I like how people use the term "will drive for food", but here its more about "will drive to the hood for food". Thats when you see so many foodies show their true colors. I find that most people who are foodies and come here are well travelled, but most foodies who arent truly adventurous take 1 look at the address and head to In N Out. Frankly that doesnt bother me. Im fully comfortable in infamous parts of town and to be honest you have to come here to really appreciate all the other burgers you "say" you love elsewhere. Ill get into the details of what they do so different than everyone one else a little later. They give monster portions at prices you saw when you were growing up so the value is undeniable. The service is great, but a little slow, but its a take out joint and not somewhere youll get much extra from it by dining in. Partially because its busy, its packed and they prefer to focus on food and not the décor. The slowness comes from the craft, it takes effort and time to loose pack angus chuck (coarse grind), assemble once ready and of course get everything to finish together. Flat top grill is perfect for the large chunks to crust and what I like to call "adsear" adhere/sear where the grease frying is what helps hold the loose pack together. Almost crumbled were it not for the cheese. Fries are the steak style diner fries. Nothing special about them. The chili cheese fries should be called cheese with chili and fries they really overload the cheese. Its hearty, with a very southern taste. Youll think you want to get the Whipper burger, double stack meat, egg, pastrami, fried hot link thats seared on the grill again and all the fixings. Its too much for most eaters, but perfect if you have a hearty appetite. The pastrami is peppery as most say, but Its not East coast deli pastrami, still better than The Hat. The egg is usually just overcooked and not over easy the way I want it, though I imagine the whipper with this would make it all fall apart. As with all proper burgers, do not take off the diaper. The hot link has snap and spice, but not heat. Dont be that guy that comes to a burger place and gets more bacon on the burger than patty. Honestly the standard cheese burger is plenty big enough for most people. Onion rings left something to be desired. 2 cheese burgers and Im stuffed. The bread is nothing special, but its wide and holds up well, doesnt detract by falling apart. Good char, could use butter for slightly better crusting. Long before it was cool and popular to shop your produce fresh daily they were doing it. Maybe it wasnt "organic" or "local", but heck back then it was better than week old lettuce. 3 words to summarize. Adsear, loose pack and whipper sum up all you need to know about Hawkins House of Burgers. Oh and protip, aint nothing wrong with drinking my Mexican coke from a paper bag.

I dont normally write reviews for places, but I felt as though if theres any place that deserves a positive review. Its this place. I saw this place on the news, and it looked delicious. So I decided to bring my dad here for his birthday, and it was an amazing experience. We ordered two cheeseburgers specials, and it was probably one of the best, if not the best burger I have ever had. The bun was my favorite part with its brown articulate design and taste. The veggies and meat went together perfectly, and the fries left an amazing finish. As we were about to leave my dad ran into the owner, (Ms. Cynthia). We told her it was our first time, and she said the next time we came she would hook us up. We then told her it was my dads birthday. She then said shell be back in ten minutes. We told her we already ordered, and she said, "Havent you ever heard of to go?" We waited for a while, and the cashier came out with a big strawberry drink with strawberries in it. The cashier said the owner was cooking something for us. So we walked in, and the owner had personally made an extra order of food for us, for the road. Then they played "Happy Birthday" by Stevie Wonder with all the cooks dancing. We gave the owner a hug, and said thank you so much. It was an amazing experience, and the best experience I ever had at a restaurant. They treated us like family, and well definitely be back.

I came here with my cousins a while back. The reason we came here was because we saw this huge burger on an article - The Hawkins Special. We ordered two of the Hawkins Burgers (3 meat patties, 2 eggs, bacon, hot link, chili, pastrami, and a side of fries and a drink) for about less than $20 each which is pretty good considering all the stuff thats inside this monstrosity. It took a bit for the food to come out, but once it did we were impressed. Needless to say, we didnt finish the burgers but it was amazingly good. It was piping hot because everything was fresh of the grill or fried. The patties were thick and juicy, the eggs were runny, bacon was crispy, pastrami was peppery and the fries were really crispy. I finished about half the burger and I felt like I was gonna poop baby burgers out of my butthole. Definitely worth a try if you are into eating challenges or if you just want a really good burger. Parking is challenging but we found street parking.

National Cheeseburger Day celebrated @ Hawkins House of Burgers My family and I heard Ms. Hawkins on Good Day L.A. - Fox 11 today. We saw the burgers being made fresh and decided to drive to Watts, CA and taste for ourselves. I googled the place and got there only to see a long line but that didnt stop us from placing our order. 45 minutes later we received our order once we got home and began eating our food, it was well worth the wait!! My turkey burger was great, my husband said his double bacon egg cheese burger was excellent and my daughter and her son said their burgers was big and just too much to eat at one time! I know I wrote a lot but its my first time posting and going to Hawkins HOB! Although the order was minus a french fry order, Im rating Hawkins HOB five stars for the great food & service from Yanna the cashier (thanks for the picture). We will definitely visit Hawkins HOB again ! :-)

Hawkins House of Burgers is a fast food restaurant with really good food! I think I have never eaten a burger so good in my life! Great food and then say that the location ... The Hawkins House of Burgers is gorgeous .. !! My advice to anyone who will go: if you sit under the lights near the kiosk pay attention to the birds that may spoil lunch throwing some little surprise from above ... I do not know what I mean !! In this place the line is absolutely rewarded! Highly recommended !!

I first ate here days after that Watts Riots in the 60s. I was about 8 years old and I remember my Dad telling me that the reason this place was not burned down was because the neighborhood had respect for the owner. I will never forgot that day. All these years later I was able to return and enjoy the great pastrami and other delights they have to offer. I plan to return with my grandkids one day and tell them the story of that day so long ago, and how history is even in food.
