There ought to be a requirement to be able to add and subtract to be able to do business. I was at this business today. I was at the register buying a gallon of milk for $4.79 (I know, way too high right?), and the cashier REFUSED my debit card because she said theres a $5.00 minimum on credit or debit card purchases. I couldnt believe it. Not only do I happen to know that this is in violation of the stores merchant agreements, but I was dumbfounded that this lady was going to actually turn down a $4.79 transaction for lack of 21 cents! I left the milk on their counter (it will cost them a lot more than 21 cents in labor to put it back, even at a $7.25 minimum wage, AND they lost a sale) and walked a block EAST to a convenience store nearby. Not only was that business happy to accept my small contribution to their revenue, but I got it for 80 cents cheaper! A win-win for me and a merchant that truly values doing business instead of creating a hassle.
