Been in town for work and whenever I hit a town I rely on Yelp for where to eat. I was hesitant to try Black Bear because of some of the reviews. The first bad review was all "blah blah blah OMG MY LOUIS VITTAN BAG WAS STICKY blah blah blah". I thought she just sounded like a miserable person in general so lets ignore that and give it a shot. I gotta say, I was very pleased. The staff was attentive, refilled my drinks, explained the specials, ect. Nicely done. For dinner I got the prime rib special. It came out med rare like I asked and it was a generous portion. I also had mashed potatoes and brown gravy which was hot and flavorful. Corn on the cob was pretty much just that but it was hot and didnt taste like it had been sitting in a bowl of water all day. All in all it was a good experience.

The food was not something special. My husband had the taco salad, which was good (nothing special) but its presentation made it appetizing. My kids had the California burger and fries. The burger was good and avocado was fresh. The fries were good. Kids were happy. I had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetables. My order came last the chicken was not crispy and mashed potatoes were watery (frozen) perhaps, the steam vegetables were cold. We had dinner in Paradise, CA at Black Bear Dinner and definitely the quality of food and service was not the same. The server apologize about the wait and my food. She gave us free scope of ice cream. The restaurant definitely would benefit from looking at the food quality (how fresh it is).

I ordered a breakfast without cheese. The waitress got it wrong. I sent it back. Took the eggs off the plate, put new ones on still had cheese all over the plate, just not on the eggs. Apparently figuring that Im too stupid to notice. I sent it back again. So as all the people that arrived after me are finishing their meals, I finally get the right order. Nothing special, run of the mill. Not worth the headache. Oh, how I pine for a time when cheese was an option rather than the default. And when serivers actually listened to the customers. And when cooks didnt try to pull a fast one.

My husband had ordered the pecan trout, it was served and looked & tasted like leather another one was served in its place and was much better. Then I get bill which read one amount and they charged me more then what the original bill read. Which I caught immediately.. and asked why I was charged more.. Their response was, they forgot to add on your hot teas. In good faith they should have just waived it. After everything we went thru. Poor customer relations. We WILL NOT be going back there.

This is a new place here in front of Chabot college, first time here and first time at a black bear diner. The food is delicious I came with my family and everyone enjoyed it. 5 star place, we found a breakfast place close to our house. I hope they keep it up and not just for the opening. awesome place, delicious food, very nice services. thanks black bear diner.

My wife ordered the meat loaf dinner and it was the first time we ever saw hard mashed potatoes, My Grandson had the Bob Delux burger and the meat was barley cooked. My son had the enchiladas and it was covered with lemon. Weve eaten at 2 other locations and the food was excellant so I guess we wont be going back to the Hayward location.

My husband ordered a steak wanted it rare, all they did was throw it on the grill no seasoning nothing and it was cold when it got to the table. My waffle tasted like it had garlic salt in it. I did start to give 2 stars until we saw the cook grab a broom sweep then go right back to cooking without washing his hands.

This is what I call an all American diner! Its one of the best places to get a basket burger and fries, thats guaranteed to fill you up! With amazing customer service and an awesome gift shop, if you want classic American, come here! I do have to say the gift shop is slightly over priced, but its almost worth it!

Always a good choice for quick up beat lunch. Good food, can eat healthy and good people watching. Hayward Black Bear Diner is there herself everyday and servers you with Tip: if you have a box at the Hayward, preorder a cute picnic basket from here, its a family tradition we always look forward to.

Loved this place since I was a kid. They are consistently good. Tip: one order of fries will serve two people easily. Their milk shakes are like the fifties shakes, where they pour the shake in your glass and then leave the container on your table. Its like getting two shakes.

If youre extremely hungry, this place does give large portions. However, if youre in a hurry, dont bother. Typical wait times top 20 minutes on most days. Stick to breakfast food and you should be okay. Step outside that, and its hit or miss...usually miss.

Huge portions & reasonable prices on basic comfort food. An occasional miss but 98% good food. I stop at the one in Willows while commuting back/forth from my Trinity Alps Summer place to the Bay Area. New one in Hayward makes a nice addition to the area.

The place was not clean at all . The table was all sticky we told the waitress and she wanted to move us to a different table. We just walked out not a good place to eat. I have went to a lot of black bear Diners and this was the dirtiest .

Seriously amazing! I have never rated a restaurant before today, but this place deserves it! Outstanding food, huge proportions and great service. In and out in roughly half an hour. Fed four of us for $53 bucks!! So glad we stopped here!

Huge plates great food, reasonable price for food. Handicap accessible, children welcome. Restaurant is kept clean and tidy. Good customer service. Restrooms are clean and stocked well. Awesome place to go with friends and family.

Good food, huge portions. A hungry persons dream. If its their busy times be prepared to wait but the food portions make up for it. You wont be hungry after eating.
