After a great night of bar hoping in SF, we were looking for a place to satisfy our need for grub and lard.. Pinecrest seemed as the ideal candidate. The food was at best below mediocre and the service acceptable. What really bumped me off was the fact that although I ordered a patty melt 13.95$ that promised a 1/2 patty, when the dish arrived it was clear that it was only a 1/3 of a pound. And although a 1/6 of a pound difference might seem to some people as insignificant I felt disrespected and insulted. When I politely pointed out the fact to the waitress she indignantly denied it right away. She could at least check with the chef beforehand giving the customer the benefit of a doubt. At this point I need to stress that we didnt request any sort of rebate or discount when making our complaint and that we fully paid the check including tip. Being in the bay area for a while I have eaten at The Counter enough times to know the difference between a 1/2 pound patty and a 1/3 and I believe that it is more likely that the owners of the restaurant are trying to squeeze some extra profit from tired, hang-overd patrons late in the morning than us wanting to cause trouble after having a great night out. (So great that we even rejected cocaine when it was offered to us by a random girl). Friendly advice: go somewhere else if you want consistency in what you pay for and what you get.

We came in to eat some burgers. We ordered two different burgers one with coleslaw on the side and american cheese and the other one with chilli cheese fries and pepperjack. First the burgers came with the sides switched up so they changed it. Then the burgers came one with cheddar and one with american but the american on the supposedly pepper jack one. The fries sere just cheese and not chilli cheese but we decided to just leave it that way. Then on the check it said 3 dollars for one eggwhite which I ordered on my burger. The menu said 1.50 so I politly asked for an explanation. The waitress couldnt help so the manager came. He screamed at me for 5 minutes what I think who I am that I question his charges and so on. He eventually ripped my debit card out of my hand and just charged me the amount without any further explanation. This diner is a no go and you shouldnt go there if you dont want to get ripped of. Also the food wasnt good (patty wasnt seasoned and bun was dry. Coleslaw didnt taste like anything)

Walked in and left because the host was a total jerk to us. There were just two, so we waited a long time not wanting to take a big booth. Nobody ever talked to us so we sat down and only then did we get his attention. He came and yelled at us that we couldnt take up so much space. I totally get that. But you can at least be friendly about it. We decided to leave, and another customer followed us out and said they were leaving and could have their seats. Its not a good sign when your customers give better service and hospitality than you.

Im very confused by the line that exists every morning for this place. It took about 40 minutes to get a table. The staff wasnt exactly rude, but they are so busy they dont have time to be polite or do anything more than take your order and drop it off. Food is mediocre and nothing to brag about. We didnt have some horrible experience; however, there is not a single reason I would ever consider returning. My advice... skip the line and go somewhere else. Jack-in-the-box, across the street, would probably be a more satisfying option.

Big sign at entrance that says "please wait to be seated" after awkwardly standing there for a few minutes I found myself a table. Staff are extremely miserable, barely acknowledge you and to top it off the food was awful. Ordered the Swiss and Mushroom burger....was tasteless and just super greasy, very disappointing. If you are looking to eat badly overpriced, greasy food in an establishment with a bland atmosphere where everyone loves to frown this is the place for you :-)

Food is hit and miss. We had 3 meals across 2 days. Morning staff are shockingly rude. The lady serving us did not make us feel welcome at all. She also assumed we did not know how to tip and on the receipt gave herself a $5 tip without telling us. Extremely terrible, something we have not experienced throughout our trip to the US. Night staff are friendly and the food was great. Id recommend going to loris diner accross the road, absolutely amazing service and fresh food.

I went here a few times but got bored of it quite quickly. Food is quite nice but not wow. My chilli cheese fries had no taste and breakfast food was ok only. The portions were generous though. I felt rushed at times as the diner is quite busy and we were always given the bill halfway through our meal. I found that the tables or counter was always sticky with maple syrup or dirty so I think staff need to clean the tables more often.

Great food, humongous portions cooked up very quick. If you need food at 4 am this is your place - open 24 hours. I had an omelette that looked like it was made with 6 eggs overflowing with ingredients, toast that actually had real substantial butter on it and nicely cooked hash browns. I couldnt finish it all. The coffee was real strong and perfect for a cold SF morning with the stick to your ribs breakfast. Definitely a winner!

Sometimes you need an good old fashioned American breakfast. Eggs, bacon, pancakes, coffee. Pinecrest did not disappoint. Very busy spot, popular on a Saturday morning, bit of a wait going in. Was it worth the wait? Yes. The food wasnt fancy, but it was good. Good service, too, busy, but attentive servers. I sat at the bar & consistently had a full cup of coffee. Go early.

This place claims to have the best breakfast. I went for dinner and ordered a steak and fries. The steak was not beef steak, it was a grounded meat with onion. Priced at 16 USD , I expected at least a real steak. The rest was OK. But you cant messed up French fries , chopped tomato, salad . The service was fast but the staff looked weary. I will never go again.
