I ordered and paid for a cake to celebrate my fathers 104th birthday. Called to confirm that the cake had a layer of chocolate fudge icing. The baker, I assumed also the owner, mentioned that the sides would not be chocolate fudge icing but another type of chocolate icing. He said that this chocolate icing would not be as thick as fudge icing. Picked up the cake two days later and to my and my wifes disappointment, the "chocolate" icing was a very light and nondescript color. Not a chocolate color weve ever seen. I argued with the baker/owner stating that only he would describe this icing as "chocolate". To his credit, he offered to replace the nondescript icing with fudge icing. Uncertain how long this would take and already late for the birthday party, we left with the cake as is. Cut the cake at the party and quickly noticed that the nondescript "chocolate " icing didnt taste like chocolate either. An experienced owner/baker should be able to accurately describe a cake icing and also anticipate what consumers expect when icing is referred to as chocolate. This was the third cake we purchased at Virginia Bakery, and it will be the last. Next time we shop at Andronicos for half the price.

Great cakes and pastries for every day. I was not really impressed with them for my wedding cake it tasted good but the top layer was the wrong flavor and the decorator called the morning of the wedding to tell me the Celtic knot piping was to hard and they would not be able to do it. After a Bridezilla make it work rant they did pull something off but the quality was not what I would expect for the price. In my opinion if the piping was to hard they should have told me sometime in the 3 months before the wedding not the !morning of.

In sampling pastries in places as far away as the finest patisseries of France, I have yet to find a bakery that equals Virginia Bakery, a place I have frequented since the mid-1960s! In particular, their croissants, esp the cinnamon, are the absolute best ever. In addition, their cookies are fabulous and the Holland coffee cake and brown sugar walnut are also esp tasty. But it is the croissants that are impossible to match elsewhere. Simply out of this world!!

This place is iconic. I lived near the Virginia bakery while in college and never truly appreciated it until I started a dessert-loving family. They have a wide and unusual selection of baked goods and the custom pastries they make have always been timely and delicious. They are pricey, but worth what I consider to be a legitimate institution.

My family has been going to Virginia Bakery for years...maybe over a decade. We generally order birthday cakes here because they are light and airy - not dense and heavy. Delicious cake plus they also have pastries too! Cookies arent as good as everything else, but they do make decorative and festive themed cookies.

Sadly, I was not impressed. I love any and all desserts, but this place is really just TOO sweet. If that is what you desire, this is your place. But, there are so many better options that there is no need to come here....

Love picking up treats for friends birthdays here (cakes, cookies, cupcakes, etc.). Friendly Neighborhood bakery. And it always smells delicious in the early mornings as I ride by on my bike on my way to Tilden : )

They make great cakes and pastries. This is always my first stop when Im hosting a morning meeting. Stock up on Danish etc. Everybody loves stuff from Virginia Bakery. They have gluten free options too.

We ordered hot chocolate and two pastries. The hot chocolate was just cocooa mix in hot water (rather than real chocolate with milk; the pastries were at least a day old, soggy, and tasteless.

The first impressions on this bakery were good but the serveice was terible.They rushed you to order and never gave you the slightest smile.i do not recemend this bakery to anyone !
