are extremely picky about our sushi, and we can honestly say that the rolls we had were on par with Soho & Samurai Blue. If you can get past the dated decor and somewhat slower service, it is absolutely worth a try!

I went here for ramen. The menu says fresh ramen. Not a specific style of ramen which immediately alarmed me. I went through with the dinner bc this is the only place in brandon which sales ramen. Although the service was good and the owner and waiter were freindly the ramen was below sub par. It was no better than what I make at home and no where near authentic. It seemed to be just a bunch of stuff that was randomly thrown together and called ramen. It did not have pork belly just roast pork, the eggs were hard boiled not soft boiled, it was in a beef broth, and the noodles were hard. Not to mention it took a while for them to make it which is surprising since the noodles were nit even nade in house. I was disappointed that it was served w dry noodles and not freshly made noodles like in other authentic ramen houses. Overall, I would not be returning. The woman who seated us sd they were "famous" for their ramen. Thats hard to believe since it was barely above instant. Other notes...loud music being played in the playhouse next door. It was very unappealing. The restaurant decor was old and out dated. Kind of dark inaide of the restaurant. The restaurant was fairly empty for dinner yet we were seated in the back near the kitchen and bathrooms. The restaurant smelled heavily of cigarette smoke.

The staff is very warm and friendly, and sitting at the sushi bar, everyone talks and has fun with the chefs and waitresses. Now that they are open for lunch Ill get to eat there 4-5 times a week instead of 2-3 times. These are the best tasting rolls we have found since moving from Los Angeles, and we have tried many other places. It is nothing fancy decor wise, but the food and service are simply fantastic. The sashimi is great quality and a pretty thick cut. This place serves fish in a sushi roll that can actually be tasted, not cucumbers, like so many other places :) They also have a great selection of Saki, and if you arent a big Saki fan, there is one that tastes like Vodka and is served chilled, so it is a good substitution.

This restaurant has been nothing but angelic. In the early hours its relaxed and calm and gives you personal time with their chef, Kenny. He and his wife make the environment enjoyable on my lunches. The food is authentic and delicious. The freshness is unquestionable. The selections give you enough variety without killing yourself to make a decision, which is a great problem with any sushi connoisseur. The setting is pretty romantic in the wee hours, very village-like and intimate. I will always come here when Im not into the hustle and bustle of Kobe or any other equivalent. Ive yet to find a negative other than its a small place so if its a busy night good luck lol.

Been here in the area about 15 years but only found out about this place in the last five. When I wanted authentic Japanese food I had to wait until I made a trip to Orlando to go to Akis Japanese restaurant (known by many as simply Japan food). This place is equal to that. While they have their own uniqueness, for a place closer to me, spectacular food, quiet environment, but u have to find it. The owners aNd workers there are awesome and down to earth! If my Orlando people ever come down wanting Japanese I will bring them here!

I went there with a large group of friends, about 16. The vast majority of us were very disappointed in the food, whether it was the seaweed salad and sushi most of us had or the ginger salad and teriyaki chicken that a couple others got. Im told the meso soup was good, but that was really the only positive comment anyone had to say about the food here. Even those who werent outright disappointed said that they have had much better at other places in the area.

The BEST miso soup! The food is authentic and delicious! We have been accustomed to the "traditional" restaurant chain hibachi style Japanese cuisine but when we first tried this place we can never go back to them. This is hands down the best sushi, tempura, miso, and authentic homemade Japanese cuisine you can find in the entire Tampa bay area! Superb service and extremely friendly staff.......Two thumbs up!

This place is wonderful. The atmosphere was cozy and the place is definitely low key. The Japanese native chef is really nice and efficient at his work. His wife is really great and talkative. Their daughter is a wonderful server and overall the place is quaint. I had the Udon and it was wonderful. Then I had GREEN TEA icecream. It was the greatest flavor I had ever tried. Overall Im impressed.:)

As a Japanese, it is the real thing. I am dying for good food for a long long time. I am so happy to find this place. Although it is not a fancy place, it makes me feel like I am home. I am very happy with the home cook food and the services. The waitress always make me so enjoyable and worth my trip every time. Love this place......

Yokohama is our 1st choice in sushi & Japanese in Brandon for years. The sushi chef has delicious & fresh specials, my husband almost always gets the sukiyaki (its so flavorful). Affordable, nice staff, and even on a Friday night at 7 you can always get a table right away, despite it being busy. Highly recommended.

I wish I could find a way to describe how amazing this restaurant is. Its a blessing to the community and truly the best sushi Ive ever eaten. If the world would treat each other as good as this establishment treats its customers we would all live in heaven. Seriously...let yourself be treated and eat here!!!
