I went out to dinner with my wife and was greatly disappointed. I had the surf and turf. . . Both the steak (which I ordered medium rare) and the lobster tail were criminally overcooked; the lobster tail had crunchy pieces and the steak was at least well done. I had to wait several 10 minutes (more on that in a bit) to ask to have a steak knife so I could eat. My wifes grouper picata was much better but not anything to write home about. The service was slow, when our server was trying, and despite the two unsolicited apologies about the delays, nothing got better. There was only one choice of oyster (which were admittedly pretty good). It was also a very expensive meal for what we had. And on top of all this, the bar was out of olives (how does that even happen?). We may try again because of the other positive reviews, but due to the price, poor service, and sub-par food, I wouldnt recommend this place. We gave two stars, one for the grouper and the other for the oysters.

Kind of a mixed bag. We ordered a few things. The truffle fries were excellent, but large. Id recommend not ordering them if its only two people. Youll probably eat too much of them and ruin your meal. Not sure if this is a bad thing or not, but they are tasty fries. I ordered a house salad, which was good and clam chowder, which was the blandest chowder I have ever had. I sent it back. Even with added pepper it just had zero taste. The person I was with had the wings. He said they were kind of dry. I will say this: after sending back my chowder the server was very professional about it. He offered me something else, which I declined (the fries were enough). The manager then followed up with me and thanked me for letting me know the chowder was bland. He said he tasted it and agreed. Maybe he did, maybe he didnt, but either way they handle complaints very well there which is a huge plus in my book. Give them a shot, perhaps youll find something you like.

Ive been here twice now, and the best word that I can use to describe it is "inconsistent." The first time, we had excellent food and a great service. The server was helpful in recommending a bottle of wine and all four meals were delicious. We even ordered desert (see uploaded picture), which is unusual for us. The second time though was quite the opposite. Our server was inattentive at best. Two of the four meals had mistakes from the kitchen and even after the mistakes were corrected the food wasnt very good. The roast beef in my wifes French Dip was fatty. My fish was bland and full of bones (I removed at least a dozen). My sons snow crab legs were cooked well, but lacking in flavor (hes loves snow crab legs and has a lot of previous experience to compare them to). Based on our first experience I would give them a 5 and based on our second I would give them a 1, so I guess that averages to a 3. Overall, I would be hesitant to return.

We tried again tonight September 2nd, Max grill, because I got a gift card from one of my student who I had mention to that I loved your patio in the summer.. The ribbs dish and coleslaw with some truffle fries was perfect, my order of the crab cakes was poor, 3 very small crab cakes rather burnt with a touch of tomato sauce and very unappetizing... Service was perfect!!! .We had not been back because of poor service for mother.s day brunch and an upset for another time for dinner , lobster and a sirloin steak which to our taste should have been served with a small tenderloin..... My husband likes a strong vodka tonic....which is always very weak. It is our last trip this time..... Thank you:) Francoise Roberts.

My girlfriend and I went into this restaurant last Sunday and well probably greeted buy a gentleman who took us to our table and actually said were glad youre here. Now thats something you dont hear all the time right? Our server Josh can your table within a minute of a sitting down and was very upbeat Pleasant to deal with and just a happy guy. The food was incredible ! From the appetizers we had to the entrees to the desert everything was just right. We went in for Restaurant Week and now well go back as regular guests of this restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody. Thanks Josh you made it fun and you got everything to us in a very timely manner. Cant wait to go back. Dave H.

Been here a few times...last time we were here we had a groupon, my phone was dead, but our server took the discount off without confirming that we actually had it. He was soo nice and attentive!!!.. And the most recent time, we went for a happy hour, and we had the same server, his name is Will. He is such a good server, he was checking on us every so often, he made sure we were taken care of. I dont write reviews unless Im displeased. Our motto is: if it is good we will go back, and not write a review..but our experience has been so good that we had to write a review and we will be definitely back very soon! Love the food and the atmosphere!!!! You guys should definitely check it out!

Got a $50 Groupon to use but wouldnt go back again. The clam chowder was great, and my husband love the halibut. However I ordered the fish and chips and it was mushy and had too much breading. The manager came by to ask how our meal was and I let him know I wasnt impressed, he said he would take it off the ticket, but only took off 50%. I took one bite and stopped eating, so that didnt make sense to me. He said he would do this because their kitchen was really behind, and it would take a while to get something else out, ultimately I had to get full on salad and cheesecake and then had to pay for what I didnt eat. But the Caesar salad and creme brulee cheesecake were delicious!

The food was hit or miss. We had the corn and crab chowder which was far and above anything we have eaten in a long time. I literally made a noise out loud when I tasted it because it was so good. Then we had the crab dip which we did not like at all. It seemed like it had a whole can of Old Bay in it. Next we shared the peel and eat shrimp. We ordered the traditional style but they came out covered in Old Bay. Since this was the third dish with the same flavoring in it, the meal did begin to feel a little dull. I do want to point out that the wait staff was fantastic and very quick to accommodate us when we said we didnt like the crab dip.

Max Gill and Grill has an awesome HH, try their oyster Monday if its your thing because they get some of the best and freshest oysters in town! Their regular menu just changed and has some delicious options as well as a great beer and cocktail menu. The atmosphere is probably one of my favorite things. They have many different sections of the restaurant to suit any party or style; theres a back bar and patio that are pretty sweet! Also, they always play great music! Nestled in the heart of downtown Wash Park, this place is a wonderful neighborhood addition!
