So I have yet to try my breakfast burrito... (which simultaneously arrived as I am writing ) and hopefully it will be delicious. But everything about my 10 minutes here so far has been pretty disappointing. I have been to the Cafe Trieste in North Beach and in Monterey and both are great! The women behind this counter is exceptionally slow, and seems like it could possibly be because shes new? Otherwise she is just not a multitasker. The barista is atrocious. Given I have worked in coffee very in depth for 5 years and am admittedly a total coffee snob. This guy doesnt call order numbers, or anything at all outside of his own ear shot. Making things super awkward and confusing when you walk up to the line of unmarked drinks. By then most of the terribly and sadly constructed foam has withered away on most of them, because theyve been sitting so long. ...because he doesnt clearly call them out. You dont have to scream, but at least be considerate and speak clearly and loudly enough over the busy conversation in the room please. Anyway the guy who brought be my burrito looked pissed and bothered which doesnt help. As I scorch my mouth on this burnt au lait, I almost want to give benefit of the doubt that it has just been a bad morning. Otherwise there is far too much careless and inadequate service coming from this place today. :(

Good, basic menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner , all three are served all day and night. Dinner menu leans toward Italian cuisine with vegetarian options. Breakfast and lunch offer standard cafe meals. Pastries, espresso and a very good selection of teas. One house red and one house white make up the wine list. Baristas and the rest of staff can be friendly, but always attentive and fast. Some meals come to the table surprisingly quickly. I have to agree with at least one other reviewer regarding bussing tables, some prefered tables will be unavailable due to the left over dishes of long departed diners. Another complained of rude band members, Ive experienced this at Trieste but at other similar cafes too. Playing-for-tips-one-night-stand bands behaving as if you are intruding into their venue, or worse, making their performance at you table and in your face.

Whats not to like about Caffe Trieste. Have always enjoyed the great bohemian coffee shop atmosphere in the original in North Beach, and it is nicely duplicated at the Piedmont Ave location. There seems to be a virtuous cycle of Trieste attracting certain customers which make Trieste interesting to those customers. Piedmont Ave Trieste has a nice selection of pastries and even some food items. I had soup there that was surprisingly tasty. Occasionally the people at the counter are gruff, but hey, there are probably too many happy customers flowing through here to make it a really relaxing place to work, so I dont really blame them. In the end it just adds to the ambience.

Positive: Good traditional foamy cappuccinos, not the new wave extra milky type. Negative: someone brings food to your table after you order at the counter, but no one busses. There are signs to bus your own table which no one sees. So, most people dont buss and every time i come in there are dirty tables and abandoned plates. I dont want to buss other peoples food! Please just give up on the wishful, every man for himself philosophy, and just have your staff buss regularly. And why does the Italian omelette have Swiss cheese in it? I see Parmigano and Fontina elsewhere on the menu. Stupid

Friendly low key neighborhood joint with decent food and choices. Daily breakfast specials and dinner specials. They have a happy hour from 3 to closing with a food and drink pairing. Central location in the middle of Piedmont Avenue with the parking lot right behind. Great location you can sit and people-watch. They also have a good selection of desserts from local specialty bakeries. Beer and wine available as well as full espresso and coffee options. They also have free Wi-Fi. Tables are generally small 2-3 people although you can move tables together.

I think they make the best lattes on Piedmont Ave. Its a cafeteria style affair where you walk up to the counter and place your order. The pastries are delicious--everything from bread and croissants to fruit tarts and tiramisu. Theyve got multiple angles going: great place for a morning coffee or full egg breakfast, great place for an evening beer and panini. Theres a small TV they often use to show sporting events at night, but its very unobtrusive. Anytime I need to meet someone on Piedmont Ave, we go here. Its got something for every taste.

Their coffee is delicious! You dont have to order ridiculous drinks like a caramel macchiato to make their coffee palatable. A traditional cappuccino requires no additives. No sugar, no chocolate, and certainly no caramel. Their pastries are amazing as are their savory dishes. Even when they are busy, the friendly and efficient staff will not make you wait long for your caffeine.

Classic café ambience with excellent coffee. Heres the weird part: They have a full menu and the food is EXCELLENT. Their Chefs Scramble may be the most delicious breakfast in Oakland. I talked to a couple who get spaghetti and meatballs at least once a week. Noisy. Oh, and they usually watch local sports events on a large screen.

I hate giving a low star, but I was treated unwelcome. The person who was charging in the cashiers discriminate me probably because of my accent (Latino). The thing I dont understand is that the cashier is Latino too. Shame we have to deal with our own. :( Food, is ok. Cant give more than 3 stars. Sorry.

Im always impressed & at ease when I come into this cafe. The food, coffee, wine, breads & backed goods, and atmosphere is outstanding here. It tends to get crowded at times but its definitely a place worth visiting to either socializing or going for good coffee/food. Love this place!

Salads are really good. Pizza is a bit greasy. I tried the Napolean dessert and found it a bit stale. Great location for people watching on the avenue. They have outdoor seating both on the avenue side as well as the back side.

We liked this place. It has a great atmosphere and ok food. The service was fine. Its great to get a table near the window (day or night) and people watch. Piedmont street is a very young and hipsterish.

Nice place, cozy interior and good drinks. I like that it has a back patio area and some parking. Its rare to find a good place with a parking lot in Oakland, so Ill probably be back

Great neighborhood cafe that is good for working, hanging out, or eating. Their menu has a little of everything, making it a good all-purpose spot. And service is super friendly.

the staff has been consistently rude. everything takes forever. baked goods are terrible - soggy croissants, oversweetened pastries. i have no idea why this place is popular.

They didnt bring my wifes bacon with her order ... later, they gave it to the customers seated at an adjacent table and she got it only after those customers had handled it.

Their food and coffee is great, but they have some of the rudest Baristas I have encountered. The only place worse is the Cafe Trieste in Berkeley at Dwight and San Pablo.

Great place to have a relaxing breakfast or enjoy a cappuccino while working on a project. The Lox bagel is delicious, and the pizza is pretty good at night too!
