DISASTROUS EXPERIENCE. I have eaten here on many occasions, but never again will I set foot in this restaurant. It was the worst dining experience I have ever had, save one unfortunate incidence in a BBQ restaurant in Florida that involved questionable sources of meat. They sat us down at a table that fit four tightly (we were a party of five). The server spilled water on my lap and on my bread plate without apologizing. The ordering was without fault, but after that everything went downhill. We asked for water for my youngest child 4 times before receiving water for him, which came 10 minutes after our meal arrived. I asked for my wine three times before it arrived as a white instead of a red, 10 minutes after our meal arrived (though it was ordered at the same time as the food). My actual cabernet arrived 15 minutes after my steak. The waiter was nice enough to leave the white wine for my wife for free. The kids drinks arrived 10 minutes after the food. My sons cheeseburger was bloody pink. Who serves rare hamburger to children? Marigold Cafe does. My steak and my wifes sea bass were fine, ruined only by the atrocious service and my steak knife which was bent in the middle by 20 degrees. That actually made me laugh. I honestly thought it was funny but truly not in keeping with a nice restaurant. There was so little room at our table that we stacked non-essentials such as an old bread basket on the elevated window sill. Though this was certainly an eye sore for the restaurant, no one bothered to offer to clear it. Except for a left over specials menu that was taken as they did not have enough plain white paper printed special menus. This was but one example of cheap cost cutting that we experienced here. They took the piece of paper and left all the other junk on the window sill. My three year old never eats much of anything so we asked for an extra plate so he could have a bite of my sons burger. They brought out a plate that looked to be 15 inches in diameter. WE HAD NO ROOM AS IT WAS! What were they thinking? He of course did not eat the raw meat. We hurried through our meal just to end it. But because it was my daughters birthday, we ordered dessert (to go). We should have checked it before leaving of course. Two of the four desserts were the wrong item. My daughter threw her birthday dessert away as it was not what she ordered and, quite frankly, tasted not so great. The waiter must have recognized some fault as he did not charge us for my wine or for the kids drinks. This hardly excuses the pathetic service. I would have much rather paid $20 more and had a reasonable meal. On the way out, I told the manager that the table was unacceptably small. She agreed and apologized stating that they were overbooked (we did have a reservation many days in advance). I did not mention that I thought our waiter was responsible for too many tables (he obviously was). It appears to me that management is trying to squeeze more money out of what used to be a solid restaurant. I am sure that Marigolds had a stellar night making lots of money, but they lost a customer for life.

This is my new favorite place! From the outside it seems like a simple bakery and cafe and you wouldnt suspect that inside has linens cloths, beautiful flowers and gorgeous culinary desserts on display at the entrance. The food is wonderful! I would say amazing for what I have ordered so far. Here is the run down on my meals: Steak Frites- OMG so good and HUGE portions which makes the price more reasonable in the end. The steak was tender and while cooked rarer than I usually order; it was perfect. The sauce had layers of flavor, and I could not stop eating it. It was topped with lots of crispy, flavorful, yukon potato spirals that I dipped in the sauce...yeah I want more right now! On the side was a variety of steam vegetables: green beans, broccoli, and roasted red peppers. I have also had the half chicken for lunch. SO good! The outside is crispy with garlic rosemary seasoning if my memory is correct and the inside is juicy and packed with flavor. The dipping sauce just makes the chicken even better which is hard to believe. I couldn’t decide if I should eat it with or without the sauce for they were both delicious. Lastly, I have tried their crab cakes and Asian salad. It was very good! I had never ordered crab cakes before so I don’t have a comparison, but I would order those again, and I am not a big sea food person. It was recommended to me by someone who does love crab cakes and said these were awesome. My husband ordered the shrimp angel hair marinara pasta. He ate every bite and the portions were generously sized. And lastly, the reason I go to Marigolds since I am a dessert buff…The Crème Brulee dessert! I don’t even have words to describe how it hits the spot every time. If I were younger, I would be eating two each time because it is that good. The manager or owner, (as my husband suspected), greeted us patiently at our table and again on the way out. You can see the care he has towards this restaurant. That is what makes all the elements run so smoothly. I have only been able to go three times so far and we have been seated and serviced timely each visit. With the quality of service and food declining at restaurants these days, it is great to see this tiny place near the hills raising the bar on quality, elegance and service.

We at there on a Tuesday evening, and were surprised by how crowded it was. We arrived about 10 minutes early for our reservation and were seated immediately. That was nice. Then it went down. Bread arrived but there was no side plates to put it on. We ordered “crab cakes” as an appetizer and 2 balls about the size of a golf ball arrived. One of the cakes was stone cold. The waiter brought a new order, and it was hotter, but there still was a cold spot in the center. The crab cakes contained very little crab. There was a lot of salmon and other fillers in the ball, but not much crab. We mentioned this to the waiter and he acknowledged that it really is not a “crab” cake. It is more like a seafood ball. Very disappointing considering what they charge for crab cakes. For the main entrée, I had the fettuccini jambalaya. It was good overall, but the shrimp although large, were rubbery. The sausage had a nice flavor. If the shrimp was not like rubber, I would recommend this. Another member had the seafood special, and they were disappointed with the meal also. The shrimp were about the size of a quarter and they said that they tasted like they came out of a can. All of the seafood in the special was very small, and the whole dish was swimming in a curry base. They would not recommend this dish. The last person in the party had the red snapper which was very good as agreed upon by all. Overall, I was disappointed in this restaurant.
