I was very pleased with my experience at Kumo Hibachi Steakhouse in New Haven! I went while I was on a trip to New Haven. Me and my friends ordered sushi, it was a Monday night so all sushi was half-price (as it is every night and all day Sunday). Surprisingly, since the prices were so low (around 50$ for 4 hungry people), the quality and variety of the sushi was excellent! Nice presentation, modern decor and friendly service too! Dunno why the restaurant was almost empty... But that meant the service was also very fast. Highly recommend!

For a Saturday night at a sushi/hibachi restaurant...this place was dead. Hibachi had one full party and my wife and I were one of three couples in the dining area away from hibachi. Staff was fine. Nothing to praise or thumb my nose at. Menu is huge. A lot to pick from. Having said that...the sushi was just ok. With the lack of others in the place I thought wed get our food quick. That wasnt the case. Overall three stars is generous. I would go back but not until I visit others in the New Haven area to compare.

Thank god I found a real Japanese sushi place in New Haven. I did my undergraduate in Davis, California where there are at least a dozen good sushi places within a 5 block radius. After moving out here, I was terrified that I would never have good sushi again. I was wrong. Kumo has the best sashimi / traditional Japanese rolls, which is surprisingly comparable in quality and taste to the places Ive been to back in the Bay Area. Also, the 50% off Sundays are outrageously awesome.

Make sure you double check the total on your check! I went there for half price sushi and they charged me a different price as compared to what they had on the menu. When I confronted them, they were very rude and told me that they didnt have time to update the menu. So apparently the prices that they charge are simply made up and not based on the menu.... Never going back again!!

My favorite sushi place in New Haven. Miyas is good for unique sushi, Chapel is good for high end sushi, but Kumo is good for typical sushi and has some fancier options if you want. The sushi is great, the staff is great, prices are great as well. Staff will remember you if you come regularly as well which is uncommon these days. Mixed drinks are also pretty good!

Make sure to make a reservation on Sat/Sundays because it does get packed other than that the price for the sushi is extremely affordable and its made well. The place is extremely big so you can pick where to sit if youd like/ when it isnt really packed. Also the Hibachi is extremely fun so I definitely recommend people to do that if youd get the chance.

I came here with my two friends. We were greeted with a dirty look from a woman employee which was very rude but other than that, our waitress was very nice. She was patient even though we took a long time when we were deciding what to order. The prices are fair and the food is beautiful and fantastic. The sushi is delightful. I will be returning!

Food is good. They Got rid of half price sushi and doubled the prices. For these prices I should get a happy ending every time but it never came This attempt to be an upscale fine dining is not interesting to me. This place used to be packed and now Im sitting here with one other party. Shame...

I cant speak to the Hibachi part of the restaurant, but the Sushi half of the restaurant is very nice. Very good Sushi and very good variety which was brought pretty quickly once ordered. Staff was fairly attentive (did forget a thing or two) but was very good overall.

Call it a selling point, but the forever special of 50% always has me going back because the sushi is darn good and the rolls presented at the table are artisan quality! The colors alone are salivating. Service is hit or miss, but overall, its worth any minor hiccup.

Their lunch specials are among my favorite in New Haven; the shrimp tempura bento box is particularly good. Service is quick and charming, and the decor is comfortably restrained with some quirks here and there. It has some character.

Personally, not good. Japanese food shouldnt be made by Chinese people. Not being racist....but its true. Chinese food is all about QUANTITY, Japanese food is all about QUALITY. just a personal opinion.

Hibachi is fun and awesome. Its part of the experience to pay for the show. This place is great because it also has sushi! More choices!
