We had been looking for a great local sushi place for years, and decided to try this place on a recommendation. The wait on a Saturday night at 9pm was about 45 minutes, but it was fine. The place was packed, which is always a good sign. Once seated, we were pleased with the menu. It was quite loud inside, but it created a fun atmosphere. We ordered their beer and sake special for 5$ and were quite happy with that; also ordered their "San Diego" roll, which was creamy, spicy, and delicious. The other roll was the "Bridgette." The prices here are off the hook. The wait staff was stretched a bit thin on a busy Saturday night, but all in all it was a great experience. We will definitely be going back - and we have finally found "our" sushi place in San Diego. Also, they have a "rainy day special" - if it rains, you get a free CA roll, edamame, sake or gyoza.

Do get there early, i.e. close to 6pm - otherwise expect to wait for a while before getting seated. But hey, with C.J.s right next door, you can pop over for a cheap happy-hour cocktail while you wait. Yes, this place is always crowded, and yes, it may have the "hipster" atmosphere, but then again, it is located in Hillcrest, so go figure. Which brings up another point - location - MUCH easier to find parking here than when they were located downtown on Broadway - plus the CHUD factor has been reduced immensely. The food is great, and comparable to other places that charge much more for the same thing. If you feel insecure about yourself, or are afraid to talk to other people, this is not the place to go, but if you want great sushi and drink specials at a VERY reasonable price, you cannot beat it!

I hate to wait in lines but this place has incredibly cheap, tasty sushi. However, you pay for it in other ways, like waiting for an hour on busy nights. There are no reservations allowed, which is annoying when you have a large group. Since recently expanding to take over a 2nd room, you have a better chance at a lower wait time, but Ive learned to order take-out and/or go for an early dinner/ late lunch when it is less impacted. Or, we wait inside Cjs (dive bar) and have a drink if we know it will be awhile. The best part of Sushi Deli is their monthly special deals. You get a large amount of a variety of rolls, along with miso soup and salad for generally around $10. My husband and I usually split one special and add an additional roll or edamame appetizer and we are both full.

My favorite sushi place in San Diego. No, its not the best sushi, but the price is ultra-competitive and the portions are serious. Youll never leave this place disappointed nor will it break the bank. The staff has always been friendly and attentive. The only downsides to this place are the waits and the parking. Since its on a crowded street you might have to circle a few times to find any parking at peak times. Either that or park several blocks away and hike there. Once you do get there be prepared to sign up on the waiting list. It used to be much worse before the expansion, but now its gotten better. My favorite go-to platter is the sushi of the month special. They switch it up every month and Ive never had a poor experience in ordering it.

Sushi Deli is our familys go-to sushi place. For our family of 6, we can reliably feed everyone for sub $50, which is pretty awesome for sushi. Besides having a wonderful sushi selection, their monthly specials (Sushi and Bento) are amazing ways to try different sushi selections that we would not usually try. With 4 kids, we NEVER eat in - every order is to go for us, with a pretty consistent 30 minute from order to pick up time. Almost every time we get our food, there is a line out of the door. My eldest son particularly appreciates the Tropicana Roll which is oddly not on their regular menu. Also try the "Taco Tuesday" specials - a kind or sushi taco wrapped in rice paper. Totally different and yummy.

Longest wait ever but worth it. Never come here with a big party unless you come prepared for at least an hour and a half wait and start drinking at the bar. They have cheap (emphasize on cheap) menu items and are so tasty. I always enjoy their monthly bento specials which either switches up their entree (e.g. garlic chicken, salmon katsu, and teriyaki chicken), comes with miso soup, salad (best dressing ever), a sushi roll (e.g. crunchy, california), and/or gyoza. All for $5-6.99. I forget the exact cost but for good tasting Japanese food for less then $10 awesome. Also i can never bypass their drink specials - $5.50 for sake and beer. Just one drink special and im happy.

Lots of people like this place, personally I am italian so I like simple flavors and I cant deal with spicy, and always struggle finding something that can really satisfy me, BUT, I found my favourite combination so far: Katie roll and Poke Salad with salmon and seaweeds. $15 for a good amount of salmon and a nice roll with no fake crab, which I cant stand. Other than my personal opinion, they have 4 combo for around $10 and one that chages with the month. Thats a pretty good deal. Also, if you want to sit down for dinner, they dont take reservations, so be there EARLY. If you want to take away, call first!

No matter what people seem to think, sushi deli really is the best sushi you can get that wont burn a hole in your wallet. I have been there many times on dinner for 2, and ordered appetizers, beers, sake, bento boxes, and sushi rolls, and the check for all of that has ALWAYS been under $22!!!!! It is like some weird mathematical formula that insures the total can never go over $25. Plus, the food really is quite good, service is pretty good, and the neighborhood is good for poking around in thrift stores and whatnot.

Wait time is horrendous- dont even think about coming on a weekend! Were talking by the hour-ful. By the time you get seated, youll probably be drunk off their sake & beer special. Yes, prices are ridiculously cheap, but theyre cheap for a reason. Rolls are decent because most of them are doused in mayo and sriracha. Fish isnt fresh, and that goes for the other 2 locations in SD. If you really want to go to this "SD staple" of a place, youre best off with a bento/combo box and a "crazy" roll.

I got introduced to this place because the guy i was dating had a daughter who worked here...i absolutely fell in love with it and have turned many of my friends onto it. the food is excellent and the prices amazing. the service is super friendly and if youre a regular which i have become they treat you like it!!! I havent been to the one in downtown yet, but sushi deli 3 is just as good, its still new so the wait isnt as bad as mission hills, and its the exact same menu!!! YUMMMMM!!!

This is my favorite sushi restaurant. Pretty cheap and with a great vegetarian selection... usually. The most recent time I was here a few nights ago I was sad to see that two or three of my favorite vegetarian rolls were no longer on the menu! This was pretty disappointing, and means this restaurant will probably be sliding off of my list of favorite vegetarian friendly places to go. Really too bad since what is left of the veggie selection is still pretty good.
