I would like to first say that my omelet was very tasty...but...I cannot recommend this restaurant because of the lack of employee hygiene. We were seated at the counter over looking the final prep area. I observed three workers. The first was preparing olive picks for Bloody Marys. She reached into a large jar of olives with her bare hands, and long polished fingernails, pulled out three olives and threaded them onto a pick. She also had long hair which was not tied up or back and no hair net. With those same hands she repeatedly pull her hair back and then continue to thread the olives. Eventually, she left the prep area and tied her hair up. Then her cell phone rang which she answered, texted back, replaced the phone to her back pocket and continued threading those olives. She never washed her hands after touching her hair or phone, not to mention the bacteria under those long fingernails. The second person did final food prep. He had an itchy face which he scratched with his bare hands and then immediately rearranged the position of the egg on the English muffin with those same fingers. The third person was prepping lemons for the Bloody Marys. She was carrying several lemons and dropped one into the garbage can. She immediately look at us to see if we saw her drop it. If not, it was clear she would have retrieved the lemon from the garbage and used it. None of the lemons appeared to have been washed (they were dry and still had lables on them). I thought she would have picked up the dropped lemon, rewash it and continue. Washing it, did not seem to cross her mind. Then she prepped the celery. She removed it from its packaging, cut off the bottom of the bundle, and looked at each stalk for imperfections. However, the celery was not washed either. She also had a very long ponytail that she flung around over the food. She also threaded olives without gloves or washed hands. Lastly, I ate my omelet, and before returning home, was sick. I doubt that the tomatoes or basil were washed before prepping. Being I health care I can say this was GROSS!

I really love Fig Tree Cafe. There are so many good places to brunch in San Diego but Fig Tree is one of my top favorites. A few reasons why: 1) great menu. Weve come here with very different groups of friends and family, and all have enjoyed it. I myself have tried at least four different stuffed french toast dishes here (judge not), and the fig jam and ricotta stuffed french toast is still my favorite. 2) atmosphere and service are great. Its always busy here on the weekends so your server is likely to have a lot of tables and hungry people to balance but they do seem to genuinely care about making sure youre taken care of. Now for the things I dont like as much: Always a wait. No reservations. And the worst part is that they do not have a system of texting you when your table is ready so you have to wait very close by for 45 minutes. All of Liberty Station could be explored during the time youre waiting, or they could have more shaded seating available for the hordes, but instead youre either hanging out standing against the wall opposite the hostess station with 50 other people staring at her, or youre in the sunny courtyard straining to hear her yell names. Lets take a tour of the 21st century, Fig Tree, and use the technology. But thats my only complaint. And so easily fixed!

Sadly today I can only give 2 stars for our breakfast from the other day. We were seated at 9:30 am.... about 7 tables filled out side and 5 inside. It took our waitress over 15 min to bring us water and take our drink order. The Mexican Mocha that I got was warm, tried to catch our waitress to get a hot one but ended drinking it warm ( still great flavor) about 15 min after our drinks arrived she came back to get our food order. Simple, omelette, and 2 eggs Bennie. It took over 30 min for our food to arrive, reason give is that a larger party arrived. We saw them and they were seated after our food order was given so it should not have been a problem. Now my English muffin was soggy, friends omelette was warm. One of the things I love about the Fig Tree Cafe is their potatoes, this time they sucked. We were offered a 10% discount and we split the bill. Sadly the discount didnt apply when they split the bill. We ended up gets a $20 gift certificate to return. I am glad that I have eaten here enough times to know the food is great and the staff wonderful. Had this been my first time I would never come back.

Not typically in this area, but was looking for some place for breakfast while my guy got his oil changed. Good thing we got there when we did because a line was forming fast. So fast in fact, many bowed out while we were waiting. The wait itself wasnt that long its just that there was one hostess for a weekend breakfast trying to multitask by seating guests and greeting people. It seemed very lackadaisical and you can imagine the mounting frustration of the people in line. Once seated, the service was great. No complaints. I ordered the huevos rancheros which arent served with tortillas but rather the tortillas are on the bottom of the dish. However, the server graciously brought me a huge, warm flour tortilla. The breakfast sushi with a bacon roll sounded interesting but I didnt bite that bullet. The huevos rancheros was a good portion, tasty but not the best Ive ever had. My guy was pleased with his pancakes combo breakfast. The pancakes are plate-size and looked good. Prices arent too bad for the portions you receive. The total meal with bottomless coffees was around $30.

I was so excited to eat here!!!. So many goods reviews, but is really sad i had the worst experience... I ask for a hot chocolate. When the waitress bring the hot chocolate i notice the the cup have a pink lip mark on it ( yes lipstick mark) i told her and she pick up the dirty cup fron my table and grab a "clean one" and paste the hot chocolate fron the dirty cup to the clean one put more cream on it and bring it right back to me. I was watching her at all times so i ask her" do this is a new chocolate? OMG and she answer me yes it is!!!. So i never drink my chocolate i gave it to another waitress. Also i ask for the california breakfast burrito and the steak was undercook. I didnt return it i just put away the steak and eat the rest of the burrito. At the end when the check came in it has the hot chocolate in there too. I will not visit this cafe again

I had a deal of some sort ($25 for $50) and having been to the location in PB I knew this was a must buy. Boyfriend had the Short Ribs and the plate was ENORMOUS. Hes 64" and can eat and he didnt even finish the ribs and potatoes. The short ribs were insanely tender and delicious. I had a crusted salmon special with lobster mashed potatoes which were interesting. Salmon was amazing! Potatoes werent my favorite because they were a bit plain and Im used to making garlic mashed pots, but I think they were enhancing the lobster flavor so I totally get it. I had a bellini of some sort that was so refreshing and lovely. Went back after we ran a 5k at Liberty Station and had a peach bellini I believe. Also so good and just what we needed after the race! This is one of my favorite restaurants in SD!
