$25 for 6 thin slices of beef and 6 pieces of unfresh frozen shrimp...fk,I would need at least 3 orders to feed myself. The waiters treated me like a tourist, acted like he is a Japanese and cant understand English well, even asked me to pay by cash but all other people could pay with cards.

Came here a week after its opening and it was already pretty busy. We came here at around 6:30PM on a Monday and were seated within 15 minutes. The layout is a bit weird with a huge space in the middle so hopefully they plan to add more tables. BF ordered the extra spicy ramen while I got the tonkotsu black garlic broth with a side of pork belly and spicy paste. We both agreed that the tonkotsu broth was much better. The highlight of the night was the pork belly and chashu though. Both were super tender, which was beyond delicious. The extra spicy paste wasnt really spicy to me even though I was warned to put it in a little at a time. Ended up dunking half of the serving in and I didnt think it tasted that much different. Even though the noodles were good, I prefer the thicker type and Yamadayas is thin like angel-hair pasta. Thats personal preference though. Yamadaya definitely went beyond my expectations. I didnt really expect much from this new place but its definitely the best ramen place Ive tried in J-town. Excited to go again.

I came here on a Friday for lunch with 3 friends. We waited for about 10 minutes and was looking in through the window and noticed a lot of people didnt have their food yet. After we were seated my friends all got the #1 TONKOTSU RAMEN and one of my friends got the spicy ramen +extra spicy for 50 cents. When the ramen came I saw right away that it was super milky, creamy, and looked flavorful. I also had the extra chashu which was tasty but was disappointing that I couldnt get the pork belly. Im hoping the next time I come it will be available. I think its only available during dinner right now. The garlic with garlic press definitely made the ramen taste even better but im a lover of garlic. I would give this place 5 stars if it werent for weird layout of the place with low lights in the middle of the room. Additionally, the wait time for the ramen to come out is extremely long. The place is still new, so I assume many things will change. However, the ramen is good and thats why I will come back. #OneSmallStep

Ramen Yamadaya, I can never fault you for flavor! Like Anthony Bourdain, I love the pig - and Ramen Yamadaya knows how to prepare it. Every time I visit, the ingredients are fresh and you can tasted the love in the broth down to the last spoonful. Their communal table is actually kind of nice to sit at, though I still prefer the booths. Alas, popularity may also be their biggest challenge. Prepare for a long, cold wait in a drafty hallway unless you plan a visit during off-peak times. Do not be deterred, the flavor is worth the wait! Lastly, it pains me - but I have to take back a couple stars. One for slips in customer service due to staffing level and training; the other to get staff and kitchen properly cooled so they dont have to chill guests in the hallway and dining room with a draft. Fix those two I promise youll win both those stars back from me easily!

Presentation of the dish was nice. Flavor was good. The broth wasnt very hot or perhaps it cooled off very fast, when I bit into the parboiled eggs they where actually cold inside. The waiter or chef (he mentioned "he" had done a tv special on their signature dish) was very pushy and not surprisingly the dish that he recommends is the most expensive one. What really bothered me was that when I ordered the item that I requested had a price of $9 and change it read as the basic bowl. When I asked for it he replied -this? Good this is this dish- and he pointed at the more expensive item. He grabbed the menu of my hands and walked away. Why do they show a different item with a different price if they are giving you the same for more money??? I just wanted to eat my meal and leave. Dont think I will ever come back there.

A LA ramen chain opened in San Francisco, must try! Had spicy level 2 tonkotsu ramen the first visit….and oh boy it was spicy! Thank goodness I didn’t get the next level up because it was definitely spicier than average Japanese spice level! I pretty much lost all my senses mid-way through and couldn’t finish my ramen. Returned a few weeks later for a regular tonkotsu ramen just so I could taste the original broth. Ramen Yamadaya cooks their broth for 20 hrs to bring out the full pork flavor, and sure it’s nice and creamy! But the broth was on the more oily side…kind of heavy. Loved the soft boiled egg, and to my surprise, they have very delicious takoyaki (octopus balls)! Oh and if you like garlic, they provide fresh garlic for free to add to your ramen. A solid ramen shop, but wish the soup’s less oily.

The food might be good but I wouldnt know because they never brought it to us. Terrible customer service all around. We waited for over an hour for our ramen to come out and everyone who came in after us had already been served. Our waiter never checked on the table during that time. We waived him down and asked how much longer the wait would be then he seemed to be putting in our order to the kitchen for the first time, after sorting through tickets at the kitchen counter and checking the bowls coming out. We asked to cancel the order because we had an event to get to and they took another ten minutes to get us our check. Just a quick "Im sorry about that" with a full charge for the small salad and beer we ordered. I would not recommend this place.

The wait was not really worth it for this chain store. Theres rarely a wait for the one we typically go to down in San Diego, although the atmosphere here SAS nicer. Food is still the same; tasty but also very greasy/oily. The staff also told our vegan friend that the miso soup was vegetarian, then another staff came later with their vegan ramen and said there was fish in the miso soup. They dont consider fish a meat. A direct quote from the staff when questioned about it: "It is vegetarian, its all vegetables with a little fish." Also, unlike other restaurants in Japantown, they do not validate parking. Due to the plentiful other options, I think Ill start steering clear of this chain entirely.

Its not a bad place if you can walk in and eat without waiting. But it is absolutely *not* worth a wait...of any length. Ive lived in Japan, and had a lot of ramen. There is nothing spectacular about the food here. Ramen is fast food. I know yall watched David Chang slurp his way around Tokyo on the teevee, but what they *didnt* show you is that for 99.99% of those places, you can walk in, eat, and leave in under 30 minutes. Thats the *point* of ramen. Lining up for a bowl of noodles is nonsensical behavior. Anyway, point is, if youre reading this while waiting in line, Im here to help: get out of line, and go eat something more convenient. You wont regret it.
