Sidamo is the best coffee shop ever. I used to live nearby and always make time for a visit when Im back in DC. I love Ethiopian coffee, and Sidamo roasts on-site so it doesnt get any fresher than this. They make amazing espresso drinks. No one else does foam like Sidamo. Even a soy cappuccino (which is usually a little limp elsewhere) comes out frothy and delightful. Bulk coffee is a bargain and they also have very good tea and sandwiches. The large front window, high tin ceiling and rotating artwork contribute to a bright, cheery atmosphere. Space is tight but the quiet back patio is lovely when the weather is nice. They will never pressure you to hurry or leave. Service is generally very friendly, especially if the owner is there (the staff sometimes refuse to serve drinks in real porcelain unless he is around, which is annoying). If you are there at the right time you may get to chat with Kenfe while he roasts coffee, or enjoy a traditional coffee-roasting ceremony (Sunday afternoons at 2pm). I credit them with starting the H St Renaissance.

Sidamo is an H Street staple. Its been around before H Street was cool and provides a home to coffee shop lovers in DC. Its on the Union Station side of H Street and all its coffee is from a single source. When you walk inside Sidamo, you feel like you stumbled up an old, hidden gem. There are coffee bags on the ground and only 7 single tables. There are plenty of plugs and free wifi so HUGE win for them. I havent had their coffee, but their hot chocolate is good. $3 for a large hot chocolate in a mug and its sweet enough that you dont need to put extra sugar in it.

WORST SERVICE EVER. We ordered breakfast sandwiches, theyre out of croissants, but didnt tell us, but charged us extra $.50 for everything bagel. We only realized after we paid and got the receipt. We were just waiting to get our food and got yelled at by the cashier, something like "What are you doing? Go sit down and wait, we have a lot of customers, its gonna be 20 minutes" 20 MINS FOR SOME SANDWICHES????? A server came out and told us theyre out of everything bagel and theres only plain bagel left. Finally, the cashier delivered and YELLED at us.

And that is just one part of it. Sidamo specializes in providing free trade and organic coffees and tries to provide as much of these coffees from Africa, especially Ethiopia. Sidamo is the name for the coffee region in Ethiopia. In addition to coffee, Sidamo also offers a wide variety of teas, breakfast, lunch and some desserts. Their prices are on point and their customer service, coffee and food is always superb. Stop in on Sundays to participate in a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony.

I tried Ethiopian coffee and it was not that good. I tried to get explanation from the barista about different blends but he wasnt able to explain anything. The interior is a bit crowded and not very pleasant for work. There is only one standing table and it is not the most stable one. H street is a cool place and it is at good location. But I wish they would improve customer service and maybe take out few tables to have more space.

Visited D.C. on July 15-16 and of course had to find the perfect coffee shop to try the morning before going back to Raleigh, NC. Researched a few places and settled on this place. The coffee was outstanding and the location was perfect; not to mention the nice little area out back with all the greenery. Definitely a go to place for my next foray to the city!

Sidamo is my fave coffee shop in the city. With so many to choose from now, Sidamo is still a place with heart and a great familial feeling. The food is delicious, and Im especially fond of their tea cakes and veggie foul. They serve extremely good coffee, strong and flavourful, and the service is always friendly and kind.

Dont see what the hype is about. The vaunted "single origin" is the norm for most small cafes and coffee shops. Seems like a place for locals, but if you enjoy coffee, this is not your place. The espresso was served burnt and in a tall to go cup. Youre better off heading down the street to Maketto.

I had a layover at Union Station and walked over here to get a little work done. The server was friendly and the atmosphere pleasant. The mango iced tea was refreshing. Seating is a little tight but I was comfortable and able to get work done. The wireless was fast enough and reliable.

The coffee is good but unexceptional. Pastries are pretty good, they have a croissant/muffin hybrid sort of thing thats quite good. Breakfast sandwiches are mixed... Great bagel, but terrible egg and the cheese is almost definitely Kraft. Still probably the best coffee shop on H Street

A small neighborhood coffee shop with a nice ambiance. I really enjoy the outdoor seating in the summertime, its like your are sitting in a garden. The owner and employees are always nice. They have great tasting coffee and a variety of loose leaf teas - you gotta try the chai tea.

The best coffee this coffee drinker has tasted in quite a while. And the bagel breakfasts were quick, hot, flavorful and filling. A very pleasant environment. I just hope they can expand because the place can be crowded. If you can eat outside, the experience is even better.

One of the best local coffee shops. Never really had time to sit there and enjoy my coffee but their to-go option are equally good. Once I stopped there for morning coffee and got free breakfast and coffee from "Angel from Hell" promo team.

From the smell of roasting coffee beans to the music of Mulatu Astatke, Sidamos is among the best coffee shops and atmospheres in the Washington DC area. And when the weather is nice, the back outdoor seating area is divine.

Delicious coffee that I believe they roast in-house -- they have enormous bags of raw Ethiopian coffee beans in the corner, at least! Theyre super friendly and the atmosphere is cozy and conducive to lingering.

I was hoping my poor experience here last time was a fluke but this places expedience is so bad. 10 minutes for 1 bagel with cream cheese... when we ordered 3. Another 6 minutes for the other 2.

Love, love, love this place! Sometimes it can be difficult to find a seat, and the wait for coffee can be exasperating, but the people are so nice and the coffee is absolutely perfect.

The coffee here is excellent and theres a multitude of plugs if you are here to work on your computer. Has just the right amount of noise.
