My experience with Rise Bakery began after trying to purchase a gluten free birthday cake for a "gluten free" friends birthday. You need to place an order 48 hours in advance to get a cake which seems a little ridonculous so I ended up getting cupcakes instead, the order was not correct so the manager offered his apologies and a 50% discount which definitely made me like the place a lot. As far as the cupcakes go, after taking a small bite of the red velvet cupcake, my knees became weak and I started hallucinating that I was riding on a unicorn through rainbow land and swimming through that incredibly delicious cream cheese topping. Apparently, a few minutes later I came to, on the floor; everyone was staring at me and I had satisfied look on my face which warranted a cigarette; except, I dont smoke. It was only then that I realized that my oral euphoric orgasm was caused by rise bakerys use of magical elf crack, which they stir in a cauldron stolen from Harry Potter himself and sprinkled on their cupcakes using fairy dust from neverland while holding an infinity stone. I have been craving those cupcakes ever since. Thank you Rise Bakery for your delicious cupcakes, and I hate you for making me addicted. ;)

I am gluten-free not by choice and am always in search of good gluten-free bakeries. I went to this bakery at after hearing all the fuss and seeing the great reviews however was disappointed. I got a chocolate croissant, chocolate cupcake and bag of 4 plain bagels. Not trying to be a negative Nancy but none of it was good. The croissant was extremely dense and tasted nothing like a croissant, the bagels too were extremely dense and I struggled to eat just 1/2 of the bagel and the cupcake, frankly Ive made gluten-free cupcakes that taste better. Also, while I am use the the higher cost of gluten-free items, I spent over $20 for the 3 items and ended up throwing it all away after a few bites. Maybe my taste buds are different but Ive had better free gluten free bakery items. I personally would not recommend this bakery to any of my colleagues, friends or family. Just my opinion. Maybe they had a bad batch or bad day, regardless, I wont be wasting my money again. People like what they like so if you like then continue to enjoy. If you have never been then I recommend proceeding with caution and venturing there only if you truly have money to throw away.

I found Rise online when searching for baked goods for a baby shower tea I was giving for my gluten intolerant daughter. Jackpot! The Rise bagels, croissants, and brioche made tea sandwiches so good that wheat eating guests may become converts to gluten free. The Rise gluten-free scones were biggest hit -- gingery sweet in taste, creamy crumb texture--a real treat. I arranged a pre-order and it was boxed perfectly and ready to go for pickup on the morning of the shower. Mike and colleagues are great to work with. For those of us who live outside Adams Morgan, Rise is definitely not a cinch to get to, but well worth the effort. If youre walking or hanging out on 18th Street dont walk by. Walk up the stairs and go try something on their excellent menu.

Friendly service, they certainly didnt judge that I was trying to buy up all the goodies. It was my first time there, and my first time in a bakery since being told by my doctor to stay away from gluten. I was in heaven, even before I tasted it, but the taste , goodness...is amazing, better than what most gluten laden sweets and baked goods taste like. I think I tried everything, and EVERYTHING was good! The superfood bread needs to be a staple in my house, the vegan chocolate chip cookies are to die for and the everything bagel, cinnamon roll and red velvet cupcake...was all worth the drive all the way there from where I live. Ill be on my treadmill until I return :-)

This place is like heaven for those of us who have had to give up anything gluten-filled due to allergies. I have been craving an "everything bagel" loaded with cream cheese for YEARS and my craving was FINALLY satisfied here!!! I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars! Its just SO good! The croissants are great too, just keep in mind you wont get that same flakey texture (because you need gluten for that) but they are an excellent replacement for "real" croissants! I havent even made it to the sweets counter yet.... Thats for another trip. For now, I have bagel to shove in my face, so gotta go

This isnt just a gluten free bakery, its a gluten free bakery with the most outstanding selection of any Ive seen outside of New York and Portland, Maine. Cinnamon Rolls, chocolate croissant, ham and cheese croissant, eclairs, breakfast muffins, as well as the standard brownie and cupcakes. Also available are frozen bread and frozen biscuits (USA style). The eclair and croissants were outstanding, as was the cinnamon roll. Not just made well, but using a bespoke recipe to achieve a better taste then a typical gluten free recipe manages.

I had wanted to stop in here for some time after passing by their clever signage everyday on my way to work. I finally did and it was a great experience. The Breakfast Sammie on a Biscuit was absolutely, perfectly delicious. Its all you can ask for in a breakfast sandwich. Bonus points because I came in having run out of milk and forgetting to put ice in my iced coffee - they took care of both of those shortcomings, which was much appreciated and really brought home that neighborhood bakery feel. Will most certainly be back!

This bakery has small items at overall expensive prices. Dough used for ham & cheese, and chocolate croissants is very tasty although not very croissant- like. (Maybe using the dough for popovers would be better.) However, chocolate, and ham & cheese filling was too little for the amount of dough. Everything bagels are very small and at $8.95 for four too expensive, especially since they taste very dry and somewhat sandy. My friend had a chocolate cupcake which she really enjoyed.

Very good gluten free baked goods! Including the items you loved when you were glutenous and have missed dearly i.e. Sticky cinnamon rolls and croissants! Get them warmed if offered. You can still see the buttery layers in the croissants. Delicious. A must for the gluten free folk! Plus they have almond milk on the counter for those who dont take dairy/soy in their coffee. Always nice to see!

Finally tried the gluten-free croissant which was perfect. There were lots of vegan bakery options too for my boyfriend (who isnt gluten-free, but enjoyed his gluten-free cupcake.) They have some of the best gluten-free bread too -- sub buns, rolls. I stop by for a bagel w/ cream cheese at least once a week. Its a great spot with a cozy seating section and friendly staff.

I tried this place once so far and was very impressed. They have a big sign pointing out that the whole bakery is gluten free, which put my mom and me at ease. And the croissants were amazing. I hadnt had one in years because of my gluten free lifestyle and these were exactly how I remembered them being. I cant wait to go back and try their other baked goods!
