Its very lively, for one, and the macadamia nut stout was really good, but the food was kind of underwhelming for a German place. First they only give you one sausage for $12, and theres considerably more spatzle than is necessary, probably somewhere around 11-12 oz. The spatzle was also just barely toasted at all, although not undercooked, so. The sauerkraut was cooked through, if light in flavor--I remember my grandmother, who lived in Germany for a number of years, made much stronger sauerkraut, although less complex. The knackwurst itself was very lightly cooked, although warm--just not what I was expecting. Kind of reminded me of a beef hot dog that a hesitant dad made. The pretzel bun was good--and nicely done--with the cheese dip, but it weighted the plate in favor of starch, instead of, yknow, the thing I ordered. I guess I should have expected California to do "German style" rather than "German", but its still a bit disappointing, especially for a $25 ticket. tldr: come for the beer but maybe eat someplace else.

I loved this place when it was the Steak Out. I give two stars for the food; it is still decent (though not as good as before), but overpriced. A burger with fries, a chicken salad and one beer ran $34. My problem is the service: we waited 25 minutes for our order without success. When I went in to ask, it was a few minutes of conversation in the kitchen followed by "theyre looking into it". No, theyre making it. Just say "sorry, we lost the order". It happens, I know. Just say so. Ten minutes later, our food came out, and all we were told was "thanks for your patience!" Thats it? Most places would offer a free side, comp you a drink, or... Say sorry. 35 mins for a burger and salad, and no apology. Thats sad.

Ordered chocolate stout, currywurst and fries, and lamb koffe. Chocolate stout reminded me of high cacao chocolate with the body of a stout. Would recommend. Currywurst and fries were good, but hoped for a sauce that wasnt ketchup. Fries had a good firmness in the body and a soft starchy inside. The bratwurst seems to be covered in a tikki masala sauce, but it just seems redundant since the base of it is tomato, and it just gets lost after eating ketchup with fries. Lamb koffe is great for sharing for anyone into hummus. The lamb needs to eaten ASAP or its cold and disappointing. No happy hour to my knowledge, but could be wrong.

I had one of the lousiest burgers of my life here. It tasted like they bought a frozen patty at the supermarket and microwaved it for 5 minutes. The patty was drizzled with a dollop of oily goop, described as bacon jam and sautéed mushrooms, and stuffed between a giant, tasteless bun. It basically ends up being a mouthful of bread with a little bit of greasy meat. The fries were similarly sub-par, tasting exactly like frozen supermarket fries. Redeeming factors: The staff was friendly, the service was quick, and they have pretty tasty chocolate chip cookies.

Bierhaus is usually packed, parking is difficult and the prices are high. The beer is pretty good and tends to stock more imported German beer than local craft beers which is somewhat less common in the bay area. The food likewise keeps a basic German style theme and its decent but somewhat expensive. Seating is beer hall style (thus the name) with long benches and communal tables. Overall not a bad place but nothing that great beyond the location. One highlight: you can use google hands free payment here which I was more excited about than anything else.

I couldnt give less than 5 stars to any place outside of Bavaria that serves my favorite beer ever: Andechs! And its cool that theres a biergarten feel to it, and theyre super dog friendly--our puppy got lots of attention. The food was less good than the beer, though. Its OK pub food. We had the mustard chicken sandwich (good) and the pretzel melt (not good: soggy and too spicy). I would have preferred more traditional beer garden food: obatzda, roasted chicken, pretzels, weisswurst. That said, I would definitely go again just for the beer!

The Blood Orange Cider is fantastic; thats the first thing to know. The second thing to know is that you will likely have to sit outside, as the inside itself is a bit small, but fortunately its almost always fantastic weather out in Mountain View. The place basically serves pub food -- burgers, fries, and an occasional salad for good measure. I do remember there being vegetarian options, though my memory is blurry about what exactly it was. But overall this is a great place on Castro to hang out with friends and get them that beer you owe them.

Service has certainly gone down hill! I have been coming here for about 4 years.. but having to wait 10 minutes to "not be served" is not good. Despite the number of staff milling around, I stood patiently in line to be served, whilst the 1 server ignores me and promptly disappeared into the kitchen.(there were other servers behind the bar but they were busy doing non-server things apparently) I decided enough was enough, and decided to give my business to other beer gardens nearby, where I was served quickly and politely!

Great beer selection on tap that rotates by season, and tremendous burgers (the turkey burger in particular is shockingly good). Steak Out is the place to go for a nice casual meal in a boisterous and lively environment. While outdoor seating is plentiful, spots get taken up quickly as this place gets very popular with the after work crowd. The restaurant provides table games (Connect Four and the like), but youre also free to bring your own. Prices a bit on the high side, but decently good value for what you get.

The best burger around! Love the rotating taps with beer you can rarely get anywhere else in the area on draft. Fabulous customer service. One time, one order in our party got lost. What I assume was the owner/manager came out, apologized personally, and bout our whole group a round! Food came out promptly after that. Outdoor seating is great - heat lamps work in the colder months when its not raining or on cool spring evenings. Great sweet potato fries too! Definitely recommend.

Meh. Decent patio but just OK selection of beer. Menu skewed toward imported German beer. I get that given their name but there is so much good Californian beer in the same style that could be represented. Queue out the door at peak times. Only two cashiers. Weak performance from bar staff. More taps and/or payment points would help. Vegetarian food was okish but I expect more for the price. On the plus side there was an awesome dog carting beer around. What a hero :)

Since moving to Mountain View, the restaurant at this location has gone through at least 2-3 refabs where they totally changed the cuisine. I have to say that SteakOut is my favorite of the 3. They have a great and reasonably priced selection of beers and they have CurryWurst (German street food - sausage and fries with curry ketchup). The menu is big but not massive, it seems clear that what is on the menu are things that they can do well.

I saw "Shrimp Burger" on the menu, and I had to have it. Where else can you get a shrimp burger? Having never had one before, I can confidently say that it was the best shrimp burger Ive ever had. In all seriousness, it was similar to a crab-cake, but better tasting, in my opinion. However, after coming back a few times, my favorite burger is definitely the eUphoria burger. It has a sharp and distinctive flavor that I cant get enough of.
