I just left Manjares in Westville and my entire experience was horrible. This was my first (and last) time there, and I wasnt sure if I was supposed to order at the counter or sit. I couldnt really distinguish who was working there, since the girl was sitting at the back counter with what seemed to be her friend. After awkwardly standing at the counter for a moment, the girl finally broke off her conversation with the other woman to acknowledge me. I asked a few questions about the food at the counter before ordering and the girl seemed annoyed with me right away. She served me my tea, and I took it back to my seat with me. I got up again to get honey or raw sugar for my tea. It was at a counter in the back where the girl who worked there was chatting with the other woman, who I thought was her friend, but after reading some of the other reviews, I figured she must be the owner. I was standing there trying to find honey when the woman asked if she could help me. Confused as to why the baristas friend would offer help, I asked for honey and the girl handed me Agave Nectar. Definitely not the same thing. My food came out quickly, and it was so gross. It was totally flavorless. I had their arepas, which were more like polenta, but really bland. Their bacon was undercooked and unreasonably greasy. The entire experience was really bad, from start to finish. I just wanted to leave. From the unfriendly, snobby service, the horribly bland food, to the terrible stomach ache I am now suffering, it was an overall bad experience and I wish I had gone to Bellas or Lenas.

I go to Manjares often for lunch. I have never been disappointed with my order and I have ordered plenty from the menu (just to name a few: eggs/spinach/bacon - if you want it well done - just ask!- hummus wrap, roasted turkey sandwich with cranberry mayo, oatmeal with the works, french toast, and more. Oh and I always eat a cookie! Whether its the chocolate chip or the heart shaped pastry - I love them. The owner is very friendly and the girl that works the counter may appear stand off ish as she is on the quieter side, but I continue to go there day after day during the week and she is hospitable and accommodating. This is a more relaxed environment so if you are looking for someone to put a napkin on your lap go elsewhere, you may be too uptight for all of us.

Recently i decided to stop in to Manjares on my way through Westville as Id heard a lot about it. It was clean inside and well decorated. I was disappointed though, the service was lackluster and slow. (Im not sure if it was the time of day or what as the line that was inside at the register was moving at a snails pace.) When I finally did get to the counter the staff was curt and obviously bothered by the few quick questions i wanted to ask before I made my purchase. The pastries i got were decent and the tart i got had reasonably fresh fruit but for the premium price they charged I felt that I was left with a decidedly "meh" experience. There are many other small cafes and bakeries in New Haven with a better product for the money and much better service.

Walking in the aroma was quite delightful, I enjoyed the quaint and urban development of building a high class restaurant around a low income area. The menu consists of various organic and gluten free fusion delights. After ordering at the counter we enjoyed the various art with a liberal taste in mind. While waiting an hour for our food we observed others from many different economic classes. When the food finally arrived, it looked scrumptious; however it was not. Overall it gave my wife and I a very "Meh" experience. If you enjoy an artsy and decorative atmosphere; but can tolerate below average tasting food, then this is the place for you.

And now theyre doing WINE & TAPAS (Thurs-Sat only)!!! In the evening youll find an immediately relaxing but also elegant candle-lit space with a casual, inviting atmosphere. The owner Anna is delightful and her family greet you warmly at every visit. Come back a couple of times and you feel like family yourself. During the day it transforms into its original role of a neighborhood coffee shop with perfect coffee, an awesome place for breakfast or lunch. Farm-fresh local market food. The food is always heavenly. And its extremely kid friendly. Can you tell I love this place?

If Im not at the office, well, i am here. I guess that says it all... For that reason, I may not a have a job for long, which is sad, because that means no more Do-Re-Mi to spend at Manjares. :) My opinion on Manjares: In a nutshell, Manjares is a local, Southern Euro style café, with a familial atmosphere, and a Latin-American soul, plus decor. My suggestion: Dont be shy, and order the tuna.

I have been to Manjares a lot and I love it. The owners are wonderful and keep improving the place all the time, for example planting flowers around the ouside seating area. The coffee is the best in this part of town and Annas fruit tarts are pieces of art. We also ordered a birthday cake a while ago, that was absolutely delicious (chocolate!!) and reasonably priced. Two thumbs up for Manjares!

Wonderful family coffee house with Latin-style breakfasts, afternoon sandwiches, and evening tapas. A great, casual space for families and friends and the unofficial board room for many local organizations. Two rooms... One is more traditionally a restaurant setup. The other is a wide space with comfy couches and large group tables. Relaxed, friendly service.

I personally was very disappointed I oder a cake ahead of time the owner said it will be ready a certain time I arrive late and they make me wait 20 minutes for it . They gave an attitude and tried to make excuses why the cake was late. I heard other people complaining about the same thing, she is very irresponsible.

Awesome coffee shop. Fabulous breakfasts with french toast, omelets, pastries, etc. The entrance is actually on West Rock Ave. across from Edgewood Park. The owners are always there, and the atmosphere is warm and cozy.

Nice quiet spot for breakfast or brunch. The French toast was good and the fresh orange juice was good as well.
