I had high hopes for this buffet. What really ruined me and my friends experience was the lack of anything that tasted ANYTHING like food as we know it. One of my friends told me, and I quote, "the bathrooms looked like they hadnt been cleaned in 10 years." Im going to go over the plethora of detriments that my friends and I experienced yesterday. Im going to start with the things that I personally endured yesterday. Ive been to a few buffets in my life time, so naturally, I went for a solid meat plate to be able to eat more later. I had some fried fish, a rotisserie chicken breast, what was labeled as popcorn shrimp, a slice of meatloaf and a cup of pink lemonade. The fried fish was OVERWHELMINGLY bland. To my surprise, the popcorn shrimp was actually popcorn chicken with about as much taste as a stale cardboard box. Meatloaf, being one of my personal comfort foods from early childhood, is supposed to be cooked; this was not the case as it was only mildly warm for the first 5mm. Thank goodness the rotisserie chicken was actually something that was palpable, it being the only thing that I didnt despise. Somehow, in someway, Hometown Buffet was able to mess up a fountain drink, my lemonade had indistinct floating particles of indeterminate origin. After my ordeal with my first plate of food, I was hoping to find ANY redeeming qualities in the other foods that they had in stock. The macaroni tasted like they had found a way to synthesize mucus from "cheese" but it was only 35% efficient and left the dish perpetually at room temperature. Thinking that cotton candy is not a hard thing to make, I tried a one of the sticks that had that pink sugar that we all know and love; yet to my complete and utter surprise, they had made the candy tough! How is that possible? I dont actually know. As a sort of tradition I have with buffets, I choose to enjoy one, or more, tall cones of softserve. Trying to get the cone was difficult, one cone broke in half prior to me getting there and was left in the dispenser, not really blaming the place, but added to the gross atmosphere of the place. The ice cream tasted fine for the first bite, yet the aftertaste is hard to describe. Imagine for a minute that you can taste temperature, the aftertaste tasted warm, yet still felt cold. I wasnt the only one to have a bad time. I talked to some of my friends who tried some other things and had different experiences. My friend said that the bathrooms looked like they hadnt been cleaned in 10 years, after talking to my leader who also used the facilities, he said "Its not that they LOOKED like they hadnt been cleaned in 10 years, if you catch my drift." Another friend of mine mentioned how the restaurant was poorly kept and looked trashy. He also grabbed a spoon from one dispenser, noticed that it was pretty gross looking, then got a new soon from a different dispenser. In conclusion, the restaurant and food was great, if and only if you enjoy eating terrible food in an almost equally terrible venue.

New to the area and we like buffets. My husband is kind of fussy and critical of most all eating establishments. He thought the dinner buffet was pretty good. I thought it was great! Their cheese enchiladas were the tastiest Ive had since trying over 7 Mexican restaurants here in 7 weeks. Im Asian but love Mexican food. Their guacamole was delicious! Wish they had replenished the chips. Ate a little of a lot to check their quality and taste. Not disappointed. We look forward to going back very soon!

I love hometown buffet because they got mashed potatoes to go with the steak or chicken with some pasta. Yu cant beat the price if you are hungry. Love that they have the selections of soda, coffee, chocolate milk, h20 & ice teas. Two thumbs up ! High give. San leandro hmtown buffet got no selection like the buffet at southland mall, hayward Ca 94541 across from panda express & chase bank !

Place was by far the most disgusting restaurant Ive ever been too, food was all over the floor. Everything was dirty even the dishes and utensils. The employees were just walking around talking to each other. Food was not good, total rip off for 12 bucks. Ive never given a terrible review of a restaurant, but man I do not suggest to anyone to go there... ever...

I dont really like to go to Buffet places because I feel like the quality of the food isnt good. I like the fact that hometown have a variety of different kinds of food, but I usually just get the food items that arent super greasy. They seem to be a clean place to eat, the service was good, their friendly and make sure that you have everything you need.

The plates where very dirty. It looked like an old lady with Parkinsons washed the dishes. I swear the Mac n cheese was straight from a kraft Mac and cheese singles box. The corn bread was drier than a dead dingos donger. I almost chocked to death. They should just call it "corn dead" P. S the ice cream machine was broken. I didnt know I was at McDonalds.
