We were looking forward to a good rib dinner during our stay at Doheny State Beach. After our visit to the Rib Joint...I wish we would have just stayed at our campground and barbequed our own! When we arrived at the typical dinner hour the place was empty...This should have been our 1st clue not to eat there. The only folks there looked like they were regulars at the bar. By the looks of them and by the foul language coming from their mouths that should have been our 2nd clue not to eat there. When the ribs arrived they were very dry and overcooked. They gave us a side of barbecue sauce but even that wasnt any good. When I took the leftovers home to my husband he said they were the worst ribs he had ever eaten. Its too bad because the location was good, the waitress was very nice, but the food just wasnt good. I was warned by someone to go elsewhere and I wish I would have taken their advice. I feel bad being so critical because it looked like a family owned business and I wish I could support them. They need to work on their cooking and it just might be a good place to eat if they did.

Small place. Nice live music. Salad bar needed refilling. Nobody greeted us when we walked in. We informed the waitress that we had a coupon from the entertainment book and they promptly told us that they dont take them and it was a mistake. While we thought about whether to eat there or not, they offered us 10% off, then bumped it up to 20% off. It sounds ok, but the coupon would have made out about 40% off. They should have something posted when walking in as Im sure it would have been an issue if we presented the coupon at the end. Anyway, we left. Felt like a scam to get us in the door. The money they tried to save themselves cost them a customer, and possibly repeat business, which by the looks of the place they could really use it.

I liked the corn bread, the salad bar was kept good, went in for the ribs, and was a complete let down small undersized, machine trimmed(less meat) and dry. The rub was good but its only as good with the meat. Restaurant side was empty but bar was busy. If you need a drink thats the place, if your going for food......dont bother, you could get better stuff from the fast food places along PCH. Dont think Ill be going there for a while.

A great place to eat and drink. The baby back ribs and BBQ chicken are the best. Real drinks, real people, friendly bartenders. Live Hippy Hillbilly music most Wednesdays. If you like authentic old school bars, you must check this place out, kind of like the 55 bar or White Horse in NYC.... a true jewel, a rarity in the O.C. If Dylan Thomas was alive today, he would have his last drink at The Rib Joint.

Great BBQ can be smelled from a block away. This place meets that requirement! Great locals; dont be thrown off by it being a kinda of seat yourself dive bar. Theres a great outdoor patio too. The head cooks a local legend the prices are fair the foods great. They often have live music. My favorite lunch has been a simple chili and a beer cant go wrong. Try a platter Ribs & Chicken its just perfect.

Saw this place while we were walking looking for breakfast place around 10 am. Wandered in and so glad we did ! They had breakfast, not a ton of options but what they do have is delicious! Had to get some bbq ribs in addition to eggs and sausage. Came with excellent sweet cornbread and some wonderful conversation. Rod and Bob two fun guys ! Kind of old fashioned & authentic rustic atmosphere.

THAT WAS SO GOOD!!! The waiter was really nice and funny. The food... OMG THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS BEST RIBS IN TOWN AND THE CHICKEN WAS SO TENDER AND YUMMY!!! The prices were great and the food came to our table faster than you can blink. THAT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE OVERALL. SO GOING THERE AGAIN!!!

Old, old interesting place in Dana Point, decent ribs, salad bar where mostly locals show up every day and few out of town people. Disregard the trashy look of the place and try the saute mushrooms. You will come back for more.

Neda and Richie are really nice bartenders, lots of regulars that are very nice and friendly. Great music and the salad bar is wonderful. Id comment on the ribs, but I dont eat meat, I hear theyre really good though.

Great pork ribs. Only had 2 and they were large enough to fill me up. Salad bar was also good with enough of a variety to make it satisfying for most people. Casual atmosphere and entertainment was great.

Been coming to this place for several years. Its a little friendly locals bar. Nothing fancy...great people and tasty ribs. Whatever the rub they use is very flavorful without being too salty.

Really fun place! Food was good, service was ok..but the bartender was severely overworked. He was waiting tables with a full bar crowd. For sure going back, hopefully theyll be staffed better.
