KIMCHI FRIED RICE! GET IT! The first time I visited Hae Jang Chon was with my bf on a weekend and the line was over an hour long, so we went to Oo-Kook instead. Last week a group of 7 of us arrived for dinner on a Thursday and there was no line! I ended up reserving a table for us anyway, but we got pretty lucky because the place filled up quickly after 8pm. Once seated we all opted for the $18.99 AYCE Korean BBQ which came with 19 different meat items and yummy banchan dishes. The meat we ordered (tri-tip, short rib, pork belly, chicken, brisket, bulgogi) were all flavorful and tender. I loved how our server came by consistency to cook the meat for us. The round lopsided grill was also something interesting that I saw for the first time. It allowed for all the grease and oil to leak through a hole from the grill so youre not eating all the meat soaked in the grease. Although, the seating was a bit cramped for the 7 of us at the table I really have nothing negative to say about this place. If I ever find myself in Ktown and craving Korean BBQ Ill definitely be coming back! Also, I have to rave about the delicious Kimchi fried rice! It was the cherry on top of the sundae for me! We had to request for our server to come cook the fried rice for us after we were done grilling our meat dishes but it was well worth the wait! The fried rice was spicy and I loved the slight sourness from the kimchi that was mixed in. I definitely recommend saving room for this after your meal! Tip* Parking is kind of a b*tch because the parking lot is valet only and gets packed quick. Theres street parking nearby but that gets full too.

2 years ago I would of rate this place low - being that i am a vegetarian, i know i know- what the heck is a vegetarian going to Korean BBQ?! Sadly most of my friends are meat eaters and the boys I date are typically all meat lovers so there! Anywhoo -2 years ago I was meeting my gf after work and I was Starvinggg! I thought I would be able to eat some side dishes to get full but NOPE! all they had at the time was SALAD! needless to say i got plenty wasted off of Soju an hour later. fast forward to Sunday evening of 2011 My boyfriend was researching on yelp and this place got crazy high reviews and he has never been here before so him and I and his roommate all ventured out to Ktown and we arrived at the Big Pig sign- my heart sorta sanked when i saw the big Pig, due to horrible past experince of not being able to eat. So after an HOUR or so of waiting we were finally seated right in front of the kitchen. The staff were super friendly and since we were right in front of the kitchen we didnt have to press "serve me" button once! I was extremely happy that i was able to eat most of the side dishes not to mention they now have Bim bim bop (spell check) I had always love Korean rice, its always so soft and chewy! my boyfriend and his roommate both really enjoyed this place! My only complaint is that I wished there ventilation system worked better- the smoke was blowing in my face the whole time and it burned my eyes and i still felt the sensation when i got home

Ive gone to this place twice. Once with group of 3 and one with a group of 6. The small group was great but I love this place more with a large group of friends. If you have groups of 6 or more you can make reservations. I highly recommend this place for large groups. Instead of waiting an hour to be seated (which you will) you can call it in and they seat you writhing 5-10 minutes of your dinner reservation time. We had planned to do a la cart. One plate of their meat cost the price of an one all you can eat. Not thinking I ordered 6 plates of meat. After the guy takes me order he comes back in a few to tell me with that many plates of meat Im better offer getting the all you can eat because it will be cheaper overall and you get extra sides. That was really thoughtful of him to catch that and let me know so I could save some cash on dinner. I also really appreciate that they cook all the meat for you without asking. Especially with a large group its nice not having to worry about flipping the meat. They are also very diligent about asking if youd like more meat evan before you can ask. All the meat was fantastic quality for an ayce and I really enjoyed all their sauces and sides that cam with the meal. Good place! $23.99 a person for all you can eat.

Hae Jang Chon has got to be my absolute favorite Korean restaurant in Los Angeles and even all of SoCal. Why? Let me count the ways: 1) This is a Korean BBQ restaurant you can take friends to and be proud of. This place looks hip, cool and young and the crowd is diverse. 2) The food is incredibly delicious...my mouth is watering right now as I recall the BBQ juices and the variety of meats, which brings me to 3) They have a wide variety of barbecue meat choices, including exotic stuff like squid, baby octopus and beef tongue. Of course they also have the standby favorites, black angus beef brisket, pork belly, etc. But they even include marinated short ribs in their all you can eat menu, and all for just $16.99. Talk about incredible value! 4) This is by far the IN place in all of Koreatown among restaurants and ayce korean bbq places. Its even open till 2AM! How can you go wrong? and finally, 5) The servers are friendly and extremely helpful...they come by often to clean up the stone grill with daikon radish, which is a spectacle to watch and very unique. All in all, this is my favorite hangout restaurant open late where me and my buds can get our ayce kbbq on. Awesome, truly awesome restaurant.

My family and I visited LA and spent about 5 days there during the holidays. We tried a number of restaurants while there, including Hae Jang Chon. I have to honestly say Hae Jang Chon was the worst experience we had during this entire trip. First of all, service was horrible. The waiting staff was rude and not helpful. They assumed that we wanted the BBQ and didnt even ask if we may want to order something else. They disappeared from us after they started the fire under the BBQ pan. About 10 minutes later we noticed the pan was getting too hot -- black smoke was emanating from the pan. It was then that we tried to get the attention of one of the waiting staff and got some food on the pan. The food itself was OK -- not my type of meat to use for Korean BBQ. The pork was too fatty and not was marinated well. The BBQ sauce was OK. The side dishes were good, but waiting staff seemed to be unwilling to bring them out to us when we asked them to, which diminished our enjoyment of the side dishes. The atmosphere of the restaurant was not good. The tables are very close to each other. I have eaten in lots of Korean restaurants before, and this one is the worst. I would not go there again.
