I havent been to the restaurant, just making comments on what I see as an actual Hungarian. The owners are not Hungarian. Neither of those names are Hungarian names. They are Slavic names. The menu is quite Hungarian and Chicken Paprikash (csirkepaprikás) looks good but the Goulash man.. (gulyásleves) that has nothing to do with the actual one (gulyás is more like a soup or stew) . Wed never throw a bunch of chopped up beef on rice. In fact we hardly use rice for our national dishes . Except for Stuffed Cabbage (töltött káposzta) and a few others. We use potatoes. Its like when you try to run an authentic restaurant you kinda need to change the menu a bit to fit the host countrys taste I guess. Im not giving it a bad review though, because Im sure its a nice restaurant with lovely owners and tasty food.

Popped into this little bistro during a street fare and managed to snag the last spot near the door. Cafe Marika is like being transported to Europe! The husband a wife team do the whole shebang from hostess, waitress, cook and bartender, and you can see most if not all of the kitchen--its that tiny. Most of the other patrons were regulars who knew to make a reservation--a good sign in my book. I ordered the chicken paprikash and was not disappointed. Its like good old fashioned home cooked European food, hearty and delicious. The menu is not big but you get a full meal even desert for a reasonable price. You bet all be back and Im calling ahead first.

I went to Cafe Marika with 5 ladies of my book club and my grandson on a Thursday evening. I made a reservation in advance since this place is extremely tiny. It is probably better suited for just a small gathering, but the food was very good. I had the pork schnitzel with potato salad, which looked and tasted delicious. All the dishes came with a nice salad and a piece of apple strudel for dessert. Only 2 choices of salad dressing though: Italian and Blue cheese, but the salad was really fresh and crisp! I will definitely be back for the schnitzel meal.

Amazing, intimate place for dinner! When you walk into a place with 5 tables, a shirt menu and reasonable prices, you know youve found something special. Delicious Hungarian food, freshly prepared. Called for a reservation and was no- nonsensely told they werent busy and we could just show up at "anytime". Such an adventure. Perfect for our Honeymoon! NOTE: Cash only. Not an issue for us but I can see how others would have a problem. 7

God help you if you do not get a reservation for this place because theres limited seating and a large fanbase. Groups larger than 6 are not recommended, as they typically accommodate groups of 2-4, where 6 is a stretch. The food, as expected, is wonderful and made by just ONE person, the owner. The apple strudel that you get at the end is well worth the price of admission

What a wonderful cozy restaurant with incredibly delicious food! We had the house special and it was awesome! And the price! Where can you buy great lunch like this at a price that rivals fast food? The owners are friendly and courteous people, and go out of their way to please their customer. 5 Stars all the way

Rude and unfriendly not hungarian place, Im not sure why they offer hungarian food when they got offended when we asked if they speak hungarian. Dont offer recipes from another Country which you dont respect!!!! Our experience was very confusing and sad.

I eat there about 3 times a week for lunch. The owners came from Czechoslovakia and the restaurant has been open for almost 30 years. I know and love Slovak food, and this is the real deal, served up by great people.

My favorite restaurant in the Sacramento area. Cant beat it for the price. Tiny place, limited menu, excellent homestyle Eastern European food. Owned and operated by hardworking husband and wife. He cooks; she serves.

Great small restaurant ... Food was awesome... Super home style... Close quarters ... The couple that run it are very sweet... Soup was amazing... You get a 3 course meal for $12-$15... They dont take credit cards!

Truly traditional Hungarian! From the Hungarian you hear spoken in from the back to the delicious meals, everything takes me back. Just a little place, but amazing service with a mom and dads place feel.

My favorite restaurant, delicious food, run by a very nice couple. Hand-breaded pork schnitzel with spaetzles is the best! Very good prices for the amount of food you are given.

I eat here once a week and enjoy the honest, delicious food. If you have any dietary concerns including Vegetarian, ask then and they will customize for you.

Nice place. Small and cozy. The chicken is slow cooked so its so easy to eat and the pasta is homemade. Very delicious.
