**UPDATE: The wife and I returned to give this place another shot, this time for brunch. We both chose to do the brunch buffet which included pancakes, biscuits, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, jalapeno & cheese scrambled eggs, and fruit (and maybe some other stuff, I cant remember). We came in with lower expectations than last time and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was very fresh and hot, you could tell they did not let these buffet items sit for very long. although they didnt have to because the pans were cleared out of food within minutes of being served. We have definitely found a cheap brunch spot for those lazy sunday mornings when you dont want to go to a hi-tone brunch spot or spend $30 at a steakhouse brunch. However, I should warn you, we are not the only ones who like their brunch because it gets PACKED, so definitely be prepared to wait if you get there late. ** The wife and I tried it out for dinner. Love the atmosphere and decor. We sat at a table right in front of the big windows next to the street. It was a quiet rainy evening and it was very nice to watch people stroll by as we relaxed. The service was prompt and polite and professional. The food was decent for the price. We started with a pick two appetizer. Fried pickles had too much reading for our taste but we also had the black pepper fries and those were amazing. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. Everything came out fresh and hot. The chicken fried steak was thick and seasoned well. The Mac and cheese was creamy. My wife had the chicken tetrazzini and it was dry with little flavor. We didnt order dessert even though the key lime pie looked delicious. I think next time I will try their breakfast. Overall its a good place to eat dinner, just dont have very high expectations.

Male host was not understanding that there was an elderly woman customer, and even with four open tables, would not accommodate seating up until my moms elderly sister and daughter were present, given this was after one oclock in the afternoon on a Thursday, and "peak hours" were Not posted. After thirty minutes of sitting by ourselves with No other customers coming in to wait along side of us, I confronted a female waitress concerning why they would make us wait like that with four open tables where my elderly mom could have had at least a glass of water, while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. After finally sitting us, a female hostess/waitress tried to inform me again about the sign at the front, regarding waiting for the rest of our party during "peak hours", but the "peak hours" were Not posted Nor stated. She didnt even give them to me at that point, either. So, we still dont know what their "peak hours" are, even at this point. Just a sad first impression for my elderly mom and not a memorable experience for either of us. So sad....

While I like Spoons Cafe and their cute little courtyard-like dining area, this review is mostly for Spoons Garage. I completely forgot all about Spoons Garage until the last time my husband and I were in Downtown Mckinney. It was Valentines Day and the streets were packed as usual and we were getting a little hungry and didnt want a lot of food before our big dinner later that evening and we also just didnt want to be in a crowded restaurant. Then a light bulb went off in my head! Around the corner from Spoons Cafe and away from from all the hustle and bustle, tucked away is Spoons Garage and Bakery. Its like a quiet little sanctuary in the middle of everything, almost the same menu as Spoons but made better by the peace you get from being able to hear your own thoughts and being able to hear the conversations you are trying to have. I get overwhelmed by crowds pretty easily but a stop at Spoons Garage and a bowl of those tasty sweet potato fries did just the trick. Its the place you forgot you actually liked.

We recently used Spoons to cater our daughters wedding there in McKinney. We were VERY disappointed! We told Spoons what our RSVP totals were in advance so they would be prepared. They ran out of chicken, hot coffee(coffee bar), hot chocolate, both sweet and un-sweet tea and water. At one point I want to get something to drink and there was nothing and I was told someone went to get more water. Later when the water showed up(room temp) there was no ice. We had several plates broken and silverware missing, far more then the average, and had to pay our rental company additional money. Spoons refused to take any responsibility and blamed everyone one else including the brides family. The prep room was an absolute mess and our sister in law spent 25 minutes cleaning after the Spoons staff so we would avoid an addition expense from the venue. Be advised, use Spoons at your own risk! Unhappy Father of the Bride

Something has happened after the holidays with this quaint restaurant. My wife and I have been frequent customers the past year and have had great experiences to this point. After the holidays this restaurant has had a change in mgmt. and it seems to be for the worst. The customer focus and attention has seemed to evaporate. My wife and I watch the staff walk around us as if we were not in the building, so much for a greeting us as we walk in the door. On the past two (Jan.)visits we have sat ourselves basically. A lady named Denise introduced herself as the new manager/owner during our meal, thus continuing a conversation about herself as we were trying to eat our meal. The family enviroment and structure has decipated, getting a tea refill is like pulling teeth. Needless to say, we really like the food and we hope the new manager/owner gets her act togather!

Im surprised at some of the reviews this place has gotten. Ive always had a great experience with my family and friends here. We always come for breakfast and the food is always delicious and the staff is always very friendly. My family loves trying different breakfast places on Sunday, so weve been to more places than we can count across the metroplex. We all agree that this place is in our top two. For those of you who complain about the speed of the service( which is perfectly fine), why are you in such a hurry on Sunday morning anyways? Sit back, relax, enjoy the great food and atmosphere! If time is of the essence, drive through a McDonalds. Im sure they can toss that in a sack and have it out in just enough time for you to complain about how long that car in front of you is taking to get out of your way.

Stopped by Spoons after my business at the court house. I walled in the atmosphere was welcoming. Rebecca greeted me told me to pick a spot. She promptly gave me a menu and as for choice of drink. Rebecca was my server and was very attentive. I ordered the Jose omelette and it came with a side of potatoes and Spoons salsa. The food was great. Now the garage, great coffee. I ordered the Radiator, such a work of art, put a smile on my face. So much so, I ordered an Overhaul (Cuban coffee) to go. Id come back in a heart beat. The decor was nice, I loved the chandelier. At first glance it looked like branches and twigs put together; I was told it was made of metal, nice. As a whole, nice and enjoyable. I would recommend :-)
