At at the busiest time of the day on a tue, 7:00 pm. Fantastic location close to SFO airport hotels and over looking the bay. It was just me so sat in the bar lounge, a high table all to my self. Quick address from the bartender and I was able to place both my drink and food order after he answered a few of my questions. I ordered an arnie palmer, bowl of french onion soup, and teriyaki chicken with white rice. First let me sumerize so u dont have to read the whole thing, i ate it, all of it because i was hungry. BUT this is not a first date place because though the atmosphere is good the food is soso. The food is what made it 3 stars. The arnie palmer, which is lemonade and ice tea mixed, was ok but really how can you screw that up. The chicken teriyaki tasted like it was reheated. I say this because it comes with that fried crust of corn starch coating which i like, youd know it if you saw it, then it was reheated in a fry pan with some 1/2&1/2 bottled mix of teriyaki and sechwan sauce. Toss in some junk ends of broccoli and over cooked onion and pepper, plate it up with a large portion of white rice and WALLA! Wait where was the French onion soup? Oops i think is was not ordered but didnt find out for sure. Anyway it came after i asked about it and it showed up as i finnished my teriyaki chicken. So the soup bowl was only the size of a cup but is was hot and tasty, id order it again but would wish there was more. So many places around here to eat it will be a long time before I return.

Wow! This place was a serious let down. I hadnt been to an Elephant Bar in years. We were happy to be here because in the past, weve always had great experiences. First of all, it was freezing in there and the smell of alcohol was making me nauseous. It took a while for our order to arrive and our food was not hot. It had been sitting under the lamps. My daughter ordered soup and salad and her meal was the last to arrive and the soup wasnt hot. Weird?! I ordered Parmesan Chicken with linguini and shrimp in a marinara sauce. The chicken was horrible! Way too much salt. The garlic bread was just as salty and barely warm. The only good thing was the pasta. The waitress asked if we were enjoying our meals, I told her no. The only thing good was my pasta. The manager comes over and offers to give me something else, but I was tired and just wanted to leave. So I ate the pasta only. Left the stale salty bread and shoe leather, aka chicken breast, on the plate. The manager comped my meal, but charged me $9.99 for shrimp pasta. The nerve of her. Who does that!?!?!? I was too tired from being in a car for 8 hours to wrangle with her. I have never had any restaurant do that. If youre going to comp me for an ill tasting meal, just do it. Dont nickle and dime me. The waitress was embarrassed and apologetic. I assured her that her managers poor customer service was not a reflection on her. She was tipped more than the minimum. If given the option, I suggest that you go somewhere else.

I have eaten at the Elephant Bar several times. My family likes the menu options and the environment. Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. The wait looked awful, but ended up being less than 10 minutes, and we were taken to a table right at the main windows facing the bay, and the view of air traffic in and out of SFO. No surprises on the menu, and food quality was its typical ok to good. Disappointment this time, unlike past visits was the service. Our waiter was obviously new, not only to the restaurant but what seemed to be the entire job of being a server / waiter / assistant in dealing with that restaurant. Very nice fellow, but constantly ran into issues etc..... Wasnt a disaster....but when combined with what I considered extra LOUD ambiance this visit, and the food.....and then finally getting a bill, that was both ours, and at least one other table mixed into one "very large" bill.....it was a pain. When I explained how the bill was wrong ( 4x our stuff ), he was puzzled....took him a few moments to agree with me that we didnt order 9 entrees for 3 people ( 2 being young girls ). Ok....he tried hard, was a nice guy.....and good help is hard to find, and then get trained before the quit. Maybe next time....

Everyone knows that the problem with online reviews is that people only comment when they are ecstatic or royally pissed. Hate to fit the stereotype, but guess which I am? This is a review of the bar service, not the restaurant. I walked into a loud, busy bar. All the bartenders and servers were really hustling. But where is the excuse in that? I sat at the bar for 10-15 minutes waiting for someone to talk to me. And it never changed. I finally got a drink order in, and she never came back for the food order. After my wine glass was empty for a while she appeared, and I hurriedly made sure I got my food order in before she got away. Dinner came and was fairly OK bar food. No complaints at all, for the price. But then.... where did she go??? Didnt see anyone for a long, long time. Then I was sitting with an empty wine glass in front of me, with my head in my phone. The wine glass disappears, but no one asks me if I wanted another. So then its another 5 minutes before I flag someone down (not my server) to order another glass.

Used to love visiting this place while in sf. Party of three.. Told us twenty minutes and it took over an hour... Barely saw our waitress and had numerous people bringing us our food. We hadnt eaten yet that day and within an hour of leaving food poisoning had set in. I became so ill i started puking blood in large amounts... Two emergency rooms, tests, xrays, blood work, six iv bags, meds collapsing and going into shock... I had very severe food poisoning... Day 3 and ive finally stopped puking but Im incredibly weak and because i was puking blood i cant take anything for my severe headache... Probably better off hitting the grocery store and getting salad stuff.. Ill never go out to eat again... I wouldnt wish this on my worst enemy...

The food is pretty good (like all Elephant Bars) but the service is pretty lousy. As an example, the last time we went there they seated us in one of the higher booth tables (you step up to get into the booth). I have a baby and needed a high chair so I requested a regular-level table. They brought a high chair over and said shed be fine at the higher table and left. If she stretched up she could just barely see over the edge of the table. We saw another table open up and were able to move there, but why would they assume a high chair would work at our original table? Besides that, the service was really slow (we were there two hours) and they never brought us a drink menu.
