This restaurant is one of reason why we usually eat at home. I bought a Groupon discount because we ate the Pasadena location (2 Years ago) and the food seemed good especially for $36 for two. Not knowing there was a location in Rancho Cucamonga which was closer to my house I took the deal. To start the server took about 10min before even acknowledging our presents. To be honest I didnt even know who our server was. Then the food came. The miso soup was good! The Karage (fried chicken) was good but they used a spicy Chipotle sauce to dip not what I was expecting. A meat and rice dish came, and my first impression was that the rice tasted like Uncle Bens long grain rice (Nasty). Then we got white and garlic rice and that also tasted cheap. I ask the manager whom appears on the company website, is this Japanese rice. The manager said yes, but didnt know the brand name of rice they use (If they used a good Japanese rice the manager would know because the cost is high). The meat was not allot by my standards, and for the first time ever, I got meat that was salted and peppered at a cook for your self restaurant. I will admit that I may be a snob, because my wife is Japanese, I have travel to Japan many times and I eaten that these types of restaurants in Japan. But for $90 (groupon discount out the door $17+ $10 tip) that is allot of money to spend for cheap rice and seasoned raw meat. I would love to recommend this type of restaurant to non Japanese like myself, but it is bad, really bad.

Im an experienced restaurant connoisseur and I have to say that of all the places in LA Ive been to, this place by far has the worst service and people skills Ive been to. First of all the young Manager, would not accomodate me with a simple soup change. Im allergic to Miso soup and when asked if I can get egg flower soup she said "sorry, we can not make substitutions. Only if I did not eat pork, then they can substitute for chicken, but in this case it would be extra for egg flower soup since egg is more expensive." Are you kidding me? On the menu the price of the soups are the same $3.95. Im asking for a simple soup change not a menu change. Plus its not as if you are spending $5 on fast food, which by the way, fast food chains as In and Out will go above and beyond to do a menu change. I left and went to Benihana where there, they will acommodate a simple change request. I will never go this place. I took my business to Benihana. This place Gyu Kaku, will never earn my business.

This place always gives me mixed feelings. On one hand, great concept, and have never had bad meat at this location. Love love love the food! Servers are timely for the most part. On the other hand it seems like the staff could care less about the fact that they are there to serve YOU. Often if you go in for the evening happy hour the servers turn quite rude and rushing you out becomes their first concern. Hostesses are AWFUL and BEYOND bitchy. One is nice, I believe shes an assistant manager of some kind. But as for the rest they all have this same consistent look of being braindead, and seem to act as if its true. Im a regular here, so naturally I hope they improve their staff, but unfortunately it doesnt seem theyll be doing any improvements soon. Also unless you go during happy hour or get all you can eat, prices arent worth it

We celebrated a birthday, and it was the birthday boy’s choice to eat at Gyu-Kaku. My husband, daughter, and I had not been there before. The restaurant was too warm and uncomfortable, the table top felt sticky, the eating dish/plate for each individual was poorly designed and used throughout the meal (never replaced), and the food portions were extremely small, especially for the price. The servers appeared rushed, slow to fill drinks or return to make sure all was well. The server spilled a bowl of miso soup down my husband’s leg and there was no offer of even a complimentary soda. Finally, the price of the meal was outrageous, especially for the quality of the food. I will never return and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are too many good restaurants for $150/four people.

Just went for my anniversary it was different. The customer service was ok not the greatest but ok. When it came to recommending a drink the waitress really didnt seem to know what they had. Went for happy hour and prices were decent. One thing that upset me was that around 9:15 pm they started preparing to close by picking up stuff from the tables I understand getting stuff from empty tables but they kept coming around to ask if we still need our dipping sauce. The restaurant was clean but bathrooms were a mess. And the advertisements around were kinda tacky they were printed out pages with tape and come were barely hanging on. But Id still recommend it as an experience probably would go anytime soon unless a special occasion like this was.

The food here is amazing even the waiters and waitress are good and fast so I decided to do double dates but it was so ackward the waitress next to us kept literally bending over in front of my friends date .. We would try not to look but the more we tried the more she would bend over .. I felt so bad for the guys trying be respectful but this waitress just out of line she even wore some see thru tights I can literally tell her design on her thong lol love the food but this waitress really made the whole date feel uncomfortable needless to say I will not be coming here with men but girlfriends to say the other table next to us with kids walk out before ordering because it looked like she was literally waking in a thong lol

They have quality meats that you grill on your own and happy hour is almost all day, every day. I always get the Bistro Hanger Steak ($6.95) and Toro Beef ($2.95) and dip it in the Spicy sauce that is provided for you. My favorite appetizers are the calamari and the steamed chili dumplings. As for rice, the Beef Sukiyaki Bibimbap is good. Beer and sake is so cheap here! Its great if you and your friends are on a budget. Sapporo Draft Pitcher - $9.75 (on HH) Jumbo hot sake - $8 12 oz. bottles- $2.95! Cant go wrong with that.

It was really bad. This was our first time as a family and they just...wow. weve eaten at a lot of places&we can be patient, we understand that food takes time but this was a kbbq. You cook your own food so youd think your food would come fast right? Nope. This was just the worse experience ever. I would think that a place like this would be alright, no. Just. No. We will never go here again. Honestly, the food we got , was not worth the wait ,price and the sort of cramped atmosphere

I came here with a couple of friends on a Saturday for lunch. Our server was nice but the service was very slow even though it was not that busy. Everything is a la carte & portions is quite small so the end result can be over priced. We dont mind paying for a good quality food but it was a turned off that the table was a bit sticky & the restroom was not clean. I have not been back since then in their Rancho Cucamonga location. I will check out their other location in the future.
