I give this place high marks based on our experience there during the last night of Restaurant Week. Since we had three people at our table, we were able to try every single dish offered and it worked out rather well. We also tried the half liter of house red wine which paired well with some of the dishes, and was quite enjoyable. The mushroom soup was excellent and creamy. The salad of pork belly and fig was perfect. The salmon tartare was not my favorite, but if I were a salmon fan, I would have been very happy with this dish. The main courses were very different from each other; the least favorite being the sea bass with avocado puree. It was overly flavored with cumin, and the other flavors were lost unless each bite was paired with the pieces of mandarin orange offered on the plate. The guinea fowl was the highest rated dish of the three, with an excellent range of flavors and a nice crunchy bit of skin. The wild boar bourguignon with egg noodles was comforting, tender and rich. Dessert was delicious. The sabayon with fresh fruit was clean and simple. The fallen chocolate souffle was rich, but comforting. The lemon creme brulee was the real winner. We followed up the meal with a absinthe cocktail, which came with wonderful presentation and flair. The interior of the restaurant and the attentive wait staff made this dinner a five star evening.

This is one of those surprise places. Walked by it dozens of times. Had occasion to be downtown and had some time to kill so I decided to stop in and check out their happy hour till 7 everyday. The menu you short but thats usually a good sign that whatever is on there is very good. Their burger is fabulous! I rarely eat burgers but this one is special. If youre looking for the ordinary onion, tomato, mayo, ordinary bun, ketchup and mustard, check out down the street at Jack in the Box. The fries are the thin fresh kind -- and if theyre not fresh doesnt even matter because they are delish with thyme seasoning. Only reason I am not giving it a 5 this time is because the mussels, although tasty, were small and few, which mattered less on the happy hour price but totally not worth the price on the regular menu. Also I wasnt fond of the fries being dumped in the middle of the brothy bowl with the few mussels surrounding the fries. I see another review where the remark was how huge they were. So it may just be a seasonal thing. Either way I wont get that again. Atmosphere is very small boutique lobby bar/restaurant. Very cute and comfortable. Cant recall the name of the young lady bartender now but shes a sweetie and took care of me. I will be back.

Currant was in our hotel. The menu looked good so we decided to try it one of the nights we were there. My wife and I were both very disappointed with our food. We started off with their popcorn of the day, which had bleu cheese, dates, and bacon. It sounded great, but there was very little of the toppings, it was mostly just popcorn. Our entrees were not good. I had the venison wrapped with bacon, which was the special that day. Sounded incredible, but was poorly executed. It was overcooked and chewy. Originally, I wasnt given a steak knife, they said it shouldnt need it. They ended up giving me one anyway. Good thing they did, it took me minutes of sawing with the steak knife to cut a piece of the meat. Id never had meat that chewy before. My wife got the duck dish, which was also very disappointing. It was basically just a duck leg bone laying in a dish full of beans. The bone had no meat on it. The dish was supposed to also have pork belly as well, but there was none that was visible in the dish. It was basically a dish of beans. The service was fine, and the outdoor patio was very nice. Those were the only things that made our dining experience worthwhile. Unfortunately, the food fell far short of that.

We went here for our anniversary and it was horrible. They did not give me the sandwich that I ordered. I was hungry enough that I shrugged it off. Then the glass of wine I ordered was "corked", but when I asked to have a specialty drink instead, the server went to tell the bartender. Then bartender stalked over to us and made a big show of a newly opened bottle. I stopped her before she poured it and said that I had asked the server for a specialty drink instead. Then the bartender glared at me and went back to the bar. Twenty minutes went by and no drink. So, I guess she decided I was going to drink THAT glass of wine or I would get nothing. The server was apologetic, but seemed to be helpless to do anything. The big piece of chicken cartilage my husband found in his mac & cheese was the topper. Well NEVER go back!!!

Downtown away from the Gaslamp is the awesome American Brasserie, Currant! The outside is classy, welcoming, with views of its amazing bar and decor. The food? To die for. From the braised lamb to the seared duck breast, the chef really makes a statement and leaves nothing to chance. Each dishs sides seem to perfectly compliment it in ways not thought of before - summer tomato tart alongside the beef ribeye, masala lentils with the duck, charred corn and lemon whipped goat cheese served with the lamb. Its an amazing retreat for a quiet, romantic dinner away from the general busy-ness of the area.

I had lunch here during a conference break. It was a little slow for what I needed but would be great for a business lunch since it is quiet and no one is rushing you out the door. Not a wide vegetarian selection but the Tomato Bisque is vegetarian and VERY good. The Grilled cheese isnt anything special but it was also good and the shoestring fries were a bonus. I also ordered the Lavender Lemonade which I was really excited about. Sadly I could not taste the lavender (I love flower flavors). The drink is $4 which wasnt worth it in my book. Outdoor seating is small but a really nice bonus.

What a great location! The bartenders are splendid and the staff are wonderful. Happy hour every day of the week with a great selection and fabulous choices. My only issue is that twice that I went to have drinks with friends there have been some obnoxious drunk men there, my guess is that they wander in from the hotel area, and are served drinks...I understand that the bartenders dont realize how intoxicated they were before serving them, but they are not pleasant to sit next to. Honestly, this wouldnt stop me from going back, but is just the reason I gave them 4 starts instead of 5.

This is by far one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. I live nearby and waited almost a year for it to open. From the atmosphere to the food and service, this place is top notch. Its an American restaurant with a French twist. The chef is John Flueger (sp?). I ordered the roast chicken and it was delicious. I suggest the mussels and clams appetizer as well! The restaurant has an extensive wine menu too. Me and my family loved it! I will definitely be back!
