I am a UConn graduate student who lives very close to this bagel shop. First off, before I get into details, Id like to point out that the food here IS in fact, good. The reason you should avoid this place at all costs is the personnel. The people who work here are consistently rude to customers in person, as well as on the phone. They lie about the availability of certain bagels or cream cheeses (the most popular ones) in order to have more available later in the day. Any semi-intelligent owner would be able to circumvent the need to lie like this by simply ordering more of these bagels or cream cheeses, but as it stands, I have regularly been told they are out of this bagel or that cream cheese, only to see it being prepared for other customers. Another huge issue of contention with this place is their policy on ordering over the phone. The line at this place is very, very long, and thats almost 100% because they are slow and borderline incompetent. Calling ahead SHOULD be a simple solution to this, however despite offering this as an option, they choose to mock and point out customers who have ordered ahead as being the reason for delays, which is complete and utter nonsense. If you dont want to have people ordering over the phone, DONT OFFER IT AS AN OPTION! Its stunning to me just how many of the problems this place has could be solved by simple common sense, however they prefer to be rude and accusatory in order to cover up for their own inadequacies. They would be better off having a couple orangutans a few chimpanzees back there tossing bagels around than their current staff--even if the apes occasionally lobbed some of their feces in your direction, at least you could expect some level of decency from them, and probably a lot faster turnaround on simple breakfast sandwiches.

Bagels are good and I generally want to support local businesses over chains, however service here can be so unfriendly and rude I generally choose not to go based on principle. As mentioned in another review they have a policy against giving out large numbers of bagels without pre-ordering. This makes sense to me - they are a small business and probably would struggle to meet demands otherwise; however the attitude regarding how this is handled is problematic: There is a sign on the door saying that it is orders of 6 or more that must be placed in advance. So, my mother and I went in and requested 5 bagels (one for each of us and for our husbands, one for me the next day), we were then told rather coldly that the policy was only 3 bagels. When I asked about the posted policy, my point was dismissed and I was simply told I was wrong (I wasnt - I checked again on the way out). She then agreed to give us four bagels. My mother suggested that because we were two people we should be able to get 3 a piece based on the policy. The woman said that, no we were a party because we came in together and she was really only "allowing" us to get 4 when it should be 3. Each line was delivered with a fair amount of attitude even though we were polite the whole time. We are residents of Storrs and would love to become long-term customers and supporters of local business, but Im not convinced that a store that values its customers so little that it can treat them with such disdain deserves to stay in business.

This place would be incredible if the lady running the place didnt have such a toxic attitude. I come here almost 4 times a week, but no matter how many times I visit I get greeted with the most baffling rudeness Ive ever experienced at a restaurant. She almost seems pissed off that I would order a popular product. She always moans about not having things in stock and once directly accused me of lying to her face when I ordered to go and then changed my mind to eating in. Apparently, to her it is not her job to put hot sauce on my sandwich, and instead it should be me that does it myself and my ordering to go was just a ploy to get her to "waste her time and resources" putting hot sauce on it. I cant make this stuff up. If the food, that she doesnt even make mind you, (kudos to the champ in the kitchen that makes it, you deserve a raise buddy) wasnt so good this pace would be out of business in weeks. Even considering the quality of the food, it still baffles me how this witch of a woman is able to stay afloat. Save yourself the trouble and go to bruegers, the student workers there know how to treat a regular customer.

I tried to buy a dozen bagels, from this place. Apparently, that constitutes a "special" order that must be phoned in a few days in advance. Amazingly, she refused to sell me the bagels, instead reserving them for other more special customers. I would love to be running a business that, despite this economy, is doing so well I can afford not sell my product to people who try to buy it. The bagels are not great, but are the best in Storrs (read into that what you will). The cream cheese is good a plentiful. The shop is dingy and dirty.

Very rude customer service. The lady running the place has a very bad attitude towards her patrons. Was given wrong order twice, and when I went for a correction she told me it was "my fault". If you are looking for an average bagel, this is your spot. If you are looking for personnel who make you feel like theyre doing you a favor by making you food, this is your spot. If you are looking to be denied more than 1 bagel per person, this is your spot.

The woman taking our order accidentally forgot to put our order in because it was so busy. She was so nice and only took her 10mins to realize her mistake so she gave us two extra hash browns on the house!

Delicious bagels, the person behind the counter can be a little intimidating but its part of the experience. Youre not a uconn student if she hasnt yelled at you once.

An absolute necessity for lazy Sunday mornings. Try a bacon egg and cheese on one of the savory bagel options dipped in the spicy ketchup. Mmmm
