You expect service when you go out to eat, and Im a big fan of voting with my wallet.... so this is my vote - to go anywhere but here. Ive eaten here a couple of times. The food is so-so. On Friday I was craving a steak and martini. The Valley Inn is close to home. When I walked in at about 6:30 the bar was full (and by full I mean about 8 people), so I approached the host stand to ask for a table. Nobody was there, but a big guy with a eastern-European accent approaches me. He stares me down for a second - then I say, "Hi, just 1." He stands there for another second - seemingly evaluating if I was worthy of a table (the dining room was mostly empty.) Then says something like "well, ok." PHEW! I was accepted! He takes me to the back to a small booth -but thats fine, Im by myself. So I sat in the small booth.... and sat...and sat.....and sat....and sat... for more than 20 minutes while I was ignored. Other parties walked in, sat down and their drink orders immediately taken. One group even got their appetizers. And I sat. And it wasnt like they didnt see me. The big guy and a young bus boy kept looking at my table, yet I would just sit..... and sit..... and sit. After the fourth party was seated nearby and promptly tended-to figured the Valley Inn doesnt like parties of one - or doesnt like me - but whatever the case I wasnt going to stay and figure it out. I got up and left, and on the way out told the big guy, "its a pleasure to be ignored for 20 minues." His response, "Whaaaaaa???" Classy. So I guess you could gather your big group together and head on over to the Valley Inn - Im sure big-guy will seat you quickly. Or, better yet - dont.

I dont know what to say, this was the third time I had been to this restaurant and the service was absolutely dreadful. We came for my friends birthday dinner and he has been there many times over a long period and it was his favorite place. He lives on a budget and always brings the coupons the restaurant puts out, even though it is supposedly the place of the stars and the wealthy. He always brings a bottle and on this occasion we were served by one of the owners a women named Victoria. The first thing out of her mouth was "There will be a $15 corkage fee," I mean it literally snapped out of her mouth, it shocked me. My friend had pre-ordered Lobster Thermador several days before, this was a planned dinner, totally rude. Then to make matters worse two other people at the table wanted to split their largest cut of prime rib, and immediately the server says, there is an extra charge for that. To me a person who comes in to a fine establishment should have a nice greeting like, "hey how are you," and on a special occasion we are not worried about the extra charges. There were other things that were just as rude, from this person and the food arrived warm. Hey on a $202 dollar bill we left her $5. My friend always tips 20% on good service and food, but not this time, " Bon Appetite."

we were in LA for christmas and a few months after... so for christmas dinner, we got take out from valley inn...it was one of the best meals we had eaten since being in the area, turkey, dressing and all the trimmings...EVERYTHING was excellent and tho the price was extremely high, well, it was christmas, and everything else in the area was equally expensive if you could find something opened at all, so it was a very festive, yummy and comforting meal... months later, we were hungry, in the area one evening, and thought we would pop in and have a repeat of christmas dinner...no such luck...the food was unexciting and mediocre and the prices were high... the atmosphere is nice, quaint and historic, the service was very friendly, but the food tasted like prefabricated frozen, warmed over and unappealing...there was a child making a lot of noise in the adjoining dining room. the salad was nice, the decor was historic and fun to look at, like a museum. seemed like there were lots of regulars there, so maybe other items on the menu were better than our choice (we had steak)

I am in a food buzz altered state! LOL...I think I now know how a baby feels when it gets that drunken sleepy happy look on its face after nursing...the food haze! Thank you The Valley Inn in San Fernando Valley for once again surpassing our expectations of an amazing mouth melting dinner. Sophia and Boris, the owners, always have a personal word for every visitor and their servers are an awesomely quaint bunch! I love the dim lights, the booth seating and the conversation this place holds. As for the food...they deserve awards for it all! I cannot name one favorite at this restaurant, from their appetizers (bruschetta comes to mind!) to their dinners (tonight was their crab cake topped Filet Mignon Oscar!) to their to die for desserts (gluten free cake, their Limoncello or their omg carrot cake!)....and the list goes on! I even once braved trying their escargot!!!! Heres to many years to come to a fabulous restaurant!!!

This is really hard review as I go between a 3 and a 4 stars. They have really good food the prices were great and I had two lobster tails as the special. Our issue was with the service. We had a waitress who seemed to be pissed off and annoyed whenever we asked a question until she figured out we were trying to buy more food and then she was nice after that. In fact, when she walked by and I tried to get her attention she snapped at me, "Ive put in all of your order!" Then I said - would it be possible to get that shrimp coctail? and she was very nice after that. I would definitely give it a shot if youre in the valley. I hear that their fried chicken is amazing. If you do want to get the fried chicken make sure you call ahead and tell them as it takes 45 minutes for the chicken itself.

Beyond Expectations! This restaurant was a suggestion from the hotel nearby. Not wanting to drive we opted to try it. Boy, are we glad we did. First off the service was EXCEPTIONAL!!!!! Secondly the food was SUPERB! In short it was a great time for us and our guests. Anyone who goes must understand its definitely an "old school" type restaurant. Its not flashy or trendy, The food is traditional but not dated or stodgy. Service was very prompt and attentive and courteous. The wine and bar service was perfect too. Probably the best thing is this is a local restaurant. We felt part of the community while dining here. When in the area we will most definitely make a point of stopping by for another great experience. THANK YOU!

I have been there many times because I like the old school ambience of the place. But they really need to work on their service and food prep. They charge a lot of money for a dinner, but give you a baked potato with nothing on it dry, nothing on the side. I used to love their Ahi appetizer, but all of a sudden its a third of the size, and the same price! Mine was served with out rice at all, and when I complained I got nothing but attitude from both owners. They finally gave me half off the appetizer price, but come on people what happened to customer service?
