If you like flavorless food with a long wait. This is your place. Stay home and cook your own Lobster and Steak. The place is nothing special. You Clean your own table. The waitress was unattentive. No seasoning on food at all. The clams were like rubber. The lobster tasted washed out and overcooked. The ribeye steak was charred and had no seasoning whatsoever. I have been to much better clam bakes. Everything is cooked over a fire. Heat up your grill at home and forget wasting a trip to that place. If you want great steak and lobster go to the nearest Ruth Chris or capital Grille in Hartford Connecticut. Beautiful restaurant and you get what you pay for awesome delicious food. There were four of us who went and not one of us was happy with our food. I actually had to get up from my table walk over to the waitress an hour later and ask where my food was. She didnt come to my table once and say Im sorry for the wait etc. I just dont get why so many people go there. The only thing about this place is the uniqueness that there are tables with stumps all around them. It is basically like going camping and everything is served on paper plates.

Such a fun spot for the warmer months! We stop by at least once each year. Simple backyard barbecue feel with foods that match. Their seafood dishes are delicious but can we talk about the corn? Oh man. We try emulating the smoky taste of their corn back home over our fire pit, sadly to no avail. Lol For those who havent heard of the place or driven by- you literally "put your rump on a stump" they have a variety of table sizes all surrounded by tree stump seats- all outdoor seating so bring a jacket if youre one who is always cold. You can BYOB, I think they might have soda but we usually get water. Good place to go for a relaxing low key barbecue style meal. Its a dining experience unlike any other around.

RUSTIC, OUTDOOR SPOT THAT OFFERS DELICIOUS, FRESH SEAFOOD. THEY ENCOURAGE YOU TO BRING YOUR OWN BOTTLE OF WINE, BEER, ETC. YOU CAN ALSO BRING YOUR OWN SIDES, LIKE SALAD, OR ANYTHING THEY DONT SELL, BCUZ THEY OFFER A LIMITED NUMBER OF SIDES. SEE MENU BOARD TO BE SURE. YOU MUST TRY THE CORN ON THE COB. I CAN NEVER EAT JUST ONE! I ALWAYS BRING A SMALL CONTAINER OF OLD BAY SEASONING & A SMALL CONTAINER OF GARLIC TO MAKE MY MEAL ABSOLUTELY EXQUISITE! WE BRING OUR OWN WINE & 99 CENT TABLE CLOTH, & OUR TABLE IS ALWAYS GORGEOUS! DONT FORGET TO BRING A CITRONELLA CANDLE& SOME SKIN SO SOFT BUG REPELLANT!EMPLOYEES ARE PLEASANT.

This Restaurant is worth the trip. I took a 2 hour drive to try it out...and would do it again, (and again). The food was absolutely delicious, melted in your mouth. We had the lobster, rib-eye steak, mussels, clams, roasted corn and Mississippi mud pie. YUM-YUM. Very rustic atmosphere so dress comfortably. You can bring extra side dishes and are allowed to bring beer, wine and cocktails. We saw people who, (obviously regulars), brought round table clothes, mixed drinks, even their dogs. The prices are very reasonable and the service was quick and with a smile.

The food here was delicious. We ordered corn and lobster. The corn was nicely grilled and came out before the lobster. It was my first time eating lobster, and while Im no later expert, I can say that this was very juicy and tender. If I return, Id really like to try the clams, as I saw others eating them and they looked delicious. Other families brought crackers and wine, but if youre coming from the beach like I was, you can order soda or Snapple at The Place. The service was great and the atmosphere was everything I hoped it would be!

The Place is hands-down one of my favorite restaurants. Its simplicity is exactly what makes it great, and this is almost as simple as it can get. There is a giant wood fire grill that the staff prepares all the food on. And then there are wooden stumps as seats surrounding each table where you will eat that delicious grilled food. All the seating is outdoors, and everything adds up to a wonderful time. Its also BYOB, so be prepared!

Very unique to sit on tree stumps (chairs avalable for those who need them) and watch your food being grilled for you. Menu has seafood, meats, and vegetables. It is outside but you can sit under the tent top in the shade or pick a table that isnt under it. Wheelchair accessible but the ground is covered in brocken clamshells so rolling may be a little tough. The food is great, staff helpful, and priced at about average.

Waited 20 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge us. Food was good but by the time I was done I wished I had stayed home instead of driving 40 minutes each way. The service was horrible. Our waitress brought us the check and we sat there waiting for change while she ate a steak at the table behind us with her friends. Needless to say, we never got change and left a check, and went home. Wont be back again.

A great summer experience! Dine outdoors while they prepare your seafood on an open fire. You cant go wrong with a roasted lobster, but the roast clams with the special cocktail sauce are what they are known for. Its BYOB so grab some ice cold beers, get a dozen clams, lobster, and some buttery corn on the cob. This place is a legend in Connecticut. Ah, summers ....

Definitely a unique place. Worth a stop. If you arent local, you should know you could bring your own sides and a cooler with beer/ wine. It would have been good to know this. Also, bring seasonings and sauces. The food is great tho. Loved the corn. Were from Tennessee, and stopped on our way thru. Would have brought stuff if we knew!

Awesome place and awesome food. If youre expecting a fine dining experience go somewhere else, but if youre looking for super causal this is your spot! BYOB cash or check only, but theres an ATM . The clams are so fresh that theres a little sand/sea in there. Recommend the roasted lobster and the clam special!

One of my all time FAVORITE spots!!!! Phenomenally simple, yet AWESOME. Since 1971 The Place has been serving up a simple short menu - in a simple, cool outdoor spot. Wonderful #clams casino and #LOBSTER - make sure to bring in your own appetizers, munchies and drinks and it is just plain simple fun, fun fun!

This place is great for large groups or intimate get togethers. Good prices, great food and you bring your own sides, desserts and drinks! Also, a cushion if you dont want to sit on a tree stump for that long! Always have fun there. Ps bug spray but do it before you get there. Only polite. :)

BYO-alcohol, and sides. But those are not what youre here for. This place has great barbecued New England seafood. We ordered the roasted corn, clams and salmon--everything was deliciously juicy and tender. Especially the corn. You dont get corn this soft and sweet elsewhere!
