Me and my friends had some sushi for lunch today. The sushi and service were just ok for me. The price of the sushi was more expensive compare to that I had in New York. At first, we didnt know we "have to" tip them, so we put all the coins we had with us on the table as soon as were told to do so by the waitress. The waitress was very unhappy, saying that we can keep our tips if we tip so little in an sarcastic tone. She said it is necessary to tip at least 15-20% in a restaurant in US, and everyone knows the rule. However, for my understanding. We tip them depends on your dining experience and the food they provided for you. I wasnt prepare to tip them because the food was ok and the waitress just served the dish and gave us some water thats all.(I dont think they served genuine sushi either since they are Chinese)She gave us an attitude, unwilling to let us go since were not gonna tip them. As a Taiwanese tourist, I was offended by their conduct and attitude. At last, we tip them for over 10% and left. I have no freaking idea about those Chinese people, she even said that we tourist must have money since were out for a vacation. I definitely dont recommend this place to anybody, all they care is your money, not your dining experience. Hope they are still there in the near future haha.

We had dinner at Momiji. We shared a seaweed salad and four rolls (eel&avocado, spicy tuna, sweet potato, and jumbo sumo). All of them were okay, with the sweet potato being nice and warm, and the spicy tuna having a great kick to it. If they added "crunchy" to their spicy tuna, it would be unstoppable. The fish was okay. Maybe a little fishy. We came here because we wanted sushi, and for a $$-restaurant on Yelp it had great reviews. Imagine our surprise, then, when most rolls were around $14. Thats not what I think of as a $$-restaurant (more like a $$$-restaurant). The smaller rolls, like the spicy tuna and eel&avocado, were closer to $6, which seemed better. But if you want fun/ky rolls, youll pay a steep price. Nothing about Momiji wowed me, including the ambiance. It felt like a bar that happened to serve food, with lots of loud groups, and multiple TVs going at the same time as a the radio. So it was just noisy. With that said, if you stick to simple rolls and no appetizers/sides you could be in and out for under $20 a person, so thats not terrible.

Im Japanese and I should never go to an unknown Japanese restaurant... but I did... This is poor imitation Japanese... and probably worse than some of the other imitatio Japanese restaurants in the DC area. The wait staff are not Japanese and I dont think the chef is either (give them the benefit of the doubt since I did not meet them). This isnt necessarily a bad thing but the waitress didnt know the food -- The waitress didnt know what ramen noodles were and they called it "linguini." Tempura batter was not Japanese (or they didnt know how to use it properly), sashimi was dried out, udon broth tasted like it came from an instant package, Teriyaki sauce tasted like it came from a cheap supermarket brand. The egg on the tamago sushi was not made the Japanese way and tasted pretty bad. The nail on the coffin for me was that they served long grain rice (typical for Chinese food) with the food... The only thing that tasted somewhat authentic was the green tea (it probably came from a tea bag). Im really surprised by all the good reviews...

Everything here is fantastic. The service is top notch. I made a reservation and I was late, so obviously they gave my table away. But even then they were very kind and quick in finding another table for myself and my girlfriend. In addition, the server was attentive, but not invasive, throughout the night. One of my favorite parts was how the food is light yet filling as sushi should be. The sweet potato roll is amazing. Its very crispy and sweet at the same time and works well with soy sauce. The sushi is very well priced and the variety of food is excellent ranging from Asian salads to soups to full sushi platters to fried green tea ice cream. Also, the restaurant has an upstairs more classy bar and dining area and a downstairs more casual eating area next to the kitchen for however you are dressed. There are quite a few vegetarian options on the menu including vegetable tempura, vegetable rolls, and cucumber rolls. I love this place and would go back in a heartbeat.

Momiji is just 2 of blocks east of the Gallery Place/Chinatown metro stop and is a very short walk from the Verizon Center in Chinatown. The atmosphere is laid back and cozy. There is excellent hibachi downstairs and its one of the only places downtown Ive ever found that has a hibachi grill. Upstairs there is a very nice bar and additional seating including an outdoor patio for when the weather warms up. The staff is exceptionally friendly and talented, and the crowd includes regulars that are always willing to suggest new things to try, and people just passing through that enjoy delicious japanese food and a spectacular cocktail. They have some great happy hour deals and the best gyoza Ive ever eaten in my life. The sushi is very creative and delicious with many different rolls and combinations. I would definitely travel all over the city to find a place like this, but luckily it is in a location that is easily accessible to all.

We went to Momiji at 6 p.m., or at pitch black for Seattle winter. This meant that the place looked far more intimate than it actually was, and you could vaguely make out the small central garden. For lighting and ambiance alone alone, it makes for a good date spot. The service was good and decently fast, and it was all fine, but, honestly, nothing exciting. The tempura was slightly cooled but fine; the grilled portobello mushrooms could have used a tad more seasoning or a dash of citrus. The nabeyaki udon lacked an egg, so the dish felt unfinished. The food was fine, but not anything I was super thrilled to eat. Id make it a date night place or someplace to take people I wanted to impress, but I wasnt in love with it. That being said, I didnt try the sashimi, so Ill have to review this place again.

The food was so flavorful. I have been to about 9 different Hibachi restaurants and this was BY FAR the best tasting. The flavor of the clear broth, onion soup was spectacular. The mustard and ginger sauces were so pure. Not watered down. The chef was a little underwhelming, but still nice and he tried a little bit. Im not into the flair of the cooking so much anymore, so I didnt really care. Plus it was the end of lunch, so Im guessing that they were a bit lax. Also, the part where the Hibachi grills were was small. There were only 2 of them, but I dont care, the food was SO good, Ill go back again. I really loved the taste.Oh and the price was good (compared to others. Steak & shrimp was $24 and I didnt have to pay extra for fried rice). Can you tell how much I loved it? :-)
