Melinda (yes, that Melinda!) and I lunched at Celias today. We wanted to find a good to great Mexican restaurant near our new house and we think Celias may be it. We were late for lunch (2p) and found a mostly empty restaurant. We ordered our entrees, snacked on fresh tortilla chips, and took in the atmosphere. The interior has an adobe feeling to it, as one I guess expects at a Mexican restaurant. Soon our lunches arrived, on 16" platters covered to the edges (to be fair, the rice and beans covered their fair share of surface area). The food was very good, not novel or amazing, but "very good" is what were looking for. Well be back, were sure.

Horrible and rude girl server out there. Food is nowhere near authentic mexican food. Dry dry rice, dry tortillas etc. Pick anything chicken, beef, crab, etc., food feels like dry and stapled. Been here many times as its like walking distance to where I stay when in San Mateo, but never got out with decent food.

Celias food is okay, its not great Mexican. Pancho Villa and La Cumbre offer better food and location. But neither offer table service and parking is a little tricky, so we usually opt for Celias. Plus Celias provides a balloon for my daughter after dinner which is an incentive for good dinner behavior!

I tough I knew all about burritos but when I tried their burrito it was amazing delicious I wasnt that hungry but it was so good that ifinnised all all seems to be very fresh and staff is polite as well

You want actual Mexican restaurant food? Like from the neighborhood place when you were a kid and burritos werent political statements and salsa was called "hot sauce"? Thats Celias.
