Back when I used to work the downtown area, I would always see this little red awning next to the Burger King on Colfax. I always told myself that one day I was gonna be adventurous and try it. Something about it just made me think there was something good inside the rough exterior. One of the first things I noticed was how clean and neat the steam table was. Not a drop of sauce spilled over the side. You can tell the owners take pride in what they hand you through that window. One day I convinced a couple coworkers to give it a shot, we were always looking for something new to eat. Im glad they agreed. It became a favorite lunch spot for us. We would eat there at least once a week for the whole summer. Now that I dont work downtown anymore, I have a lot farther to drive to get there, but sometimes Ill go downtown for no other reason than to get a Combination #1. Bourbon Chicken, 2 sides and a drink. For what you get, the price is unbeatable. The container feels like it weighs 2 or 3 pounds. A huge portion of grilled chicken in a bourbon sauce, piled on top of steamed white rice. Two side dishes.....my favorite is the mac and cheese. And Im not a big mac and cheese fan. But I sometimes get a tingling in my mouth for this stuff. They also have other good sides, like Cajun sauteed potatoes, spicy noodles and others. They also have a good selection of sandwiches, none of which I have tried because the Bourbon chicken has me addicted, but Ive heard that theyre awesome as well. Maybe Ill get one next time. Dont be afraid of trying something from a hole in a wall on Colfax, youd be surprised and might find yourself coming back again and again.

Hot damn I love this place. #1 Combo is their bourbon chicken and Ive never ordered anything else, Im pretty sure its the kind of place where youre not Supposed to order anything else. As others have mentioned, you get a LOT of food for $8.50. Its very easily two meals that they stuff into that styrofoam box, 3 if youre a light eater. What youll get is wonderfully charred boneless skinless chicken thighs (there seriously has to be about 4-5 in the box Im eating now), two sides (I always go with the cajun potatos (nice and spicy), mac n cheese, or green beans which are fresh not canned). Try to bring cash if you have it, it helps them out and saves you a 35 cent convenience fee. I havent run across the dry chicken problem others have mentioned, but wonder if it has something to do with when you go - I always do lunch there. Guy up front is nice, and you can see straight into the kitchen which is kept clean.

When I give 1 stars its not because the food is horrible, its actually really good food however they are not the most sensitive to peoples time. BEWARE when thinking youll just stop to grab a bite to eat, Its not that easy the time you wait for your food is more like a sit down dining experience even if it looks like they arent busy dont be fooled the Asian man that is often in there alone moves like a tortoise and they arent very apologetic about it. to sum it up the food is great but they really dont value their customers. I spent 20 min in line behind 4 people and was not even able to place an order after I saw how long it took him to fulfill one order I realized my lunch hour would be over by time I got the food. If they truly value their business they would not leave that Asian man in there alone during lunch hour ....NO EXCEPTIONS

Food itself is OK (maybe 2.5 - 3/5 stars), but damn sure NOT great by any stretch of the imagination! Its the rest that warrant the 1 star review: the whole area smells like a damn dumpster, tables out front are dirty, flies everywhere and bums are wandering all around (not BGs fault, but still, doesnt make for a great experience). ...And lets talk about the whole parking thing: *its a total joke!* Mind you, I never personally had any bad experience parking there (there are meters across the street), but the signs about "you will be booted in 15 seconds! Towed in 20 secs! Hes hiding behind the bush waiting"...yeah, so fing rude its literally comical! Bottom line: this place is very much OVERRATED.

VERY slow service. Waited more than half an hour for two sandwiches and neither had fully melted cheese or fully cooked onions. Overpriced for street food served to you by an older gentleman who wishes he could be anywhere but here and serving anyone besides a millenial. Watched at least 5 orders come out before ours that had been put in after ours (which I wouldnt have minded if they were easier assembled things than our sandwiches but a couple came up after us and ordered the same thing WITH MORE SIDES and got their food first.) Guy had to be reminded that he hadnt given us a drink. Generally incredibly poor and ill-mannered service.

Gourmet this is not, but its solid street food. Im in Denver for work and staying right around the corner. Theres always a line so I decided to try. I took other reviewers advice and got the #1 Boubon Chicken combo. For $8, I made THREE full meals from this plate! And thats not all, the chicken tasted like something I would grill in my own back yard at home. Delicious! The cajun potatoes were great too, but I threw the cabbage away. It was bland and Im Southern, so Im used to it being cooked and seasoned well. Next time I will double up on potatoes. Im here for a few more weeks and I will definitely be back.

Dont judge a book by its cover is the best review that Bourbon Grill can get. The red awning displaying Cheez Steaks and Bourbon Chicken may be something the average eater may find off-putting, but there is a wealth of deliciousness hidden behind that tiny window on Colfax. Although I havent actually tried anything other than Combination #1 (Bourbon Chicken) and a sandwich or two over the years, I have to say, these folks know how to do it right. Affordable prices and large portions make this place a wonderful respite from the grind of lunchtime boredom.

If you think the Bourbon Grill looks like a hole in the wall...youd be right! Theres commonly a 20-30 minute wait during the lunch & dinner rush and oftentimes with homeless folk soliciting people for change or food it may seem like more trouble than its worth. You would be mistaken though, because people put up with it for its excellent food at reasonable prices. Highly recommended, one of the best eateries in all of Denver if you judge it strictly on the quality of the food. Theres not much of an experience otherwise.

They give you SO MUCH FOOD. Yeah, its not as cheap as youd expect, but its enough food for three meals. Their rice is like kettle corn. Their spicy noodles? damn. And dont even get me started on the mac n cheese. Stay away from the steamed cabbage unless you keep a salt shaker on you at all times. I might be in love with this place...And the people who work there. The guy who gave me a free noodle sample might be my soul mate. I dont think he understood a word I said, but something just clicked between us, ya know?
