Sat for over an hour without ordering. Ordered our drinks, thirty minutes later 3 out of 8 of us didnt have our drinks. Waitress never checked on us!!! Had to go find her to order another Corona. 20 minutes after ordering the Corona when we asked where it was the waitress says the bar is still working on it. Really? 30 minutes for a Corona? Asked for salt and pepper three times before getting some. When we flagged down our waitress she basically would run from us after hearing one request but we all had request. Our drinks were empty the whole time. When asked to speak to a manager I was told she was busy waitressing and would be a little while. Comes to find out she is our waitress so I tell the host nevermind. Host took my number for another manager to call. I dont mind waiting for but if the waitress is non exsistant as well, we have a problem.

I cant vouch for everyone because this is my first visit here, but I have to be honest and say my personal experience was great. Yes, the wait was 45 minutes but its not because of a bad restaurant, its a small restaurant. The awesome part is that they take your phone number and text you when your table is ready. My girlfriend and I went 1 minute down the street and had a few drinks at a bar to kill some time which was great. Once we were in the service was great. I just had a beer but she ordered a margarita (which was huge). The apps were good and the dinner went right along with it. My recommendation, dont use other peoples reviews to make a final decision. If I took the negative reviews seriously I wouldnt have came, and Im glad we ignored it. After our apps, dinners, and drinks, it was only $46, which is more than reasonable for two.

Agave is one of our favorite restaurants in the Lewes / Rehoboth Beach area. Every thing we have ordered has been excellent and the ingredients are fresh, which we think is What distinguishes a great Mexican restaurant. On our latest visit we tried the Guacamole with pine nuts for an appetizer, and a Tomatillo Stack and a Shrimp Burrito for entrees. All excellent. Portions are large; while I finished my burrito my wife took half her entrée home. The one downside to Agave is its popularity. It is a small restaurant (even after their recent expansion) and do not take reservations. As locals, we go off times, but in season is always busy. If you pick a popular dinner time in season plan for up to a 2-3 hour wait, so put your name in and then visit the many shops in Lewes while waiting. Agave will text you when your table is ready.

Agave is a great Mexican restaurant in Lewes close to the beach. The food is made with the freshest ingredients. The Margaritas, also made fresh are amazing (bring a designated driver). The staff from management to bus-boys are the politest , kindest people wanting to ensure you have the best experience. The restaurant is small, quaint, and you could walk by it without knowing; the size makes for a personal warm experience. With that being said, the wait can be very long, plan ahead! I try my hardest to enjoy Agave no less than once every 5 weeks! Love this place, and I am sure you will too. I recommend the large Pomegranate Margarita & the triple sampler of Guacamole, Goat Cheese & Pine Nut, Gala Apple & Midnight Moon Cheese, and Shrimp. Also, leave some room for some amazing Jalapeno Cheese Corn Bread!

9/23/16- My husband & I were in DE for a quick anniversary trip. We are fans of Mexican food. We had a Mexican buffet for our wedding reception, need i say more! We discovered Agave on TripAdvisor & it was also recommended by out host at the B&B(Lazy L) where we stayed. We went for dinner, but were told it would be a 90 minute wait. We traveled all day & were tired, so we made the decision to go back for lunch the next day. So glad we did! We started w/ apps. Cant go Mexican without guacamole. My husband had the chicken burrito & I had the Blue Cheese/Filet Quesadilla- both fabulous! The guacamole was so fresh, we couldnt get enough! We ordered some to go for our trip home on the Cape May Ferry. Sunset & Guacamole cant beat it! Make sure you go to Agave when in Lewes! It is worth the wait!

Agave presents a rich pallet of flavors that reminded us of the amazing food we had in Sante Fe a couple of years ago. The nacho appetizer was great and seemed popular (though ours arrived cold), and we thoroughly enjoyed the steak/blue cheese quesadilla, chicken enchilada, and tamale with mole (which was almost too spicy). Great flavors and textures - highly recommended! The wait times are extreme, but if you drop in and leave your cell phone number, you can wander Lewes until your time nears and they text you. They dont take reservations. Theres also a lounge upstairs in the back, accessible outside, with a patio and indoor bar and limited menu.

Staff was great and a reasonable wait time from servers as it was packed. I have tried many times to get in with high hopes because the wait is always hour plus for tables. I finally got in and after the food (4 dishes) I dont get the hype. I thought it was a classy joint but was not and the food type as Mexican was botched, over spiced, over cooked and just plain... most of the tables around me ate up their meals so it was good to a decent taste but I was expecting exceptional and this fell very short of that. I will go back to try the things I did not get to try this time only to be fair but I do not expect it will match the hype

The food was good, but we ordered chips and salsa and queso and waited over 10 minutes for a refill of chips (after we asked for one). We had to finally go to the hostess to ask for someone to get us more. By the time they arrived (close to 15 minutes later at this point), the queso had become cold and hard. We also had to wait quite a while for the server to come pick up the check... AFTER they knew we had already had an issue. She took our check and began busing more tables before ringing our check through (thus making us wait longer). The food was good, but not the service. I wouldnt come back because of it.

Friday morning, 11/25 5:50 am. As a local resident, Im in-line for the highly anticipated Agave gift card sale that starts at 8:00 am. At about 9:05 am, when I am 8-10 people back from the front of the line, with literally hundreds more customers behind me, Agave closes the door and says they are out of gift cards. I am more than disappointed with the owners for not acknowledging their loyal locals who frequent the restaurant throughout the year and often bring guests. For 2017, my guests and family will be boycotting Agave in favor of other local restaurants that value their year-round customers.

This places has extremes. Somethings are very good, but other things are really terrible. Overall, its better than average Mexican food, but incredibly bad service (every single time weve gone), and very expensive for what you get. Plus, they dont take rez, and theres always a wait of 1-2 hours! Just not worth the hype. Margs are good, street corn is delicious, and chiles en Nogada is as good as Ive had south of the border. But we cant deal with the poor and uncaring service and high prices. Forget trying to get in during the summer, try off season or mid-afternoon if you want less than 30 min wait.
