I experienced really poor quality today! I have been eating at the Black Bear locations in both Natomas and Elk Grove for months and love it! Actually one of my favorite breakfast spots. However, the Citrus Heights location is more convenient and new so decided to try it out. Well, the place is well put together and clean. Also, the waitress/hosts were welcoming and nice. Unfortunately the food was horrible! I ordered "The Grizz" and my girlfriend ordered "Joes Hobo Omlete", it looked as if they did not cook anything long enough. My eggs were soggy and watery, baccon was not cooked as well as my sausages that were still pink inside. The omlete had barley any cheese and was not melted (how an omlete should be). The food was extremely cold and looked really disgusting. On top of that, we did not receive our biscuits and gravy! We did not stay to eat, we decided to go to a different location. I should have listened to the rest of the reviews, also the family sitting behind us has something taken off their bill because there was an "unwanted item" (what the manager called it) witch was a piece of hair. Really unfortunate and disappointing. I will NOT be returning to this location!!!!

I truly never write bad reviews. My Grandmother was here the other day and raved about it. So we decided to go today (Easter). I knew it would be busy. We only had to wait 5 minutes to be seated. Hostess was amazing. Here is the downside. I saw so many waiters with great expressions and giving great service. Our server however did not. She treated her other customers with great service. I promise Im not one of those people who cry discrimination. Thats not at all what she was doing. She just seemed to not be paying attention. She may be new or nervous with it being so busy. She also didnt offer us our choice of sides. I ordered an omelette with all the goodies I like. However it didnt come with the cheese I ordered. It didnt come with any cheese actually. I ordered a small side of gravy and sour cream. Had to ask multiple times before I finally received it. By the time I did my food was cold. The taste was ok. Not sure if their breakfast just isnt that good or what. My mother had the tri tip dip and she loved it. My grandma had the ham steak which I tried and it was delicious! I may give this place another shot but I might start going to other locations.

Wow, I am very surprised at the bad reviews! We ate at a Black Bear in Utah, & in Woodland,CA, & enjoyed our meal & service at this location. Our server was very friendly, as was the hostess that sat us. Came for a late breakfast; had about a 10 min wait & the place was quite busy. The atmosphere seemed positive - I didnt see any disgruntled customers. The food was very good, & the portions are very ample for anyone hungry. My 87 yr old mom ordered coffee & banana cream pie - this was not just a little slice of pie, but rather a whole small pie served in a small pie tin in a soup bowl! Needless to say, I helped her finish it. I had a good sized omelet with hash browns cooked nicely; my wife ordered a burger & fries. When she saw it, she thought shed be taking half home. People, this is a great brkfst or lunch place! Try it. Added edit: I read about 3 negative reviews that said they waited 2 - 2 1/2 hrs! Really!? Get serious - who on earth would wait more than 30 mins. to eat at a diner!? This would be like waiting 2+ hrs to eat at Dennys or Cocos! Get a life (& a brain).

The food was decent, although a side from my ordered meal never came to my table. The atmosphere is what it is, a bunch of wood and wood bears, not good or bad, clean at least. The service was positively terrible, from start to finish. When we were called for a table, the hostess couldnt even bother to look at us. Every waitress in the restaurant seemed overextended and disinterested in any kind of customer service, and three even ended up "helping" us. We even heard a waitress say, quite loud to another, something to the effect of "they say the customer is always right, but I dont know about that". We had to ask multiple times for one refill of our drinks, a task that seemed easily ignored. We never got our check, and had to go to the front to be able to leave, and at that, the server ringing seemed confused by are presence and did not seem to understand we werent given a ticket. She just kept giving empty apologies, never really asking about our experience or why we might have been upset. Black Bear Diner has lost three customers tonight.

2 of the 3 waitresses were great one who was not our waitress but we did ask her help didnt seem to care at all and didnt help our food was very overcooked steak was like rubber supposed to be medium hash browns were nothing but crunchy bits of I dont know what the biscuit I had to send back because I could crack the plate with it we finally got our food redone and the steak was still a piece of rubber so the two waitresses we had were fantastic and give us a free pie each the chocolate cream pie was supposed to have an Oreo cookie crust on it. I got it home Im still looking for the Oreo cookie crust it was nothing but chocolate pudding if the customers are complaining like I heard and sending their steaks back as much as the waitresses let on that they were you would think by this time that they would get a clue and fix it. I would wait at least another month before returning to see if maybe they hired new people to cook the food.

Very bad service. I asked the waitress if the omelet was spicy and she said no. So I ordered. I was smoking through my ears. She didnt even offer to choose anything else different. They took forever to bring the food. We asked to two different people for more iced tea, no iced tea. So I have to stand up and requested it at the bar. The manager tried to help me and couldnt find the iced tea. The service... very very poor. Cheap food, you paid what you get. Not coming back. The manager came to the table to see if we needed anything else, so I said I would like to order to go for my other child and I dont want to wait forever, perhaps hours, so she said "well it wont take hours, but it will be for a while". So what I was supposed to say. I dont want to order? Poor poor service. They need to be trained better to handle a food business. Dont recommend the place at all.

My favorite place to eat and was thrilled when we got one in our area. Went with my daughter and grandson on a Friday, 11:30 am. We each ordered a sandwich and soda. We waited for almost an hour to get our food. Waitress must have apologized 6 times. My Reuben sandwich had dry, packaged meat on it, it was just OK. Overall, the food got a 7 out of 10. It was good, but there are better sandwiches elsewhere. None of us finished our sandwiches. We got the bill, $57.00!!!!! I am so disappointed. I know they are a little more expensive than most diners, but i dont mind paying for good food and good service. Our waitress was great, if it werent for her I probably would have walked out.
