I took a friend this St. Patricks Day and was extremely disappointed. To start, the Gaslamp was pretty slow but better than a normal Sunday night. As we entered we were told there was a $5 cover. Ive never been to The Field when they charged a cover. We paid and went inside. There was nothing going on inside. We ordered Guinness and were served in plastic cups. My friend is Russian and used to work at an Irish Pub in Moscow. He said beer should never be served in plastic and Im pretty sure he would have thrown it out had we not been charged $7 each. I think they were 14 oz cups. I just checked their website and they say they offer 16 oz and 20 oz beers. The only entertainment was a video playing on the TV and it wasnt even Irish music. The nerve to charge a cover and not have some entertainment value. Look elsewhere for an Irish Pub. The only way to publish this review was to rate the Food, Decor, and Service. Sorry there was nothing good about our experience but the categories dont really apply.

Every now and again I like to visit an Irish Pub. Its just something about the hearty food and good beer. I have to admit that Ive only been here a couple of times, but the Shepards Pie here is outstanding. Pair that with a glass of Smithwicks or Guinness and you have a great lunch (or dinner). The Guinness Beef Stew is equally as delicious. The place is kind of dark, but we sat by the door to get some of the sunlight that was coming in. The upstairs seating is nice as well, especially if you have a larger group. The location is great, on 5th between Market and Island. After lunch we strolled around downtown to work off some of the great food we just ate. The prices are fair. I think it was about $25 for lunch for two plus beers. If youre in the area and in the mood for some Irish fare, Id recommend stopping by. Also, as we just learned the happy hour menu is available before the Padres games. It was a great place to meet up and have some food and beer before the game.

Came here with a friend after hearing how authentic the place was and what great food they had - and I wasnt disappointed! The atmosphere feels relatively closed off and dark, like an Irish pub should. One of my friends from Ireland actually told me it was the only place they really felt "at home" and it makes sense. Even my server and host were Irish! The beer was standard Irish fare and was good as expected, but where the field truly shines was the food. We split the sampler - Ive never understood why corned beef was so popular until now, it melted in my mouth and was delicious! If youve never had good corned beef I would absolutely get it here. The rest of the sampler was also quite tasty, and gave me an appreciation for Irish food I really had never had before. Overall, 5 stars for the experience and for the food, Ill be back for sure.

Waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Irish stew was reported to be good by one of the party. The balance of the guests had items that were deep fried accompanied by French fries. It tasted like all of the fried items had been cooked before hand and microwaved.....including the French fries !!! The dishes were on our table within 10 minutes of ordering which would qualify our suspicion of microwaved taste. We told our waitress of our disappointment but that was where it stopped. Had I been the chef, I would have been out to discuss it with the patrons. Would I eat here again - no - would I have a drink here again - yes - the Guinness was poured well and the shots were decent measures. Too bad because the decor and atmosphere were pretty authentically Irish. From your Scottish and Irish customers.

Ive overlooked this space since theres another Irish bar on the same block, same side of the street. However, a suggestion from my guy directed me here for lunch. The inside is dark and tavern-y (for lack of a better word). It is the kind of place where you could easily drink a few pints and lose track of the time. Since I had to go back to work, I did not partake in beer drinking but instead their menu offering of half sandwich. The fish sandwich was delicious, if not a bit messy. The fish still had a firmness to it and just the right amount of batter. The potato leek soup was tasty and on a cold day would sure hit the spot if served in a bread bowl. We had great service and should have visited a few days sooner for St. Patricks Day. Oh well, theres always next year.

Excellent Irish pub in the Gaslight district. I have no idea if this place was really brought over from Ireland piece by piece as they claim, but it doesnt matter as it is funky and fun regardless. Limited menu mostly of Irish classics (Hint: get a Boxty if you can) but some more traditional Americanized "bar food" as well. (Curry fries are a MUST) The highlights are undoubtedly the real Irish beer (NOT just Guinness!!) and the live "Trad" music. They appear to have live music often, but if you can go when they are advertising "Trad" as that is traditional Irish music. That may sound lame but it is great, and the patrons that seek it out seem to really enjoy it so the whole atmosphere gets even better. Not cheap but not out of line for the great experience.

The Field used to be the best pub in San Diego. Period. End of discussion. Unfortunately, over the years they seem have bought into the pretentious superficial Gaslamp snobbery and forgotten that while (almost) anyone can pour a decent pint, a real pub is about the hospitality. On my last few trips there, the service has been lackluster at best and downright rude on two occasions. The food (which used to be spot on brilliant) has also suffered, and while not bad, does not live up to the quality that put this place on the map. It is with much regret that I have spent my last dollar here. Though other places may not have the rustic authentic decor, they understand that the essence of Irish hospitality is friendly service and good craic.

The only thing you need to know about this place is that when I messed up, the bar manager Gary went so far out of his way to help me out. I was in town for a conference and I stupidly left my bag at this pub before catching a ride back to my hotel. I decided to call the place and luckily I spoke to Gary who decided (at 1:45 in the morning) that he would personally deliver my bag to Mission Valley. Go to this bar. Its a great atmosphere and it has great live music, but more importantly, you will be in the company of absolutely fantastic people like Gary who helped me out in a jam. Go there and enjoy!

Pretty authentic irish food! Or so I would think, considering I havnt been to Ireland yet. The point is, the food is good. Went with my cousins to check it out and we all enjoyed the goods. Its a pretty dark pub, probably how it is in Ireland. Had some TVs on to watch charger football, always a plus. I ordered: The shepherds pie. It was really good! I thought it was better than the fish and chips. I love my shepherds pie and this place keeps that love intact. A little bit steep on the prices but that wont stop me from going back and trying a few other items out.
