Worst service we have ever received. My coworkers and I were pretty excited to get a break from work and we chose sign of the whale for the rooftop seating. There were 8 of us, which isnt a huge party in my opinion. We get there and it takes about 20 minutes for the waitress to actually take our food order, but we were willing to overlook that. After over a half an hour our food was no where in sight. We had to get up and find the waitress, who informed us that a large party had ordered right before us but ensured that our food would be out in 10 minutes. 15 minutes later still nothing. We walk downstairs to see this "large party" and the entire restaurant has 15 people, tops. Though we do run into another group that tells us they had been waiting an hour as well. At this point we had been here for at least an hour, and in this entire time no one has come over to us and apologized for the delay. I go to find the waitress one more time and tell her my concern and that if we cannot get our food in 1 minute were leaving. She goes to the kitchen to check on it and comes back and tells us 10 more minutes. All we had ordered were burgers and wings, it should not have taken this long. When I tell her were leaving she says shell go get our drink bill, I looked at her shocked and asked if she really expected us to pay that. At that point she goes downstairs and has the manager comp them off the bill. We quickly left but one of my friends was so hungry that on our way out he ate leftover fries off a plate at an empty table. Thats what the service at Sign of the Whale drives you to do. I worked in the restaurant business as a server and I have always had the most patience for servers because of this, I know that a lot of what happens is not their fault. But this was ridiculous. 1 hour and 45 minutes later we left hungry and agitated. In that entire time the server never came to our table and updated us, we had to track her down every time. In that entire time the manager never came out and apologized to us. And in the end they did not even offer any compensation for what had happened and expected us to pay. There is no excuse for a restaurant that cant handle a lunch rush of 20 people. Obviously I will never be dining at Sign of the Whale again.

Is zero stars possible? I have lived in Stamford for many years and have been to basically every bar in the area. This is by far one of the trashiest bars I have ever visited. The music and views are good, but thats it. I have many issues with the establishment, but perhaps my main issue is that the security there is terrible. They do nothing, and I have watched security walk away from fights instead of breaking them up. I have watched individuals be jumped by groups, I have seen fights on so many occasions I cant count them on two hands (despicable). I have watched innocent bystanders try to break up a fight and be assaulted by 10+ people. I have seen people have their noses and jaws broken for just being there and saying the wrong thing to the wrong person. I have seen pretty much everything you do not want to see at this establishment. Its a hangout for thugs and wannabe gangbangers. And you know whats worse than the security? The police. They dont do a thing. They are lazy and incompetent. Its a joke. A JOKE! Patrons be ware. There are dozens of other places you can go to without having to feel intimidated where the bouncers will actually protect you, instead of encouraging and and turning a blind eye to things that should never happen to anyone. My two cents. Take it for what it is worth

Not even worth 1 star! I basically went in for a night out with a friend. As we were on the rooftop we had ordered drinks and the bartender who claimed to be the manager was the rudest, most disrespectful non-professional Id ever met. He basically watered our drinks down and then when we asked him to remake them he then gave us a snide remark and walked away with his hoody on like some sort of thug. I asked to then have 2 other drinks (way overpriced) which we paid for and his attitude was atrocious, I asked for the managers name thereafter and coincidentally he said he was one of them. What a Strange thing! To have a manager behave like a 16 year old who doesnt like his job. Overall this is not the place to go if your looking for good service and hospitable people. I could spend money elsewhere to be treated like a decent person. Also, the music is so loud you cant hold a decent conversation with anyone. They need NEW management!! Stay far away from here!!!

I havent had the food here, but Ive had a couple of drinks here and they were awful. I ordered a margarita and another drink off the specialty drink menu and both were awful. The margarita was so sour and the bartender used a lot of sour mix in the drink. It honestly hurt to drink. I visited the location this weekend for a second time with some friends and ordered a beer. The beer was actually EXPIRED! I couldnt believe it, and Im sure this may be common but I was shocked after realizing it. I told our waiter and he went back to the bar to see what the issue was. He quickly came back and asked if I wanted another beer. I ordered and about 25 minutes later my beer arrived. He said he went to call the distributor and wanted to get an answer, which I thought was super nice, but I wish I had my beer while he did this. It sucks, because its one of the few rooftop bars in Stamford and the location is amazing.

July 4th the wife and I went for lunch , first timers, we thought it was on the water but its not, its just in a parking lot with the water way off in the distance and once the construction is completed across the street you can say goodbye to any water view. Service stunk. One bartender whos obviously upset that hes working and one lazy busboy for the entire place. I ordered a roast beef sandwich, never do that again. Dry stale bread and three thick slices of dry RB that couldnt be eaten. I took one bite and left it, the bartender didnt ask me why I wasnt eating it. He just took it away and handed me the bill. I guess if you ask, you have to deal with it so why bother asking ..right. Wife had the crab cakes and theyre totally mushy on horrible bread. The only thing this dump has going for it is the open roof. Never again

Went there for drinks with some co-workers after work. Drinks were great. Bartender was fast and efficient. He new what he was doing and could handle a big group. We ordered a bunch of appetizers such as sliders, soft tacos, wings etc. I think the sliders were the best. Roomy place and they even happened to have a live singer Thursday evening which was a bonus. Tip: you can park around the corner in the building garage. Tell Security youre going to the restaurant.
