I absolutely think this market specially the people who make the masa deserve an award. Seriously the Michelin people should really consider coming in here. Amapola has been in service for over 4 decades, the service is stellar, it is super busy at peak times so although the staff may want to educate you on all things maizé and indegenous food the other costumers are impatient so come at low peak times if you have questions :) Some of these reviews I feel are unfair to this establishment, all of them by their own admission have been purchasing their masa here for decades with out incident, only the best masa on the West Coast. Amapola has been part of the Los Ángeles tradition and to throw a company under the bus after their commitment to serve the community by bringing products are prices that are scarce. I specially think the business has gone way beyond the call of duty to make this okay. It is my hope that they are not taken advantage. I will continue to come here without hesitation and continue to support this business that is a anchor of culture a place of tradition and a place worth keeping alive for all the culture and cooking traditions Amapola continues to keep alive! Keep up the good work!

-100* stars I usually do not write bad reviews on any establishments or such. But TODAY I WILL! In my mothers behalf - she stood in line for hours in the damm cold and rain waiting to buy masa for the traditional tamales on Christmas eve dinner, but this year was different as the tamales were a no show for dinner! Thanks to Amapola stealing Christmas from thousands of customers who trusted their messy masa product. My mother purchased 70+ Lbs of masa plus hojas de tamal, cheese, chicken, pork, beef, piña etc, and not to mention time, stress and anxiety waitng for hrs and hrs for the tamales that never were. Expecting a FULL reinburstment for all products and materials used.....the damage is done!! Amapola, you did not get away with the Cheap low quality masa you were trying to sell!! Times are though but trying to dilute the product? No Bueno! Sincerely, A never returning customer

Me and my aunt bought 55 pounds of masa for tamales together ( after a few hours of waiting in the rain).after all the hard work of preparing and all the money invested,we separately put them to cook and both had terrible results.we put them to cook and checked them after 4 hours and the masa was not done, left them cooking and kept checking every hour and after my aunt left them 12 hours and I left them 11 hours, everything was well done but the masa was still very soft,we have done tamales many times and did nothing different this time...it has to be the masa,we are very disapointed,i am definitely requesting my money back even though it doesnt make up for ruining my christmas!

My favorite spot for home cook meal without going home for lunch. This is a busy place. Customer service did their best. They are fast, efficient and wonderful people. Good food, good drink and good overall service. Just be patience or call before come to pick up your item. Great place and great people. Give yourself sometimes because this place is crowed at lunch time. CROWED! - meant it is the favorite spot for all kind of people.

AMAPOLA RUINED MY FAMILYS CHRISTMAS!! My dad and I stood in line for about 2 hrs to get 20lbs of junk masa. They have been in business long enough to know that masa was nothing but crap. WE WANT A REFUND!! How will we get a refund for the meat, cheese and other things bought for the tamales??? The worst part is that they completely ruined the mexican tradition of the family gathering and eating flavourful tamales.

We been buying masa from here about 20 yrs but this year was very bad. The tamales never cooked correctly plus it had no good flavor to it. Is very disappointing. We will be going to complain. Its not fair that we spend about 40 lbs of masa plus chicken, pork, cheese, salsa, and hojas de tamales everything is very expensive for just a store to make a mistake and ruined our whole Christmas day.

I love love love Amapola but this is the original location where my father used to bring me over 45 plus years ago when I was just a little little little tyke. Lol...so its much much much much much smaller than any of the other locations. Thats the only reason why I gave it three stars just way too small and crowded you cant move around in there. Time to make it bigger you guys.

Maybe it was the flour manufacturer or the lard? Something was obviously wrong with a product that they used. This market has been serving the Latino community for a long time, forgive and forget. They arent a corporation, and are even offering a full refund. Things happen. Yes, they should have cooked a batch beforehand, but things happen and they will learn from the mistakes.

We have been going here for over 30 years. For the last few years we have stood in line for over 2 hours in the rain for 40 pounds of masa. This time the masa was ABSOLUTELY disgusting. The tamales took more than 2 hours to cook and did not have the same taste as the past years. I came all the way from San Jose to spend time with my family just to taste this despicable masa.

I bought 80 lbs of masa , and it was trash , we wasted time & money. I stood in line for 2 hours just to get it . 2 hours! It was the worst experience because I fell asleep at 4 to make my tamales just so I could be embarrassed in front of my 100 guests plus some of them starting throwing up ! I want a solution for all the money we wasted , plus I want a refund !

Masa i bought for xmas party but wasnt any good. My other two aunties were with me waiting in this ridiculilously long line to buy masa like we do every year. Fast forward long hours of preparing and cooking just to find out that my tamales nor my auties tamales cooked correctly. Christmas tamales were made and none were eaten. A sad year indeed...
