Though I live in the area and have passed Redwood hundreds of times, I have always avoided it because of their high prices. Last week I decided to take advantage of an Entertainment Book coupon and give Taps a shot, it was worth every penny! I asked countless people which dish they enjoyed the most, but kept hearing the same mantra of "dont worry, EVERYTHING is good". I decided to keep it simple with the fillet of salmon, though it turned out to be anything but. I was impressed with their gracious flexibility in changing the menu and delivering exactly what I wanted. My salmon rested on a bed of spinach and was surrounded by a border of roasted potatoes (as opposed to the mashed potatoes and asparagus that the menu suggested). I started by complementing the potatoes with the fish, but immediately discovered that the salmon was seasoned to perfection and did not need any more flavor. Luckily the potatoes and spinach came the same way so I enjoyed them all independently. The bread was especially scrumptious and served as warm as can be. It came with a delicious dip that could be scooped up with rafts of bread. The soft middle felt like pillows in my mouth and was cloaked in crisp, fresh crust. The service was impeccable and definitely made me feel pampered. I was so impressed with our waitress that when I noticed a hair in my food, I removed it and threw it to the ground to destroy the evidence, not wanting to make any trouble for her.

Amazing ambiance, the pirate theme is wonderful and fun. Wait staff were cool, had an edge, and were very attentive. Food was okay, as were the drinks. But, I was shocked to get a $95 bill for 4 captain-n-cokes and 2 burgers (not Kobe, even Angus beef). Youre paying 3x what you would for the same quality drinks and food at Applebees for the atmosphere, so if you want to trade the 3hr 4 course dinner with imported wine at a small Italian joint for a buzzed hour in a pirate ship, this is your place. Not going back... if the prices were cut in half I would go often. Then again this is downtown LA, so prices like this are typical.

I went this past weekend to celebrate a friends bachelorette party. I was not expecting great food from this pirate ship themed bar, but since I was hungry I decided to get some something to eat. I ordered a simple burger with bacon and it was delicious and very flavorful and the fries were awesome as well. I was also pleased to find out that they serve good beer from local breweries, I was not expecting craft beer at a dive bar . My friend ordered a mojito and said it was excellent and it was also the nicest looking mojito I had ever seen. Good food, drinks, and company. Redwood was a win!

I only review places I like. Therefore I like this place for the great location. The bands I have seen big names and small fries but always a gas. During the day the Redwood is a local favorite for those who work and visit downtown la. At night this venue transforms itself into one of the citys finest rock and roll/rockabilly/punk/alternative showcases. The chix are hot. The beer cold. All within sight of city hall and just east of second street tunnell for fast arrivals and escapes.Zeusage M

Redwood Bar & Grill is great fun. Food is very good and lots of energy in the room. It helped that my date was very cute, so they gave us a prominent table. I had a shrimp cocktail and steak, while my date had crab cakes and sea bass. All was very tasty and we shared an incredible bread pudding with salted caramel ice cream. Service was prompt as well. Nice choice if youre strolling the bluffs.

...that adds on $50 to your tab AFTER you leave a 25% tip! Yeah, yeah the decor was awesome, the drinks were delicious, but cmon! As a former bar-tender meself, I certainly tip well and I dont appreciate it when $$ get added to my receipt without my consent! Many hip places in LA do this, but Redwood isnt so hip that it even deserves to pirate my receipts! 1 staarrrgh, matey!

The food was good...but when we entered the bar, one of the servers (a very small, older woman with long curly hair) rudely told the friend that I was with that he was being pushy, and that he needed to get a drink and relax. He just asked for a table so we could eat!!! He was so bummed, we almost left. I know he wont be back, but I found my burger to be delicious.

Ahoy!! Ive been avoiding the Redwood because I was told that they had a cover charge. These mates should belay such talk. No cover charge upon my visit. Blimey! all this place was missing was a Capn. As all hand were on deck for the decor. Good HH. Yummy sliders and fried calamari. Offered pirates punch, which was good. Yo-ho-ho!

Fun place to hang out on evenings if youre over 21. The pork belly pizza has been haunting my dreams for days now, its incredible. Good appetizers and sandwiches as well, I got the fatty boom batty sandwich and it was awesome. Good alcohol prices and they always have a good special going. I will be back to spend more money.

This Pirate themed bar was featured in the movie 50 Days of Summer. They offer a laid back atmosphere and on the weekdays it is a lot of county and city employees and LA Times staff members. On the weekends the atmosphere changes because they host various Rock Bands. The drinks are well priced ($8 for well and $5 beers).

Pirate themed dive bar. Cheap drinks, the food is surprisingly underrated here. Parking can be a pain as any DTLA bar would have. Friends play shows there regularly so when bands play it can be loud but its otherwise a very quiet bar. Has a couple TV screens if you want to catch a game.

I love this place. A little divey but great theme decour. Its fashioned after a pirate ship. Bar staff is great, fast service and they have very decent bar food. Great place for lunch and drinks in a hurry. They also are one of the only bars dtla to book regular live music. Mostly punk.

Came here to see a band called Merit and it was amazing! The stage in this place is pretty tiny and tucked into a back corner, but its got a very intimate vibe. There is a pirate theme going on and they offer a full bar. Overall a pretty cool experience.

This bars a couple blocks away from my apartment and I always see myself here on Fridays. A great way to bond with friends (except the alcohol though). :) I just love to chat and dance while the rest of the people are drowning themselves with booze. :)
